Cave Refuge-Chapter 158 - 157: Return Home_1
By the time Robinson William finished his cigarette, he took his team and Dong Tianyu directly into the underground Refuge Center of the West City District Headquarters.
Registering was simply impossible. Robinson didn’t even show any credentials, he simply used facial recognition to gain entrance into the underground Refuge Center. As for this behavior, the other survivors were already used to it.
Robinson casually assigned a team member to report on the mission, then led Dong Tianyu through a specific corridor into the Refuge Center beneath the office building.
Only after they arrived at this shelter did Robinson dismiss the team.
Just as Dong Tianyu had suggested previously, most survivors here were members and relatives of the special combat team. This place was not connected to the subway network.
If one wanted to leave this Refuge Center, besides leaving through the entrance leading to the surface, they would have to go through the West City District Command Post if they wanted to leave underground.
There was also another underground passage leading to the War Reserve Warehouse. Under Robinson’s guidance, Dong Tianyu, too, entered the War Reserve Warehouse without registering.
It was unclear whether Robinson knew that Li Minghao was tracking Dong Tianyu, but this approach of entering through facial recognition maximally hid Dong Tianyu’s whereabouts.
Li Minghao, who was still busy in the West City District Command Post, had no idea that Dong Tianyu had already easily entered the War Reserve Warehouse.
After arriving there, Robinson didn’t say much more. He simply patted Dong Tianyu on the shoulder and then smoothly turned to leave.
Watching Robinson leaving, Dong Tianyu didn’t overthink and went directly to his parents’ tent.
"I’m back!"
Dong Tianyu wanted to surprise his parents by opening the tent, but when he opened it, he found that no one was inside.
Dong Tianyu was not surprised by this situation. Whenever his parents made new friends while they were living in the office building, they were rarely home during the day.
Dong Tianyu was pretty glad about this situation. After all, he did not forcibly bring his parents to his own Refuge Center because he was afraid they would feel too lonely over there. Now that his parents each have their own social circles, Dong Tianyu is truly happy.
Upon opening a couple of boxes in the corner of the tent, he found that a considerable amount of the supplies he had left behind had been used up by his parents. Dong Tianyu didn’t bother to check how much was missing. He randomly selected some items from the ’Shadow Space’, piling them into the boxes until they were full.
Unlike in the office building where they had a room to store supplies, now, the only places to store things in the tent were two boxes that were like refrigerators.
Strange enough, just as Dong Tianyu covered the boxes, the curtain of the tent was opened from the outside, and a middle-aged man walked in. Seeing Dong Tianyu’s movements, his face immediately filled with vigilance, and he reprimanded loudly, "Who are you, and why are you in this tent?"
Hearing the man’s reprimand, Dong Tianyu didn’t react angrily. "I am Dong Tianyu. I came to visit my parents this time. When I came back, Mom and Dad were not at home."
After hearing Dong Tianyu say this, the man merely scrutinized Dong Tianyu from head to toe and didn’t ask anything further. As he was about to leave, he suddenly heard Dong Tianyu say:
"Who are you, and why did you come to my parents’ tent when they are not here?"
Upon hearing Dong Tianyu’s counter questioning, the man didn’t speak. He simply stopped in his tracks and turned to look at Dong Tianyu in stupor.
Dong Tianyu didn’t feel frightened by the man’s gaze. Instead, he met the man’s eyes as well.
At that moment, neither of them moved, facing off like two statues.
After some time, Mr. Thompson opened the curtain of the tent and walked in. As soon as he stepped into the tent, he saw two people standing there like idiots, not moving an inch.
When Mr. Thompson saw their expressions, he became even more playful and chuckled, "What’s the matter? Did you two take a fancy to each other?"
It was strange. Ever since the doomsday event, after Mr. Thompson was certain that Dong Tianyu could stand on his own, perhaps because he could lay down his responsibilities, his mentality became increasingly youthful, and his physical health improved as well.
Hearing Mr. Thompson’s words, the expressions on their faces instantly revealed their disgust. They then simultaneously turned to look at Mr. Thompson. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"Son, this is your Uncle Yan, hurry up and greet him."
"Old Yan, this is my son, handsome, right?"
Upon hearing Mr. Thompson’s introduction, the two awkwardly got to know each other. Dong Tianyu didn’t know why, but when he saw the man for the first time, he felt that the man was not easy to get along with, and his first impression was terrible.
"Old Thompson, I’ve got something to take care of. I will take my leave now." Yan Qi also didn’t have a good impression of Dong Tianyu. Upon entrance, he saw Dong Tianyu rummaging through the boxes, and when he saw the big bag that Dong Tianyu brought, he assumed that Dong Tianyu was here to ask his parents for supplies.
Even though Yan Qi disapproved of this behavior, after all they’re father and son and it would be wrong for him to say much. So, he decided that it was better to avoid than to trouble himself, and he left.
Seeing Yan Qi turn to leave, Mr. Thompson was about to call him back, but then heard Dong Tianyu ask, "Dad, is he a new friend you made? What does he do?"
"He’s just a friend I’ve recently made while playing cards. He’s already retired. I heard his son is the second in command of a department in the Headquarters."
"Just met him? Then why did he come in directly without calling out, without asking if anyone was in the tent?."
Hearing Dong Tianyu’s question, Mr. Thompson explained with a smile, "I just asked him to come in and sit while waiting for me. I was busy sorting out some things out there, so I asked him to come in first."
Dong Tianyu did not delve deeper into what Mr. Thompson was busy with, nor ask why he let the man enter his home alone.
They were all adults, and Dong Tianyu understood that while he was doing this for Dong’s good, the more detailed his questions, the more it seemed like he was interrogating him. So, Dong Tianyu simply followed up with a statement indicating his understanding.
"How have you been doing here recently, dad? Has anything happened?"
Dong Tianyu knew that Li Minghao would not jeopardize his own parents, but he still wanted to ask and make sure.
Hearing Dong Tianyu’s question, Mr. Thompson paused slightly, "What’s going on? Did something happen?"
Hearing Mr. Thompson say this, Dong Tianyu realized that the senior group had kept quiet about Li Minghao tailing him and did not inform Mr. Thompson.
From this point of view, it seemed that Mr. Thompson’s relationship with the senior group was not yet stable.
Since they hadn’t told him, it meant that the matter had not escalated. So, Dong Tianyu didn’t want to worry his father. "No, nothing happened. I just haven’t come here for a long time. I just wanted to ask if you and mom are accustomed to life here?"
Hearing Dong Tianyu’s words, Mr. Thompson didn’t think too much about it and simply recalled their life in recent times.
