Chapter 1277: Chapter 628 Opinions on the Popularization of Writing_2

Boss Yan really shot himself in the foot with his own antics, all because he was addicted to playacting and at the end of the day, still wanted to score some perks!

In reality, the girl wouldn’t let him stay for even a single day. With the test equipment loaded in the vehicle, he tossed it to the side of the road like it was junk. A myriad of issues waited at the farm, and the county office awaited his response. Yet, here he was, punctually dropping off and picking up his wife from school every day, and obsessing over what meals to prepare to please her. Did he even look like the owner of a business anymore?

Still, he procrastinated until the middle of the night before reluctantly crawling out of bed. This time, he had an excuse—large trucks weren’t allowed in the city during the day. The girl gave him face by not exposing that with his permit, he could indeed drive the vehicle out during daylight, indulging him to cling to the bed for half the night longer.

Leaving the warmth of a bed shared with his wife in the wee hours of the night definitely left Boss Yan feeling somewhat out of sorts.

So, once he drove out of the city and reached a deserted area, he pulled a vanishing act with both man and vehicle. Then he strolled into the laboratory.

The sound of the vehicle entering the quiet farm traveled far and quickly Number One came looking for him, trailing Number Two.

Having recently received a "reward" from Boss Yan, Number One was more deferential than ever. He followed Yan Fei silently until after Yan had finished reviewing the documents in his hand, and then timidly asked, "Boss, do you have any requirements for the lab?"

Yan Fei casually tossed aside what he was holding, clearly annoyed, "What is this research about? Who told them to study dinosaurs? Are they looking for trouble? Tell them to research cows, start from scratch... forget it, just get the person in charge of the laboratory for me!"

Number One felt out of his depth with this issue. His level of education wasn’t high enough to understand the experimental records written in Japanese characters by the Japanese researchers, let alone if they were written in Chinese.

While Number One ran off to fetch someone, Yan Fei picked up the recent research materials of the lab and began to leaf through them. Then he realized that he couldn’t understand much of it—although he barely recognized that the researchers were comparing the genetics of dinosaurs with cows, hares, and wild chickens, and that was about all he could make out.

He asked Number Two, who was somewhat vacantly hanging around, "Where did these Pterosaurs they’re researching come from?"

Number Two suddenly snapped out of his daze and hastily nodded while bowing, "Well, two groups of Pterosaurs were fighting, and one fled over here, so we shot it down with a crossbow."

What you’re saying... well, that’s certainly succinct.

But Yan Fei knew that Number Two was more brawn than brains and not worth arguing with. He had to assume that the Pterosaur running in their direction was being chased and to avoid or scare the cows below, they shot it down.

"Among those newcomers, is there anyone still causing trouble?"

"No, Boss, no one wants to feed those large dragons. Besides, we now have weapons, so we’re not worried about them causing trouble."

"Keep the weapons secure and out of their reach," instructed Yan Fei. "Also, keep an eye on those chickens and rabbits we’re raising, don’t let them escape."

After a brief chat, Number One brought an elderly man over. The old man approached respectfully, speaking in a Sancha River accent that wasn’t quite authentic, "Boss, do you need something?"

"What’s with the lab researching dinosaurs? Didn’t I tell you to research cows?" inquired Yan Fei.

"Sorry, Boss, we shouldn’t have made our own decisions. Please, punish us as you see fit!" The old man straightened up and hung his head low, waiting for Yan to scold him.

Yan Fei waved his hand dismissively, "No need to be so formal, just give me the reasons. I’m not forbidding you from exploring other topics, it’s that I currently need some foundational stuff. If there’s a good reason for it, I might let you continue the research side by side."

Anyway, the personnel here are numerous, and there are plenty of experimental devices and instruments. Boss Yan is quite generous, as long as the tasks he assigns are done well, he doesn’t care what else they do.

"Thank you for your mercy, boss," said the old man, who had been bracing for a scolding, with a look of delighted surprise. "It’s like this: we’ve found that the cattle here are in unusually good health; it’s even difficult to find any sick cattle to use as samples. And after comparing with the samples from our previous research, we’ve found that the cattle here, especially the ones that are younger in months, have a level of health I’ve never seen before in my life..."

That’s obvious, the adult cattle still come from the farms, but the younger ones were mostly born here. Could it be the same?

"You don’t need to go into detail," Yan Fei interrupted the old man’s attempt to begin a lengthy discourse. "I don’t understand now, but when I have time, you can explain it to me slowly. Get all the unpublished results that you have researched in the lab organized. Study some of the fundamental things related to Wagyu cattle, not based on the environment here, but based on the conditions of human society. Do you understand?"

"Understood!" the old man nodded eagerly.

"Alright, go and rest. There’s nothing else you need to worry about," Yan Fei dismissed him with a wave of his hand. "Remember, come up with some minor achievements as soon as possible, nothing too profound, just like some common disease prevention and treatment, how to fatten cattle, and such. It’s enough if they can be published in China’s local journals. Also, some experiences and lessons from the farms in Japan, just write out some of those..."

"Got it! I know what I need to do, boss," the old man answered and left, still puzzled as he walked. With good research results at hand, why focus on the basic? According to the boss’s words, those wouldn’t be considered research results, only experiences. And there’s no need for research; anyone can easily write a few articles on farm experiences!

Yan Fei also felt rather helpless. His laboratory was just established, and being able to publish something in the livestock journals of Wancheng City, or at the provincial level was good enough. If he suddenly came out with something that could be published in national journals—serious research findings—he, let alone others, wouldn’t believe that a small, newly opened rural laboratory, with just one lonely professional researcher, could produce such results!

After the old man left, Yan Fei remembered something and, holding the research materials from the table, asked, "Among these people, is there anyone who already understands our language? I mean someone who can write and speak it."

Number One, after such a long time, was familiar with these people and answered, "There are two researchers who should meet your requirements. The others are not capable; some are still not speaking fluently!"

"That’ll do. Later, have those two act as teachers and get everyone learning our script. What’s the point of writing in that twisted and crooked Barbarian script on my turf? It’s proper to spread the use of our square characters quickly," Yan Fei instructed, and after a brief thought, continued.

"As for those who are slow learners, even though these people are all considered research talents, as long as Japan isn’t short of them, we won’t be either. You don’t have to be too nice to them; if they really can’t learn, or don’t want to, give them a knife and let them go make their own way!"

Number One nodded, understanding Yan Fei’s instructions, "I got it, boss."

Yan Fei gave a hearty laugh, "Good, as long as you remember that these people are less important to us than a cow, a chicken, or a rabbit. Just keep that in mind, and you’ll know how to treat them in the future."

Number Two, hiding behind Number One, muttered quietly, "You might as well just say they’re not even human!"

Yan Fei couldn’t be bothered to argue with such quibbles. In truth, if everyone was like Number Two, he would be more at ease—who wouldn’t appreciate laborers who, aside from eating, sleeping, and working, didn’t desire anything else? What excellent workhorses!

After staying in the laboratory for a while and taking some documents that he thought he might barely understand, he then went to the entrance of the cave on Vegetable Garden Island and lay down to read.

As dawn was breaking, he drove back to Sancha River Village, and from afar, he could see Liu JinXue standing in the mist-covered roadside, looking eagerly in his direction.

It wasn’t necessary to ask; it was clear that Liu JinXue wasn’t there to welcome Boss Yan but rather to receive the experimental instruments.
