Carlotta's Daily Report-Chapter 107: Tree Demons
We’re flying!
Carlotta and Amelia held hands, quickly ascending into the air with the help of an alchemical formation, drifting toward the location of the Sky Island.
The morning sun was exceptionally radiant, painting the sky with warm hues. The warm breeze blew against them, causing their long hair and clothes to flutter continuously.
Many people were floating towards the Sky Island, a rare and wondrous sight. Those who hadn’t yet entered the alchemical formation couldn’t help but take out their camera cards to capture this moment, which was destined to be a memorable photograph.
The Sky Island grew closer and larger in Carlotta’s eyes, exuding a sense of ancient mystery as the wind carried its secrets toward them.
Before long, Carlotta and Amelia arrived at the massive platform at the entrance of the Sky Island.
The platform was vast, with many people gathered there. Directly ahead stood a gigantic gate, and crossing it would grant them true entry into the Sky Island.
The reason most people hadn’t clicked immediately was that the platform itself held some surprises.
On both sides of the platform, many people had set up lists of items they were willing to purchase at high prices, items that could be brought out from the Sky Island.
Among them were officials from the Kingdom of Brandon and representatives from various merchant guilds. These people weren’t entering the Sky Island themselves but were waiting for those who had explored it to return.
The newcomers to the island couldn’t help but discuss the scene, their expressions filled with excitement.
"The prices here are quite high. If we can get some materials to sell to them, we’ll never have to worry about food or clothing again."
"But these materials are also very rare, aren’t they? They’re not easy to obtain."
"They might be hard to find elsewhere, but not necessarily in the Sky Island. The Sky Island is filled with rare materials, some of which don’t even exist in the outside world. The chances of finding them aren’t that low."
"Let’s hurry in."
Many people exchange excited words, eager to scour the Sky Island for treasures.
There were countless legends about the Sky Island. It wasn’t uncommon for people to bring out items that could change their fates. But beyond that, there were also a variety of rare materials that could bring great wealth.
Listening to the discussions around her, Carlotta’s heart was also stirred.
She thought of many precious materials, many of which were superior replacements for those found in the outside world.
For example, the carriage cards require a material called Wind Speed Stone to ensure the carriage’s speed. In the Sky Island, however, there was a material called Wind God Stone that could replace it. Carriage cards made with Wind God Stone would possess astonishing speed, enough to scare anyone who saw them.
There were many similar materials.
"Let’s go."
Carlotta took Amelia’s hand and approached the massive gate.
Others were also moving forward. A pair of brothers even hugged each other tightly in front of the gate.
The younger brother couldn’t help but complain, "Do we have to hug so tightly? It feels weird. Even if it’s to avoid being separated during the teleportation, we don’t need to hug this tightly, do we?"
The older brother scolded, "What do you know? The teleportation force of the Sky Island is said to be much stronger than other teleportation methods. If we don’t hug tightly, we might still get separated."
The younger brother had no choice but to let his older brother hold him tightly as they entered the gate and disappeared.
Others did the same, holding onto their partners tightly.
Seeing this, Carlotta couldn’t help but ask Amelia, "If we’re just holding hands, might we get separated?"
"Then...should we hug too?"
Amelia hesitated.
"I guess we have to."
Carlotta smiled slightly and pulled Amelia into her arms.
It was a feeling that was hard to describe. The girl in her arms was soft and carried a pleasant scent. Her smooth hair gently brushed against Carlotta’s face, causing a slight tickling sensation.
As Carlotta held Amelia, her heart couldn’t help but flutter, and she felt her body temperature rising.
Whether it was her imagination or not, Carlotta noticed that Amelia’s cheeks seemed to take on a faint blush.
"Let’s go quickly."
Amelia lowered her head and whispered.
Carlotta nodded, and the two of them, still embracing, stepped through the gate.
In the next moment, a strong sense of dizziness overwhelmed them. Carlotta felt her consciousness grow hazy, her mind blank.
This state lasted for an unknown amount of time. When Carlotta regained her senses, she found herself in a dense forest, surrounded by the sound of mountain winds and rustling leaves.
"We’re in."
Carlotta said, then reluctantly let Amelia go.
She released Amelia and scanned the surroundings. The trees here were extremely thick, with many as wide as barrels and some so large that it would take several people to encircle them.
She chose a sturdy tree and climbed up like an agile monkey, quickly reaching the canopy and looking around.
At a glance, Carlotta couldn’t help but frowned.
Was this really a floating island?
As far as she could see, there was no end in sight, only mountains, rivers, and countless trees. It felt more like they had entered another world.
Apart from the natural scenery, there were also magical creatures. From a distance, she could see many exotic creatures roaming about. Many of these creatures didn’t exist in the outside world, some roared on cliffs, some bathed under waterfalls, and others fought in the forest, causing large swathes of trees to collapse.
This place seemed like a wild, primitive world.
Carlotta retracted her gaze and descended, informing Amelia of what she had seen.
Amelia pondered, "From what I’ve heard, those who have entered the Sky Island before also never saw its boundaries. The reality here is completely different from how it appears from the outside."
"So, we might not be above Pine Town anymore? Or even above the Kingdom of Brandon?"
Carlotta was startled.
This realization was surprising. Was the Sky Island just a means of teleportation?
Amelia said, "There’s no need to worry about that. Some things don’t need to be explored. We just need to focus on collecting the treasures and materials we find here. When the time comes, we’ll naturally leave."
Leaving the Sky Island was simple. When the Sky Island was about to disappear, all those who were still alive inside would be "ejected."
Carlotta nodded and gestured in a direction. "There’s a group of people over there, heading this way. They must have just been teleported in like us, and they happen to be nearby."
Before long, a group of people appeared in front of Carlotta and Amelia.
"There are indeed people here," said a woman dressed as an adventurer as she and her companions approached.
She told her companions, "My Wave Magic can detect people around us. I’m certain there are people here. On Sky Island, if we encounter any dangerous monsters, I can also detect them immediately. You must protect me."
The group consisted of more than a dozen people.
One of the men, with a smile, approached Carlotta and Amelia and invited them to explore together.
"On Sky Island, although there are many opportunities to change one’s fate, there are also many dangers. Many explorers have been buried here. Why don’t we explore together? That way, we can share the pressure and enhance our self-protection abilities."
The man introduced himself as Ves Morrison, the leader of a group called the Thorn Adventure Team.
However, not everyone present belonged to the Thorn Adventure Team; only three of them were members.
The rest, including the woman who practiced Wave Magic, were people they had met by chance and decided to explore with.
Carlotta asked, "Why are there so few people from your Thorn Adventure Team? Where are the others?"
Ves sighed, "We underestimated the intensity of the teleportation on Sky Island. We didn’t hold on to each other tightly enough, so we got separated. We don’t know when we’ll be able to regroup."
The Sky Island was too vast. Once separated, it was truly difficult to see each other again.
He again invited Carlotta and Amelia to join and briefly introduced their group’s strength.
When mentioning himself, he smiled and said he was an early Listener.
In fact, he wasn’t the only Listener in the group. There was also a taciturn man dressed in black, who was not good at communicating with others. He was also a Listener, named Fidelac.
The rest were apprentices.
"Forget it, there’s no need to act together," Carlotta refused.
She felt that these people might not be reliable. They didn’t even know her and Amelia’s ranks, yet they wanted to explore together. Weren’t they afraid that the two of them might be too weak and drag them down?
Obviously, no matter who they met, the other party would invite them to join, which didn’t seem normal.
Hearing Carlotta’s refusal, the woman who practiced Wave Magic seemed surprised and asked, "Why not join us? Isn’t it better to look out for each other?"
Carlotta didn’t know if this woman was naive or what. The Sky Island was filled with countless treasures. Was it really a good thing for a group of unfamiliar people to act together? When they saw something valuable, the issue of ownership would definitely cause a conflict.
"We’re only second-tier apprentices. We’ll inevitably hold you back. Let’s just forget it," Carlotta made an excuse to refuse.
Hearing this, Ves and the others couldn’t help but look a bit subtle.
At that moment, the woman who practiced Wave Magic, Mia Courtney, seemed to sense something and said, "There are more people around, approaching. Quite a lot of them."
"How many?" Ves asked.
"About a few hundred," Mia replied.
Hearing this, everyone was stunned, and their expressions changed.
Someone couldn’t help but ask, "Are you sure they’re people?"
Mia didn’t need to confirm again.
Because the howling wind had already spread from all directions, and faint figures appeared in the dense forest, unknowingly surrounding them.
Carlotta cursed her bad luck. She had good eyesight and saw some trees moving in the distance, realizing that the area was already surrounded.
"Tree Demons," the taciturn Listener spoke, looking around with a grave expression.
Tree Demons were a relatively common type of monster, and there were many of them outside. However, their ranks were generally low, and it was rare to see Tree Demons above the fourth-tier apprentice rank.
But on Sky Island, the situation was different.
Tree Demons appeared in large numbers all around, continuously approaching. Everyone could see many Tree Demons above the fifth tier, and even seventh and eighth-tier ones existed.
"There are Listener-level Tree Demons," Ves pointed out, his expression particularly grave.
There was more than one Tree Demon equivalent to a Listener.
The numerous Tree Demons silently closed in, the dangerous aura spreading, causing many to panic.
Sky Island had always been a place of opportunity and danger, but many people tended to focus too much on the rewards and overlook the extreme dangers.
"We can’t let them surround us. We must break out quickly, or it will be very dangerous," Ves shouted, directing his group.
Then he felt a blur before his eyes and saw Carlotta and Amelia breaking out in one direction.
The two of them moved agilely, quickly darting around a few trees, easily dodging attacks and fleeing into the distance.
"Second-tier apprentices running so fast?" Mia said in surprise.
Ves was also stunned. You call these second-tier apprentices? They’re clearly eighth and ninth-tier apprentices!
But Ves couldn’t focus on that anymore, as the numerous Tree Demons had already rushed over and launched an attack.
The Tree Demons looked like trees, but on their trunks, there were human faces, grim and terrifying. Their branches lashed out like whips.
A chaotic battle erupted.
Carlotta didn’t expect that she and Amelia would encounter so many Tree Demons just after entering Sky Island. The number of Tree Demons around was countless, and their ranks were very high. If they were ordinary adventurers, they could bid farewell to this world as soon as they entered Sky Island.
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
The Tree Demons swung their branches, turning them into extremely lethal whips that lashed out. With a crack, the surrounding ordinary trees were snapped in half, which was terrifying.
Carlotta used her Elven Butterfly Dance, fluttering through the dense forest to dodge these attacks.
But soon, her expression darkened as an exceptionally large Tree Demon appeared before her.
This Tree Demon was massive, with lush branches and leaves, like an ancient tree spanning a thousand years. Its branches waved like tentacles, bringing a great sense of oppression. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
This was a Listener-level Tree Demon.
On the trunk, the Tree Demon’s face appeared, emitting a piercing, eerie laugh that made Carlotta frown.
"Be careful, it’s a mental attack. Focus and resist," Amelia reminded.
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
While launching the mental attack, the Tree Demon also swung its whip fiercely, casting a large shadow over Carlotta’s head.
