Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Does This Count as Dating?

It took her a long, long time to clean up and get ready to face him.

But outside, it was empty; the man’s figure was nowhere to be seen. The white curtains silently swayed, and the single sofa still bore traces of water, messy, unrestored to its original state.

It was as if a lingering scene was playing out in front of her eyes, frame by frame, flickering past.

Despite having mentally prepared herself, she still couldn’t face him calmly.

But he was not there.

Her heart felt empty for a moment, a bit desolate.

That feeling was not pleasant.

She picked up her phone, and just as she opened the door, she encountered a waiter standing at the entrance.

"Miss, Mr. Lowell is next door, he asks you to wait for him for a while."

Claire Prescott slowly closed the door, hesitating whether to leave without saying goodbye, when she heard the sound of a lock turning from the room next door.

Soon after, she saw the man appear before her, having changed into clean, crisp clothes.

When their eyes met, she still couldn’t help but want to avoid him.

"Are you hungry?" Keane Lowell looked at her with deep eyes, noticing her unease.

Claire Prescott felt a whirl of emotions and vaguely responded, "Not really."

Keane approached her, gradually pulling her into his embrace.

A fresh, cool scent lingered at the tip of her nose, his body felt cool, devoid of any desire, only a gentle strength remained.

His breath had a soothing quality to it, his embrace could instantly increase her heart rate and then effortlessly smooth her rapid heartbeat.

"I was impulsive just now, let’s take it slow from now on."

The deep, gentle voice fell from above her head, and as if bewitched, she wrapped her arms around his waist.

In that tender moment, Claire looked up at him, asking clearly, "Does this mean we are in love?"

The man’s noble face broke into a faint smile.

He said, "How could we not be?"

The air around seemed dipped in honey, thick, mixed with threads of sweetness, and it felt as if bubbles were rising, indescribably wonderful.

But just then, the ringing of a phone shattered the moment.

Claire released him and indicated, "I need to take a call."

...

The call was from her grandfather, urging her to come back for dinner.

The evening light cast on people, suddenly bringing to mind her father’s words of unsuitability, her mood inevitably fell, like waking from a dream, forced to face some things.

Keane personally drove her back home.

The sunset gradually dimmed and dulled on the car roof, overshadowed by the evening gloom.

Claire glanced at the person beside her.

The shadows dissolved into his dark shirt, his profile was strikingly noble, his aura as pure as a cedar in the moonlight, a faint glow enveloped him, making his presence distinctly felt.

"When will you return to Kystral?" she asked.

"In two or three days," Keane responded, "Do you want to go back?"

She nodded.

She was still contemplating whether to sneak back home or to argue and persuade her family, but regardless of her actions, conflicts and disputes seemed inevitable, and that was what she feared most.

Moreover, her family disapproved of her being with Keane.

Keane glanced at her, his voice still warm and deep, "Some things have to be handled, at most three days, and then I’ll take you back."

Claire hesitated but eventually relented, "It’s fine, I’ll go back by myself."

...

More than half an hour later, the car steadily stopped at the entrance of the Prescott Family’s old residence.

Claire unbuckled her seatbelt and paused before reaching for the car door button, turning back to look at him.

"President Lowell." She called softly, slowly meeting his gaze, word by word, "I want to kiss you."

With those words, there was a second of silence.

Keane smiled slightly, "How do you want to kiss, sit on my lap?"

Claire didn’t respond, she leaned over the center console and quickly, lightly kissed his lips, Keane barely had time to taste her before she returned to her seat.

Yet, this kind of fleeting kiss was most unbearably enticing.

But the young girl looked completely satisfied, her eyes filled with starlit joy.

"In the future, if you want to kiss, there’s no need to tell me in advance," he said.

Claire pressed her lips together, telling him, "Then I’ll go now, go home and rest early."

"Mm."

With the car door closing, it felt as if something was missing.

He lifted his eyes to look outside the window.

The young girl was standing by the lamppost, waiting for him to leave.

The pure white dress emitted a hazy light, her delicate facial features exuded a faint aura of enchantment with her smile, easily drawing people in.

In the end, he restrained his desire for her, turned the car around, and left.

After he left, Claire also entered the villa, crossed the courtyard, and went straight to the living room.

At this moment, the maid had just served the last dish, and the two elders seemed to have just sat at the dining table not long ago. Seeing her return, they called her over to eat.

There were only three of them, but her grandfather’s expression was a bit stern, giving her a sense of foreboding.

The elderly woman put some food into her bowl, her voice kind, asking, "Where did you go to play today?"

"Went skiing."

"Alone? Or with friends?"

"With friends." Claire didn’t dare mention Keane Lowell’s name.

Fortunately, they didn’t probe further.

Her grandfather then bluntly introduced the topic, "I heard from your brother that you plan to return to Kystral tomorrow? It’s been a while since you’ve come back, why not stay a few more days with us?"

Claire replied, "There are quite a few patients at the clinic looking for me, messages are piling up like mountains, all asking when I’ll return to see patients."

Her grandfather’s brow furrowed deeply. Even though he understood some things, when it came to his own granddaughter, he couldn’t help but want to be a little kinder and didn’t want to pressure her.

"If you want to practice medicine, why not let your brother set up a family clinic here in Valoria, under our care, we’d be at ease. Kystral is so far, it’s hard for us to see our granddaughter."

This move instantly cut off her path back to Kystral.

Not stopping her from practicing medicine, yet also severing her connection with Keane, truly killing two birds with one stone.

When hard measures don’t work, try soft ones.

He knew very well that dealing with his granddaughter required this approach.

"Grandfather, I’m not yet capable of practicing independently, with Grandpa’s presence I feel more assured, and there are medical issues that I need to discuss and review with him every week, without Grandpa, the clinic can’t run, I also have a responsibility to the patients."

These words put them in an immediate stalemate, and her grandfather’s face grew grim, continuously falling.

As the atmosphere reached a freezing point, Claire hurriedly comforted, "Grandfather, I know you don’t want me to leave, I am your own granddaughter, but I am also myself, I have grown up and can take good care of myself, you don’t have to worry about me."

Her grandfather snorted, his aged voice filled with endless helplessness, "Grown up, wings have hardened too."
