Capturing the Young Doctor's Heart: Mr. Big Shot Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 27: He’s Not Right for You
In the alleyway, high walls stretched endlessly, the evening breeze felt chilly as it pierced through.
Claire Prescott walked disconsolately along the cobblestone path.
As she approached Sinclair Apothecary, she suddenly noticed a familiar car parked in front of her house.
Beijing A license plate.
The man leaned against the car, not doing anything, just patiently waiting.
As he turned his eyes, their gazes met naturally.
Claire felt her heart tremble slightly.
She walked over to him casually and took the initiative to ask, "Are you waiting for me?"
Keane Lowell nodded, quietly watching her.
His brows were steeped in profound depth.
"I... I wasn’t feeling well in the banquet hall just now, don’t take it to heart."
"I know."
His voice was soft and gentle, as if comforting her.
Claire didn’t know what to say for a moment, to break this inexplicable awkwardness.
"I..."
"Claire."
Both spoke at the same time.
Every time he called "Claire," it carried a lingering, intimate meaning within it.
Perhaps it was due to his gentle tone that created this illusion.
He followed up by saying, "Would holding your hand bother you?"
Claire paused, looking at him blankly, after a while, she replied, "No."
"How about a hug?"
"No... it wouldn’t."
Not understanding why he suddenly asked this.
Out of nowhere, she met the man’s deep, burning eyes.
He suddenly took a step forward, closing the distance between them, close enough that she instinctively wanted to step back.
Without any movement, her lower back was pressed by his arm.
The man slightly bent down, hugging her neck.
His body temperature and the fresh scent of pine on him overwhelmed her without warning, like a flood.
Claire froze, her body stiff as stone, yet her heart was beating wildly in his embrace, losing all sense of order.
He said, "Then let’s hug for a while."
His broad and sturdy chest enveloped her tightly, yet not too forcefully, giving a sense of being cherished and protected, warm and comfortable.
She gradually relaxed, longing for his embrace to tighten a bit more.
However, as her hand just touched his waist, an ear-piercing honk startled her, causing her to withdraw her hand quickly and grip the hem of her skirt.
The intimacy between them vanished in an instant.
Both turned towards the source of the sound.
In the dim, hazy light, a man stepped out of a car, his gaze gloomy as he looked at them, his narrow eyes filled with anger.
It was her half-brother, Finn Prescott.
Claire blushed as she retreated from Keane’s embrace and said to him, "It’s already late, you should go back and rest early."
Keane dropped his gaze, the irritation in his eyes dissipating little by little.
"Good night."
He said softly, his gaze like a gentle kiss.
Claire felt a bit uneasy and casually replied, "Be careful on the road."
After he left.
The whole street was left with only the two siblings.
Finn approached her leisurely, staring at her flushed face, frowned, "He’s not suitable for you."
Claire met his gaze with shame and anger, "It’s not for you to decide if he’s suitable. I told you before, in the future, don’t meddle in my affairs."
"You’re my sister..."
Finn hadn’t finished his sentence before she turned and closed the door, isolating him outside. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
As if separating two worlds.
...
The black Maybach streaked through the night, stopping at The Cloud Brocade Hotel.
Keane stepped out of the car, still on the phone, Assistant Cheney’s voice continued, coming through the receiver.
"The Prescott Family intends to deploy the amusement park project in Kystral, seeking cooperation with The Lancaster Family. Finn is in Beijing for this matter. However, they were about to sign the contract two days ago, things were going well, then The Lancaster Family suddenly backed out, reportedly they want to arrange a marriage with The Prescott Family."
Keane entered the elevator, pressed a button, and speculated, "Ethan Lancaster wants to arrange a marriage?"
"Yes, the only suitable and single person is Ethan Lancaster. Additionally, Finn came to Beijing for another purpose, to take Miss Prescott back."
The next day.
Claire was on duty when a woman wearing sunglasses and a mask walked in, dressed in a simple casual T-shirt, her figure still could not hide her alluring and charming presence.
She sat straight on that stool and spoke plaintively, "I’m here for a check-up."
Claire immediately recognized her and followed her words, "What’s wrong?"
Zara Leighton spoke arrogantly, "Everything’s wrong, I’ve been too upset by a friend to sleep all night."
Claire remained silent, watching her without expression.
Zara pouted and said, "Anyway, I didn’t become a third party, it wasn’t me who seduced Milton Rivers last night. To be honest with you, Milton and I aren’t in a normal couple relationship, he’s my benefactor, the reason I climbed up to this position so quickly is all because of him. I’ve always been afraid to tell you because I’m afraid you’d look down on me."
After all, her pride is high, saying these words, she dared not even look at her directly, afraid to meet her eyes.
Claire furrowed her brow.
She had heard a lot of entertainment gossip from Zara before, didn’t expect she too would become part of the story.
"Willingly or forced?"
"It was voluntary, I want fame, I want to crush everyone who belittles me, so during one drinking gathering, I found a way to get involved with him." She confessed honestly.
It wasn’t voluntary, instead, she actively sought to be involved.
Zara continued, "I’ve long known that there won’t be an outcome with him, he’s already engaged now, I won’t look for him anymore, my next film will be in London, the visa is ready, soon, I will forget him. And! I haven’t used you as a tool, truly, or else may I be struck by lightning, I only wanted someone to accompany me."
She spoke earnestly with conviction.
Claire looked at her with a complex expression.
After a long silence.
She gradually grasped the situation, asked calmly, "How long is the trip?"
"Half a month, next Wednesday’s ticket."
"Then not many days left."
Zara nodded, opened the snacks she brought, placed them on her table, and coaxed, "I brought your favorite chestnut cake, I queued for three hours to buy it."
Claire looked at her quietly, didn’t say a word.
Failing to coax her, Zara felt somewhat dejected, suddenly remembered something and switched the topic to ask her, "Didn’t Liam King ask you to record a variety show last time? How’s the progress now?"
"I turned it down."
"Why?" Zara was puzzled, "That variety show is a top production, good for Sinclair Apothecary."
"Too much trouble in the entertainment industry, I’d rather avoid it if I can."
"That’s true, but it’s also a pity for the remuneration, I heard the variety show invited a top star, and their pay isn’t even as much as yours. It’s enough to make all the artists in the entertainment industry envious. But, not to brag, with your appearance and demeanor, you could easily outshine everyone in the industry."
