Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 710: One Big Family
"Stuuupid," Sirius stuck out his tongue before rising to his feet and marching straight toward the dining room, not before crashing his shoulder against Ye Hu.
"Uh," Ye Hu held his shoulder and addressed the crowd in confusion. "What’s wrong with him? Why is he picking a fight with me again?"
With a helpless sigh, He Juan shook his head and gently pulled his omega to his feet, deciding not to dwell on the matter any longer. "Come on, you should pad your stomach a bit. I assure you, Chen Youzhi is a very good cook."
When they entered the dining room, a delectable spread of piping hot dishes could be seen on the table. Meanwhile, Ye Gu and Wu Yuan diligently moved about to set up rice bowls, soup, and utensils for everyone.
All the dishes looked so tantalizing and mouth-watering that Mu Yuze couldn’t tear his eyes off, his appetite thoroughly roused. He gulped down his saliva, and when He Juan took his seat, he instinctively plopped himself down across the Alpha’s lap, having grown accustomed to this routine over the past few days.
It was only when the boisterous atmosphere receded into pindrop silence that Mu Yuze realized what he had done.
Stiffening up, he avoided everyone’s gaze and silently scooted off He Juan’s lap and occupied the seat beside He Juan, his earlobes tinged with a crimson hue. Despite attempting to maintain a poker face, he almost shriveled up and died out of sheer mortification on the inside.
For heaven’s sake, he... he must have been possessed for a split second there! How could he possibly make such a careless mistake?!
The awkward stillness shattered when Sirius made an exaggerated gagging motion, and as if a play button had been pressed, the silence exploded into an even greater uproar.
Ye Qiu covered her forehead with her palm, lamenting in mock exasperation, "I can’t watch this any longer."
Ye Hu groaned, "Spare us poor single dogs, will you?!"
Jia Molei picked up his chopsticks and began loading his plate with dishes, commenting casually, "According to research, newly bonded pair will not be able to keep their hands off each other, so you’d better be grateful they didn’t start fucking right in front of our eyes."
Ye Gu promptly covered Wu Yuan’s ears, confusing the latter. "Doctor Jia," he said with a helpless look. "There’s a minor among us here."
Everyone chimed in their thoughts, and the more they commented, the redder Mu Yuze’s face became. He was so ashamed that he felt like he could never lift his head anymore.
At that moment, He Juan suddenly interjected with a somber tone, "Stop it, everyone."
Mu Yuze’s imaginary bunny ears perked up, thinking that his Alpha had finally decided to come to his rescue. In fact, the same thought crossed everyone’s mind, that’s why they promptly sealed their mouths shut and dared not utter another word. But in the end, He Juan’s next words turned out to be:
"Don’t tease him. What should I do if my mate doesn’t want me anymore? Can you take responsibility for that?"
Mu Yuze: "..."
Everyone: "...Scram!"
Mu Yuze secretly pinched He Juan’s waist under the table, eliciting a hiss from the other. His entire face was so red that it resembled a ripe tomato, and the glare he shot He Juan was full of accusation, as if complaining, ’Why would you say that?!’
He Juan simply laughed in response. He leaned in and whispered in a voice that only both of them could hear, "What is it? You’re my lover, my other half, and my mate for life. So what’s wrong with me flaunting the fact in front of their faces?"
Mu Yuze was both furious and mortified at first, but after hearing He Juan’s words, he couldn’t help but feel a burst of sweetness in his chest. Alas, he did not want to appear so easily coaxed, so he maintained a sullen face, prompting He Juan to pick a few dishes he liked and sweet-talk him into eating them all. The Alpha was really shameless and didn’t give any face to the poor single dogs around them.
"T–Teacher He..." Wu Yuan clumsily placed a piece of deboned fish on He Juan’s plate, struggling to articulate his words. "I– It’s really good. You should try it."
After manifesting as a superior Alpha, he was in an extremely fragile mental state, which made it easy for Luo Xuan to deceive and brainwash him into thinking that the two of them were the only similar people in the world, and he had to obey the other person’s words if he wanted to have a better life. He almost became a collateral damage and a discarded weapon, but fortunately, Ye Qiu and her brothers took him away in time and taught him everything he needed to know. Right now, he could already control his pheromones, and his mental state had improved considerably.
Feeling extremely guilty for dragging He Juan into the mess, he wanted to apologize, but sadly his Teacher He, who also turned out to be the infamous XIU, had many other businesses to attend to, leaving him with no opportunity to convey his remorse. He could only resort to this clumsy gesture to express his goodwill and guilt toward He Juan.
Staring at the young man’s awkward demeanor, He Juan’s heart stirred, for he was suddenly reminded of his deceased brother. Perhaps this was one of the main reasons why he felt so compelled to help Wu Yuan despite his memory loss.
He picked up the fish with his chopsticks and brought it to his mouth, chewing it with a smile. Extending a hand across the table, he ruffled Wu Yuan’s hair, saying, "I’m so glad that you’re okay."
That one sentence was enough to show that He Juan had understood his intention.
Wu Yuan’s eyes blurred with tears, and he choked out, "T–Thank you..."
"Why are you being so sentimental at the dining table?" Ye Hu groaned loudly and dumped a lot of dishes on his plate. "Come on, eat, eat, eat!"
Chen Youzhi chimed in, "There is still plenty of rice in the kitchen. Feel free to grab seconds."
"Mr. Chen, you’re the best!!!"
Lunch proceeded in a lively and joyous manner. Whether it was Alpha, Beta, Omega, common people or mutants, all those differences ceased to exist, leaving them with a single identity – human beings. They talked about trivial matters in life, so ordinary that it was hard to believe they had come from different walks of life.
At that moment, they truly resembled one big family.
He Juan had forgotten the last time he’d shared a meal with such a large crowd, and he couldn’t help but savor the vivacity and joy radiating from the smiling faces around him. Suddenly, he sensed a tug on the hem of his shirt, and he turned to find Mu Yuze staring at him with a concerned look as if checking if he was okay. He Juan responded with a bright smile, his heart feeling warm and full.
"Oh look!" Ye Hu exclaimed in excitement. "It’s snowing! It’s snowing!"
Everyone turned toward the window, and sure enough, delicate pieces of white and ash colored snowflakes gracefully descended from the sky, blanketing the world in its soft and ivory curtain.
Staring at the overcast sky, He Juan recalled with a pang of melancholy,
Ah, it will be A–Xie’s death anniversary soon.
