Chapter 567: Not A Dream?

It’s that dream again, He Juan came to a realization the moment he found himself in a familiar setting.

While it did not torment his nights daily as his nightmares frequently did, it was still often enough that He Juan had started to decipher the pattern.

A vaguely familiar room, with a bed full of thick beddings and blankets. A lithe and slender figure was sprawled in the middle, clad in an oversized shirt with its hem raked up, revealing a sliver of flat tummy and porcelain skin. On the other hand, He Juan... he was hovering above the said figure, slipping his hand into the other person’s shirt and enjoying the feel of the silky, satiny skin against his rough palm.

"Alpha..." the faceless person breathed, and He Juan felt intense shivers running down his spine. His heart constricted so painfully that he felt the air being squeezed out of his lungs. The back of his eyes burned, yet he could not quite put a name to what he was feeling in that moment. Just when he thought that he could grasp a particular emotion, it eluded him again and again like sand slipping through his fingers.

All he knew was that he was torn between the visceral urge to wreck this person apart and the overwhelming desire to cradle them tenderly at the same time.

"Alpha..."

They called out again— what a sweet, tilting and alluring voice. He wanted to listen to them forever; he wanted to drown within every syllable that curled on their tongue. He wanted to, so much. With a shuddering breath, He Juan finally allowed himself to lean down.

And then he woke up, like he always did.

"Hiss—!" He Juan winced when a sharp pain pierced into his skull, and he took a few moments to simply breathe in and out until his blurry vision focused once more. The bedroom from his dream had faded into a hazy image, replaced by the dark wooden wallpaper of his room.

Closing his eyes, He Juan groaned and buried his face into the pillow, letting the tears clinging onto his lashes to soak into the silk fabric. "Not again..."

Why? Why would he still have a spring dream at the age of thirty three? Wasn’t it too pathetic? Even before he lost his memories, he had never experienced such indecent dreams, and worse it had not happened only once or twice!

Enduring the pounding headache, He Juan pushed himself into the sitting position, switched on the night lamp and retrieved his medicine from the drawer. He clamped the pill between his teeth and poured himself a glass of water before downing it in a few large gulps.

For a brief moment, all that was heard in the quiet room was the sound of his labored breathing, which soon calmed into a regular rhythm. Only after his headache subsided could he analyze his problems with a rational mind once more.

If the dream had only happened once, He Juan might have chalked it up to his Alpha instincts that had been suppressed for far too long. But two or three times a week? It was starting to get ridiculous.

Which led him to another unsettling possibility.

What if, instead of a mere dream... what if it was a fragment of memory belonging to the other He Juan?

If he were to think of it through an outsider’s perspective, it was normal, wasn’t it? After all, the other He Juan had no prior recollection of the life he’d lived. After reaching his thirties, he thought that it was time for him to settle down, so he went and sought—

"Ugh!" He Juan clamped his mouth tightly to suppress the bile rising in his throat.

No, he must not continue down this line of thought. He couldn’t. Just the mere idea of his own self embracing another person – another Omega who was not his mate – was more than enough to make his stomach churn. Revulsion surged up from the depths of his heart and his skin crawled as though filthy bugs had burrowed themselves into his flesh.

Impossible, He Juan desperately tried to deny that possibility as he dry-heaved. It was impossible for him to love another person aside from Mu Yuze in this world. It was impossible for him to embrace another Omega and not feel that something was amiss.

But what if? What if the other He Juan really...

He Juan instinctively grabbed his new phone on the nightstand. His finger hovered over Chen Youzhi’s number, but then it paused an inch above the screen. Did Chen Youzhi know anything about his potential... lovers? Considering how the man had not mentioned anything about that, it was more likely that he was none the wiser.

Sighing heavily, He Juan raked his fingers through his hair and tossed his phone aside. This would be so much easier if he still had his old phone with him— the one which belonged to the other He Juan. If he did, he could have gained some insight into his life through that device.

Alas, his phone was already lost in the sea during the previous incident, and the chances of finding it again was close to none.

A muted vibration brought He Juan out of his reverie, and he picked up his phone again to find a message from Han Shan.

[Sir, are you ready? I’m heading to your place right now.]

Ah, that’s right. This was the night of the special event at Phoenix Ablaze, which would only be held once every six months. He Juan found it difficult to understand why the event must kick off right at midnight, but he reckoned that it should be catered to the younger crowd’s tastes.

This event happened to coincide with He Juan’s return, and once He Juan expressed a hint of interest in attending, Han Shan grew so excited that he promised he would provide He Juan with the best entertainment.

He Juan checked the time and realized that it was a little past 10 pm, meaning he’d had less than two hours of sleep. He had tried to rest earlier and set an alarm for 11 pm to avoid oversleeping, but then he ended up being startled awake by that damned dream.

Shaking his head, He Juan sent a reply that he would get ready before rising to his feet.

Though his mood was ruined, he had made a promise with Han Shan after all, and the least he could do was to keep it. Perhaps he would really find entertainment there. It was with that thought that He Juan mustered his spirits and entered the bathroom to get ready for the night.

Meanwhile, inside the car parked a few distance away from Phoenix Ablaze.

"Are you sure that XIU will be here?"

Kang Guanyu clicked his tongue exasperatedly as he had lost count on how many times Li Zhi questioned the same thing all day. "How many times do I have to tell you, Capt? The rumors have been circulating throughout the entire city for days! If only your network is not limited only to Yuyang, you would have obtained the news too!"

His long spiel earned him a glare from Li Zhi, and Kang Guanyu cleared his throat before hastily switching the topic.

"Just look," he gestured outside the window where various expensive cars could be seen heading toward the high-end club. "Look at how many people are here. It’s just a little past ten pm and the parking lot is already full! They are all here to catch a glimpse of XIU, just like us! Especially those little Omegas, they’re so eager to see if they could—"

Kang Guanyu abruptly forced himself to stop talking and almost twisted his tongue in the process. But it was too late, for the damage had already been done.

"They could... what?" Mu Yuze, who was sitting in the back seat, asked with an expressionless face. "What do those little Omegas want to do?"
