Chapter 530: Don’t Take Him Away

Twenty minutes later, the car screeched to a halt in front of a house in the suburbs of Yuyang, and Jia Molei, who had been notified beforehand, immediately lunged for the passenger door, wrenching it open without hesitation.

"Fuck!" He couldn’t hold back a curse when he saw the harrowing state He Juan was in. "What the hell happened to you?! And this..." his voice trailed off when his gaze fell upon the person cradled tightly in He Juan’s arms, his bluish pallor and vacant eyes told a tale of death that caused all the words to be stuck in Jia Molei’s throat.

Chen Youzhi slammed the door shut behind him and hollered, "Bring them inside first! Boss is suffering from frostbite!"

Jia Molei’s shock deepened when he saw the fresh wound marring Chen Youzhi’s face. "Fuck, you too?!"

Cursing up a storm, Jia Molei forcibly hauled He Juan out of the car, who was still adamant on holding onto the corpse, toward the house where the sterile room had been prepared. He had already assessed He Juan’s overall condition with a glance earlier, but it wasn’t until they were under bright lights that he fully grasped how severe it was.

He Juan’s entire body was trembling uncontrollably, his complexion ghastly pale, his lips tinged with a bluish hue, and frostbite evident on the tips of his fingers. Moreover, there was so, so much blood all over his body that made Jia Molei, who had been through countless operations, shudder.

Jia Molei’s mouth did not stop cursing as his hands moved swiftly to gather the necessary supplies. "Get your ass over here and clean that blood off your face first!" He snapped at Chen Youzhi who was standing at the doorway like a fool. Then, turning his attention back to He Juan, his impatience got the best of him, "What the fuck are you doing holding onto that body?! Let go of him first, or how the fuck can I—"

He was interrupted when Chen Youzhi grabbed his arm and shook his head in quiet insistence.

Jia Molei was rendered speechless for a moment before spewing out yet another profanity. "...Fuck!"

Left with no other choice, he could only grab a pair of scissors to cut away He Juan’s wet clothing, as the immediate priority was to remove them and prevent further frostbite. However, he did not expect that a huge surprise was waiting for him as soon as the pieces of drenched fabric fell to the ground.

"What the..." Jia Molei almost dropped his scissors as his eyes locked onto the freshly stitched wound that sprawled across He Juan’s chest like a horrendous and massive caterpillar. Yet, it was not what shocked him the most. Being a doctor who had dealt with He Juan for years, of course he knew about the black dragon tattoo on He Juan’s back. But right now, half of that black dragon was no more, leaving behind only a wide expanse of raw, exposed flesh that stretched from He Juan’s shoulder blade to his lower back.

"Who..." Jia Molei’s face contorted in rage, his voice quivering. "Who did this to you?!"

When He Juan remained unresponsive – he looked as though his soul was not even here – Jia Molei whipped his head around to seek answers from Chen Youzhi, only to find a similarly aghast look on the man’s face. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"You have no idea about this either?!" Jia Molei demanded in disbelief.

Chen Youzhi numbly shook his head, but then he recalled something, "More than a month ago, I received word that he was injured, but I didn’t know what he was doing prior to that..." he pressed his lips into thin lines, his expression twisted in frustration. As a result, more blood oozed out of his open wound, causing Jia Molei a massive headache.

"You, go. Just go over there and clean your face first," he shooed Chen Youzhi away like a stray dog. "I will fix this son of a bitch first before his wounds get infected."

"... don’t..."

The two men’s heads snapped to He Juan the instant they heard him talk. Although the voice was quiet, almost inaudible, they heard each word nonetheless in the otherwise hushed room. He Juan kept murmuring under his breath, his voice as thin as a fleeting breeze. "Don’t take him away..." he clung to the lifeless body with fervor, raw anguish in his tone. Even then, his bloodshot eyes were dry, as he had no more tears to cry. "Don’t take him away from me..."

Jia Molei made a noise as though he wanted to curse only to twist his tongue at the last seconds. Raising his head, he closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths. Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. Only then did he grudgingly concede, "Fine. Fine, let’s do this."

He grabbed a syringe from the tray, and out of He Juan’s line of sight, he gave a signal toward Chen Youzhi. Nodding, Chen Youzhi moved into position to hold He Juan in place, while Jia Molei swiftly administered an anesthetic injection to him before he could react.

What they did not expect was He Juan’s excessive reaction.

As though recalling an unpleasant memory, He Juan’s pupils dilated and he emitted a feral growl. He leapt to his feet, his movement wild and frenzied, as he kicked the bed in Jia Molei’s direction. "Scram!" His expression was almost manic, as if he was descending into madness. Oppressive pheromones surged out of him, though they quickly waned when the anesthetic took effect. Nevertheless, he continued to retreat until his back hit the wall, his teeth bared at the two people in the room. "Don’t you dare get close to me again... I will kill you! I will definitely kill you this time!"

It was fortunate that He Juan was in a severely weakened state, thus suppressing the impact of his pheromones. Besides, both Jia Molei and Chen Youzhi were Betas, so aside from some headaches and mild nausea, they felt nothing else. They could at least bear with this much discomfort, but it did not mean Jia Molei was not pissed.

"What the hell is your problem, you bastard?!"

Chen Youzhi, on the other hand, raised two hands to show that he meant no harm.

Alas, He Juan was too far gone in the depths of his own torment. Even as he struggled to breathe, even as his knees buckled underneath him, he still forced himself to stay conscious and held his little brother closer to him. He shook his head as his vision blurred, but there was nothing he could do to fight against the darkness that beckoned to him. His body functions began to shut down one by one, and he could feel his strength ebbing away. Even biting the tip of his tongue failed to keep him awake.

Desperately keeping the young man close to him, he slumped to the ground, his breaths coming out in ragged gasps.

The last sound that penetrated his fading awareness was a familiar snobbish voice grumbling, "This is why I hate treating Alphas." And then he succumbed to the abyss.
