Chapter 442: Get It Over With

Mu Yuze did not even know where he was going. Fresh air welcomed his lungs as soon as he burst out through the door, and he instinctively chose a direction with fewer people. The street lights flickered above him, casting a shadow to his swaying figure. Eventually, unable to bear it any longer, he braced his hand against a street post and threw up on the curb.

"Mu Yuze!"

He could faintly hear Zhong Yun’s voice calling out to him, followed by quick approaching footsteps. "Oh shit," Zhong Yun cursed quietly upon seeing the state he was in, then he went forward to pat Mu Yuze’s back. "Are you okay? Did you eat something wrong?"

Mu Yuze did not feel better after emptying his stomach. Instead, the pain in his body intensified, and it hurt so much that he broke out in a cold sweat. The night breeze blew by, chilling his skin and sending shivers down his spine. Nevertheless, he took a deep breath and resolutely tried not to show any weakness.

He straightened up and told Zhong Yun with a hoarse voice, "I’m fine."

"How can you be fine?!" Zhong Yun demanded with knitted brows. "Look at you, your face is as white as a ghost! Are you sick?"

Mu Yuze shook his head. "Just a little cold. You should go back inside. I will go home by myself."

Again, Zhong Yun protested loudly, "No! How can I leave you alone when you’re like this?! Come on, let’s just go home!" He grabbed Mu Yuze’s arm and slung it over his own shoulders, supporting him as they walked along the dark street. Mu Yuze tried to refuse, but his whole body felt weak and he ended up leaning half of his weight on Zhong Yun.

"I’m sorry..." he whispered.

Zhong Yun snorted, "Sorry for what? You should have told me if you’re feeling unwell, dumbass. We could have come after you’re better!"

’But I don’t want to step into any bar again... ever,’ Mu Yuze thought inwardly, a bitter smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

Whenever he thought of what he had witnessed earlier, he would feel so pathetic and angry at himself. He should not have agreed to Zhong Yun’s invitation today. If only... if only he had not stumbled upon that beautiful scene, he could have continued to fool himself into thinking that he was the one who knew He Juan the best.

Oh how foolish he was...

He had let the fact that they lived under the same roof get into his head and distort his logic. So what if they had been living together for months? So what if he was the first person He Juan saw every morning? It still did not change the fact that He Juan had his own life outside the house he had taken as their safe haven.

Mu Yuze’s eyes blurred with tears and he desperately held them back by clenching his teeth, a muffled groan escaping his lips.

Zhong Yun was instantly alarmed, "What’s wrong? Hey, tell me! Should I call an ambu—" his gaze was drawn to the people in the distance and he immediately halted on his tracks. A curse slipped out of his mouth."Shit. Oh fucking shit, why do we so unlucky tonight? Alright, listen to me, Mu Yuze."

Sensing something amiss in Zhong Yun’s behavior, Mu Yuze rapidly blinked the tears in his eyes away and raised his head to see a few people at the end of the street, chatting and smoking. He had grown up being surrounded by these people and he only needed one look to know that they were local thugs.

Zhong Yun slowly backed away like a thief, the line of his entire body tense. "Listen, okay? We will slip away quietly... yes, as quietly as possible—fuck!"

One of the thugs noticed them and gestured to the others. Then, the whole group started to approach.

Zhong Yun wanted to cry but had no tears, "I shouldn’t have worn this suit tonight... RUN!" He abruptly turned around and dragged Mu Yuze with him, but they had not even taken more than five steps when three more people emerged from the side alley and blocked their path, whistling.

"Where are you going, boys?" One of them grinned, revealing his yellow teeth. He flicked his gaze towards the pale and weak Mu Yuze. "Drunk? Oho, he doesn’t look too bad..."

The first group blocked their retreat and guffawed. "You’ve just come out of Twilight Haven, haven’t you? Tsk, look at how well you dress yourself up. Then you should have some spare money to share with us?"

Zhong Yun put on a crying look and tried to escape in a civil way, "Brothers, my good brothers. I can give you my suit and phone. But believe it or not, I don’t have any money..." as Qiao Biwen was supposed to treat them tonight.

However, before he could finish his sentence, the man spat out his cigarette, cursing, "Do you take me for a fool?!"

"No, no! Please listen to me!" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Mu Yuze could feel the dampness of Zhong Yun’s sweat from where his arm was pressed against the boy’s neck. Though his face was pale and his body was still throbbing in pain, his dark eyes were clear and sober as they surveyed the surroundings.

The exit was blocked, and the street was desolate. The houses had their lights turned off, and the residents inside would not care even if someone was murdered in front of their houses as long as it did not concern them. The chances of someone passing by and helping them were less than ten percent.

There were eight thugs, while they were only two.

Mu Yuze took a deep breath and stood up straight, cutting off Zhong Yun’s ramble midway, "Let’s just break through and get it over with," he said, his voice especially loud and clear amidst the night. "These people will not let us go. You know it."

Zhong Yun gawked at him in shock and disbelief, "But... But this is my most expensive suit. What if it’s torn?!"

Mu Yuze’s expression was icy as he spat out, "Torn or stolen, in the end it will still be unsalvageable. Which one will you choose?"

Zhong Yun pondered for half a second and decided with a remorseful sigh, "Okay, torn sounds better. At least, I don’t have to face my mom’s wrath for losing my clothes."

The thugs were enraged upon hearing their casual conversation. "I think you’re seeking death! Come, I won’t be satisfied until I break all the bones in your body!"
