Chapter 431: Meeting The Traitor

A few days later, He Juan finally came face-to-face with Mo Feng, his ex-subordinate turned traitor to Xuanlong.

In accordance with the terms they had agreed on, they would meet in a neutral location where He Juan would not be able to kill him. But it was not like they could meet in public either, with the kind of identity they had. In the end, they settled on a high-end bar which was not included in Xuanlong’s territory.

By the time He Juan arrived at the VIP room with Marius and Ye Qiu in tow, Mo Feng was already waiting for them inside.

To be completely honest, He Juan was not confident that he could hold a calm conversation with this traitor, and hence he needed Marius to hold him back in case he lost his mind in the heat of the moment. And as their discussion was related to the fate of mutated Alphas, Ye Qiu also had to tag along. Thus here they were.

Mo Feng looked like he had aged ten years since the last time He Juan saw him. Dark circles hung below his eyes, his hair had grown past his neck and slightly disheveled. His entire person looked haggard and exhausted.

As soon as he saw He Juan, he immediately tensed up in vigilance, though his gaze flicked to Ye Qiu for the briefest moment before he refocused on He Juan again. That micro movement did not go unnoticed by either He Juan or Marius.

Marius took his seat beside He Juan, whereas Ye Qiu opted to stand guard by the door instead.

"Have you been waiting for long?" He Juan put on an impeccable smile. The more emotional he was, the more he could not show anything on his face. After all, this had always been how he was. Behind his mask of cordiality was a mighty volcano on the verge of erupting, and Mo Feng should have known better than to betray him.

"B–Boss..." Mo Feng stammered, his shoulders hunched and his grip on the edge of the seat tight enough to drain the color from his knuckles. He looked so timid and vulnerable like this that He Juan was reminded that the person before him was barely twenty two of age. However, before his heart could soften, the image of Ma Ping who lay helplessly on the bed with bandages all over his body and Old Liu who died without his corpse intact flashed through his mind, and a flicker of coldness burst out from the depth of his silver eyes.

The person in front of him was a traitor who had killed not only two of his most trusted subordinates, but also a lot of innocent civilians. And for that alone, He Juan would never show him mercy.

"Mo Feng," he uttered the name with a gentle laugh, and Mo Feng couldn’t help but flinch as the man had always referred to him kindly as ’Mo’er’ in the past. He shrunk deeper to himself as if he wished to make himself as small as possible, but He Juan’s eyes held only disinterest. "Are you sure you’re still qualified to call me that way?"

Mo Feng clenched his teeth, and the next second, he suddenly sprung up to his feet and kneeled before He Juan.

Both He Juan and Marius took back the hand that was reaching for their guns, and then they heard Mo Feng plead,

"Boss, please... please forgive me! I know what I have done is unforgivable, but... but I have a reason for it! I swear on my life!" To prove his words, he even raised three fingers to the sky.

Looking at him like this, He Juan couldn’t resist laughing as if he had heard the most ridiculous joke in the world. "Really, Mo Feng? I came here for information about the secret facility, but you insist on bringing up our grudge?" Toward the end, his voice morphed into a low hiss, as every cell in his body seethed in pure anger. "Do you want to make me snap and kill you by accident? Hmm?!"

"XIU," Marius clasped his shoulder firmly, snapping him out of the crimson haze in his mind. Then the blonde man told Mo Feng, "Please go back to your seat first, Mr. Mo. We are here for nothing but information. Of course, if you insist on provoking XIU again, then there’s nothing I can do." Though his tone was patient and a gentle smile curved on his lips, if one looked closer, they would be able to see that his ocean blue eyes were frosty.

Despondent, Mo Feng finally resigned to his fate and returned to his seat. He grabbed a glass of wine on the table and gulped it down, saying, "I will tell you everything I know, but... I don’t know where to start. Please just ask me questions."

The three of them exchanged glances, before Marius finally relayed the first question they had prepared beforehand, "How did you come to know about this secret experiment? And the facility in Yuyang that not even our Little Miss here knows about?" He gestured at Ye Qiu. "Also..."

Marius rubbed his chin and gave a young man an intrigued look, "I noticed that you didn’t look too surprised by her presence here. Have you known her somewhere before?"

Ye Qiu scrutinized Mo Feng from head to toe and shook her head firmly, "Never seen him before."

"Of course, if he has been tailing us all this while, it’s natural for him to know Little Miss Ye too," He Juan remarked with a cynical laugh. "Right, Mo Feng?"

Cornered by two superior Alphas and one mutated Alpha, Mo Feng, an ordinary beta, found that it was hard to breathe properly. T–This sheer pressure was no joke! Even though none of them had released their pheromones, their mere presence alone was enough to suck all the oxygen in the room, leaving him struggling for air!

He swallowed hard and began to speak, his voice shaking ever so slightly. "I... I am an orphan and an ex special force soldier took me in when I was six. It was through him that I learned about the secret experiment. You see, my stepfather... he had to retire early because he was severely injured by a mutated Alpha."
