Chapter 411: Uncrowned Hero Of Justice

Mu Yuze quickly made his way home under the sweltering heat, only to find that a beloved guest had been waiting for him outside the gate.

As soon as he approached, the orange cat with white and black spots on its body immediately perked up and let out a sweet meow.

"Hey," Mu Yuze’s gaze softened when he looked down at one of Kitty’s kittens, which had now fully grown into an adult. He let the cat draw an 8 around his feet as he rummaged through his pocket for the key to open the gate. "I’m sorry, have you been waiting long?"

"Meow~"

Mu Yuze stepped in through the gate with the cat trailing closely behind him. He saw that the food and water bowls he had deliberately left on the lawn had become half empty, and thus he quickly moved to refill them, placing them in front of the waiting cat. Then he crouched down and watched as the chubby feline ate heartily with a loud purr on its throat.

"The other three have always come and go as they please, so why are you the only one who insists on waiting for me to return?" He murmured under his breath, despite knowing that the cat would be able to give him an answer.

A year ago, when one of He Juan’s subordinates – as well as the one who had driven them to the hospital – dropped by to notice him that He Juan was going on a sudden business trip until an indefinite time in the future, Mu Yuze suddenly found himself all alone with four small kittens under his care.

Perhaps they were the main reason why he could cope with the gaping hole that formed due to He Juan’s absence. Amidst his packed study lesson, the weekend martial arts session in the dojo, and taking care of four kittens, he realized that the loneliness did not seem as unbearable as he originally thought it would be, much to his own surprise.

He did not want to become a weak and helpless boy who could not do anything without He Juan, who could only rely on He Juan like a bloodsucking parasite, and thus he set out to improve himself instead. So that if the man returned one day, Mu Yuze could stand proudly in front of him and say, "How is it? I am making good of our promise, right?"

"Meow~" The cat called out sweetly when it had eaten its fill and went to rub its head on Mu Yuze’s knees, bringing him out of his thoughts.

"Finished already?" Mu Yuze’s lips twitched into a slight smile when he saw the empty food bowl and he stroked the cat’s head gently. "Good boy."

The cat snuggled with him a little bit more before it turned around and left, much to Mu Yuze’s helplessness. The four of them were just like their adventurous mother. As soon as they could walk and eat solid food, they could not be contained inside the house anymore and would always ask to be let out. Gradually, Mu Yuze chose to let them roam free as they pleased, only leaving food and water on his lawn in case they returned for a visit.

Standing up, Mu Yuze patted the nonexistent dust on his trousers and entered the house. The first thing he did was to take a refreshing shower to wash away the sweat and grime on his body, and after that he started to do his summer homework.

Time flew by quickly without him realizing. Seeing that the sky was getting dark, he left his bedroom to whip up a simple dinner for himself.

It was at this time that he could not help but think of He Juan again. "If only you’re here to taste it..." he looked at the warm meal he had cooked, and a bitter smile hung on the corner of his lips.

The loneliness might be bearable, but Mu Yuze found that there were so, so many things he would like to tell He Juan. For example, when he managed to learn a new recipe, he would think of letting He Juan try it. When he won his first sparring session after five months of arduous learning, he wanted He Juan to be the first person to know it. When Teacher Wei told him that he was ready to take the high school entrance examination this year, he wanted to share the good news with He Juan as soon as possible. When the meatbun stall they often visited closed down because something happened to the owner’s daughter and he needed to go back to the village, he wanted to ask He Juan if there was something they could help the old man with. He also did not name Kitty’s four kittens because he wanted to ask He Juan’s opinion about it first and foremost.

Such miscellaneous details in his daily life, he wanted to tell He Juan about them all. But how was it possible when the man did not leave him any way to contact him at all?

Mu Yuze had tried to call He Juan’s number countless times, but it always ended up in a female mechanical voice saying that the number was out of service...

Realizing that his thoughts were wandering to He Juan again, Mu Yuze hastily braked himself and finished his meal in a few large mouthfuls. After that, he did the laundry, cleaned his house a bit before he retreated to his bedroom for the day.

Noticing that his voice was still rough and scratchy, he ate another cough drop just in case, and then he threw himself into the bed littered with He Juan’s clothes, inhaling deeply of the man’s unique scent. He furrowed his brow when he noticed that He Juan’s smell had faded quite a lot. With a groan, he got up again, snuck into He Juan’s bedroom and stole a few more pieces of clothing.

He dumped them all on his bed, arranged them in a way that suited his taste, and only then could he be satisfied. The faint pheromones that lingered on the clothes surrounded him, making him feel like he was back in He Juan’s embrace.

As per his night routine, he grabbed his phone and started to scroll through the daily news.

It was a new habit he had procured a few months ago, since he accidentally found out that He Juan – or to be exact, XIU – seemed to have quite a fearsome reputation in the country. He was painted as a mysterious and enigmatic figure who would deal with corruption in a dirty and savage way. No one knew who he was or what his real identity was, for he had always come and left like a shadow. But it was all due to his effort that the rate of crime in the country decreased significantly.

The uncrowned hero of justice, or so the media hailed him.

Mu Yuze liked to read news about him. Aside from the fact that he could find out what He Juan was up to, he also took pleasure in the fact that he was one of the rare people who knew who XIU truly was. Even though sometimes it worried him to death to know that He Juan was out there doing something dangerous.

It got to the point where he suspected if anything sensational that happened in the country was He Juan’s doing. For example, the gruesome death of a member of National Congress, Dai Zhi, whose body was found in politician Fang Yazhu’s house after a few days of his death. Or another example was Prime Minister Liang Yuanjun who recently rose into position with a solid 80% votes. Hearsay XIU was the one behind her, acting as her pillar of support.

Of course, it was all groundless rumors with no evidence whatsoever, but something told Mu Yuze that He Juan indeed had a hand in those events.

It made him realize all over again how far the distance between them was, and it motivated him to work even harder. After scrolling through today’s news and finding no new articles about XIU, Mu Yuze finally resigned to his fate, turned off his phone and prepared to sleep, hugging He Juan’s suit jacket to himself.

Unbeknownst to him, at the same moment, a man clad in a three-piece royal blue suit was walking out of the VIP passageway in the airport’s arrival terminal, with his sleeve jacket fluttering behind him. His long hair hung above his waist, still looking perfectly silky despite the long hours of flight.

He turned on his phone and scrolled through his list of contacts, pausing when his eyes landed on a certain name.

"Hmm..." He Juan murmured quietly under his breath. "If I return all of a sudden, will Xiao Ze be shocked? No, he will most likely punch me on the face..." he chuckled helplessly, knowing that he deserved it for leaving without a word.
