Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 182: Shocking Discovery
He deserved to know everything, a voice within He Juan’s mind whispered in what seemed like a guilty conscience.
He Juan should have done it eons ago. He should have told Mu Yuze the truth about the photos, his dubious past... everything.
He had been consumed by guilt and remorse all this while, but like a coward, he told himself that everything that happened in the past was done by another ’He Juan’, the one who had died from the accident seven years ago. A side of him that had withered away. He tried to separate himself from that ’He Juan’ as if they were not the same person to begin with. He also reassured himself that he would definitely tell Mu Yuze after he had gotten the bigger picture.
But after being confronted by the blue-eyed man that night, after knowing that Jia Molei – his best friend and quite literally the person he trusted the most in this world – was someone from his past, He Juan was forced to change his mind all over again.
It seemed like he had overestimated the severity of the matter. The price he had to pay for knowing the truth... might not be light. He Juan did not mind if he had to suffer. Either way, it’s not like he had not suffered before. But he could not drag any innocent people into his mess like how he did with Su Xieren. And oh, if the same thing were to happen to Mu Yuze...
He Juan was not certain if he could stay sane.
Mu Yuze looked him straight in the eye, his gaze utterly earnest. "Then... why don’t you tell me?"
His question broke the train of He Juan’s thoughts. He blinked. "...Hmm?"
"You said... I don’t know what kind of person you are..." Mu Yuze’s eyes were crystal clear, and within them He Juan could see steel-like resolution, a hint of distress as well as other complex emotions he could not comprehend. "...Then why don’t you tell me, Juan-gege? Isn’t that the whole point of being in a relationship?"
He Juan was taken aback when he heard this. Unable to help it, he let out a chuckle, which further dissolved into a full-body laughter. He laughed so hard that his shoulders shook and tears pooled on his eyes. "S–Sorry..." he said when he caught a glimpse of the confusion in Mu Yuze’s features. "I didn’t mean to laugh but oh God..." He Juan shook his head helplessly. He just could not believe it. He was already thirty three for God’s sake! He had lived one-third of his approximate lifespan, yet he still needed someone nine years younger to tell him something so obvious!
Mu Yuze was right. Wasn’t communication and honesty the most important aspect for a healthy relationship? How could he bring himself to lie to Mu Yuze all this time? ’It’s because you’re a fucking idiot,’ a voice that sounded awfully similar to Jia Molei rebuked him harshly.
This matter was actually simple. He needed to tell Mu Yuze, and then if the omega could not accept his past, then... He Juan would try to let him go. It might kill him to do it, but if that’s what it took to keep Mu Yuze safe, then he was perfectly willing.
Steeling himself, he faced Mu Yuze with a reassuring smile. His heart and mind had become clearer once he decided his future course of action. "Okay, I will tell you, but... I might need to have a good talk with Molei before I do so. Can you wait for me until then?"
Mu Yuze abruptly straightened up. His eyes widened in astonishment. He was just trying his luck when he proposed something like that. But who could have guessed that He Juan would agree?! "Really...?" Mu Yuze sought the Alpha’s eyes, trying to find any hint of a lie within. "You’re really willing to tell me?"
He did not ask why He Juan needed to talk to Jia Molei first, and He Juan was also too distracted by the shimmer in Mu Yuze’s eyes to notice this little fact. He felt distressed when he saw that his omega was on the verge of crying again. Why did he always make Mu Yuze cry? Or... was his little omega just a big crybaby? Whatever it was, He Juan could not bear to see any hint of sadness in those beautiful eyes of his.
"Anything..." He Juan leaned forward to give him a kiss on the forehead, placing his sincere vow into that one tender kiss. "I will tell you anything you want to know, Precious."
Mu Yuze let out a shaky exhale and his hand moved to grip He Juan’s sleeves as though he wanted to confirm that everything was not a dream. Naked hope was reflected on his red-rimmed eyes, and it was so pure and intense that He Juan felt his heart tighten from how much he adored this man. "And after that..." he trailed off and peered up at He Juan, hopeful.
He Juan immediately knew what the omega wanted to talk about. Oh God, how could this man be so endearing? He let out a fond chuckle and bumped his forehead on the omega’s, his tone extremely soft. "After that, Gege will give you a mark. Any mark you want."
Of course, if you still decide to stay when that time comes, he added inwardly.

Soon, it was time for He Juan to go through another CT scan. When Su Xieren came to escort him, He Juan borrowed his phone to send a quick message to Jia Molei, telling him that they needed to talk. After that, he told Su Xieren to inform him as soon as he got a reply.
Mu Yuze accompanied him until they got to the CT scan room before he bid goodbye to He Juan. It had been more than a day and he had no idea how the case had progressed. "I have to go back to work," he told He Juan, not without reluctance.
It had been utter bliss to cuddle with his Alpha and saw his face as soon as he woke up, but responsibility awaited him. He could not stay with He Juan in bed knowing that there was a case that had not been solved yet. Moreover, Wu Yuan was He Juan’s student and they also had uncannily similar experiences that compelled Mu Yuze to pay more attention to him.
"You’re going back to work?" He Juan asked, surprised. "Are you allowed to be discharged from the hospital?"
Mu Yuze nodded. The reason why he entered the ICU ward was because of He Juan. In actual fact, he only needed to rest and not let his pheromones out so as to not aggravate his gland. Aside from that, he was as fit as a fiddle.
"Oh..." He Juan tried to tamper down the irrational urge to confine the omega to his side. He also knew that he could not hold Mu Yuze back for long. He plastered an easy smile on his face and stroked the omega’s head. "Okay, please relay my apology to Captain Li for delaying you. And... will you come back?"
Mu Yuze hummed. "I will come back as soon as I can."
That was enough. He Juan heaved a sigh of relief and ushered him off.
Mu Yuze’s phone had been left in the nurse station when he entered the ICU ward and it was not until now that he turned it on. As expected, the calls and messages he received had piled up into a mountain, mostly from Kang Guanyu who often sent him random memes, unrelated gossip and complaints about their inhumane work hours. Even though Mu Yuze ignored it 95% of the time, it did not hinder the other man from sending him messages all the time.
This time, Mu Yuze also intended to scroll down when a new message came in just in time, still from Kang Guanyu. He squinted his eyes and it took him a whole three minutes to piece together the jumbled letters. Once again, Mu Yuze consolidated his hatred for messages.
[Kang Guanyu – Violent Crime Division]: Oh God, Mu Yuze, when are you going to come back? There’s a shocking discovery! We found a corpse and guess who it belongs to? It’s Q-I-N Qin Zhen, that very same man who worked at Phoenix Ablaze!]
