Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 113: Are You Willing?
In the end, 510 murder case was closed with the addition of statement submitted by a victim, Ye Lingya, who bravely chose to step forward and testified against Deng Shi and the others, and it became a crucial piece of evidence that sealed those bastards’ fates. From the start to the end, her identity was firmly kept under the lid and only the officers who were responsible for the case knew.
It did not affect her social life whatsoever, just like Su Xieren had promised, but the effect on her mental health was tremendous. This heroic act seemed to boost her courage to come clean to her parents, to talk about the difficulty she was struggling with, and after an emotional confession, she started to receive regular counseling from a professional psychologist who was recommended to her by Er Meilin.
After the case was closed, Zhao Xinya’s body was cremated and instead of being kept inside an urn in the columbarium, Su Xieren requested for her ashes to be scattered in the sea.
When Zhao Xinya was still alive, both of them had made a plan to ride in a holiday cruise ship once winter ended, as she longingly admitted that she had never been to a sea before. Unfortunately, man proposed and God disposed. In the end, this plan was fated to never be fulfilled. Alas, this kind of thing had never deterred Su Xieren before. Even if Zhao Xinya had become ashes, he still wanted to satisfy her lingering wishes.
"To rest in the sea is also good," Su Xieren said. "It is vast, tranquil, and the scenery is breathtaking. Xinya will definitely like it here."
Because Miss Zhao’s only living relative aka her maternal aunt, Bai Huan, was not willing to claim her ashes, the job to prepare the funeral landed on Su Xieren’s head, which he complied with willingly.
The funeral was held at the peak of spring where the breeze were the most serene and sweet. The entire procession was simple and direct mainly because Su Xieren was a very casual person. After the official ceremony of ashes scattering which was done personally by Su Xieren, the guests only needed to place flowers on the shore and let the waves bring it into the sea. As simple as that.
Unexpectedly, quite a lot of people attended the funeral. In addition to Su Xieren, Jia Molei and He Juan this trio, there was also everyone in the Violent Crime Investigation Unit, and the staff in Phoenix Ablaze as well as the Boss himself.
It was ironic how Zhao Xinya’s aunt and uncle were not even willing to come to their niece’s funeral, but instead it was dominated by people who were involved with Zhao Xinya after her death.
He Juan wore a formal black shirt and straight black pants, highlighting his superb figure and adding on an air of solemnity to his features. Strands of his hair, which had escaped the braid, fluttered messily against the wind. He did not make any move to tidy them up as he merely gazed into the sea with a faraway look, lost in thought. By his feet was a single stalk of white lily that was gently swept away by the waves.
It was not until someone came to a stop beside him did he finally break out of his trance. Even without looking, He Juan already knew who it was and unable to resist, his lips curled into a slight smile. "Xieren is right," he commented with a sigh. "It’s really beautiful here. Miss Zhao definitely will not be bored with the scenery."
"Mn," Mu Yuze replied.
He Juan turned sideways to catch the omega’s dark eyes, and his heart suddenly skipped a few beats. Clearly, it had not been long since they last met as He Juan was busy assisting Su Xieren with the funeral these past few days, yet for some inexplicable reason, longing surged in his heart, reminding him of how much he had missed this person. Even when Mu Yuze was with him, He Juan still found himself yearning and wanting more of the other’s presence. Goodness... how sappy was he going to become? This must be because of the funeral’s melancholy mood as well as how mesmerizing the sea was!
He Juan asked, "Have you ever been here? To a sea, I mean."
"No." Mu Yuze shook his head. He turned his gaze in front, staring at the direction where He Juan was transfixed on earlier. The breeze ruffled his soft fluffy hair, shrouding him in a mellow air. "I was always busy with work."
He Juan’s inhaled sharply when he heard that. This was your chance, He Juan! He took a deep breath to brace himself, then asked in a tone as casual as he could muster, "Now that the case is already solved... you won’t be as busy anymore, right?"
Mu Yuze tilted his head to stare at him, confused as to what he was up to.
He Juan looked around to confirm that nobody was paying attention to them, then he reached out to hook his pinky finger with Mu Yuze’s. The omega’s eyes widened briefly, stunned at the sudden little intimate contact. Seeing that, He Juan flashed a brighter smile. "You know... these past few days, Su Xieren has been in a bleak and nostalgic mood. He kept telling us to go for what we want in case we regret it in the future and..." he took another deep breath. "I think what he said makes perfect sense."
"Officer Mu, I have something I really, really want to do. Are you willing to help me fulfill it... lest it becomes one of the most regrettable moments in my life?"
Hearing how serious he was as well as the sudden switch of address, Mu Yuze could not help but straighten up and his expression became more severe. "Tell me. If I can do it, I will definitely help you, Juan-gege." He was more than willing to do anything so that He Juan would not have any regrets in his life. No matter what kind of risks it would involve.
He Juan heard this solemn declaration and had to bite down on his bottom lip to contain the delight overflowing in his chest. Oh goodness... how could this man be so naïve and adorable to boot?! Clasping Mu Yuze’s hands in his, he stared straight into the omega’s dark and beautiful eyes, then softly asked, "Go on a date with me?"
***
Qin Zhen had just stepped out of the public bathroom cubicle when he found someone washing his hands in front of the sink.
It was a tall man with streaks of crimson highlight in his hair. He had a robust and proportional body and through his rolled up sleeves, Qin Zhen could see his arm that was inked with dense tattoos. In a glance, it was apparent that this man was not to be trifled with.
Qin Zhen halted in his tracks and hesitated whether he should go up and wash his hands as well. The man in front of him was wrapped in a dark and terrifying aura, one that kept people from approaching. Qin Zhen’s instinct, which had been honed through years of working in Phoenix Ablaze, told him to get away as far as possible from this man!
However, when he thought of how everyone around the vicinity should have been the attendees to Miss Zhao’s funeral, he reckoned that he must have been thinking too much. How could there be someone dangerous in this place? Everyone ought to be Miss Zhao’s acquaintances one way or another, right?
Shaking his head, Qin Zhen held his breath and carefully took the space beside the man to wash his hands. He finally breathed a sigh of relief when he found that the man did not come up with anything funny. He simply stood there and meticulously washed his fingers one by one, rubbing each knuckle and joints as if... as if he wanted to rub off a layer of skin. He did not even stop when his skin became red in irritation. This... wasn’t this a little too excessive?
However, for fear that he would say something he shouldn’t, Qin Zhen kept his mouth shut and hastened his pace. He finished washing his hands in less than five seconds, wiped them with tissues and had just wanted to step away when the man suddenly lifted his head.
Their gazes met across the mirror.
Qin Zhen’s heart inexplicably thumped in his chest.
Jia Molei’s lips tilted into a sneer. "Are you going to pretend you don’t know me, Master Manipulator?"
