Captive Mate BL-Chapter 635: - - -
Caspian had been looking forward to dinner at Lake’s all week; his curiosity about the gym had all but faded after the building had been going on for days without an end in sight.
He had even gone there to sneak a peek, and all he saw were torn-down walls, a lot of equipment, and materials. It was too dangerous to linger around without proper safety equipment, so after satisfying his curiosity, he didn’t go back there again.
He stood on the steps outside and stared up at the gray sky, waiting for Asher and Jael to come out so they would leave.
It had been cold all day, the skies gray like they heralded rain. It meant that Caspian wore a bomber jacket over his sweater, his hands hidden in his pockets as he contemplated hurrying back in to get some gloves.
Asher was the first one out, the familiar footsteps made him turn around, his smile freezing on his face as he saw what his mate was wearing.
"Where’s your fur coat?" Caspian asked with concern.
He closed the distance at first just to be close to Asher, but the closer he got, he warmer he felt, until he was burrowed right in Asher’s arms.
"My coat?" Asher repeated, confused but all too happy to let Caspian cling to him.
"Yes, it’s cold." Caspian’s voice was muffled against his chest.
"It is?" He prompted, his question genuine.
Now Caspian pulled away, concerned. He was wearing layers, and it still felt cold, yet Asher was in a simple, unbuttoned dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking perfectly fine.
He was used to Asher’s temperature always running warm, but he mostly attributed it to his mate insistence on wearing his heavy fur coats even in the height of summer.
Asher was already pulling away, intending to go back inside to grab his coat.
"Wait," Caspian frowned, already missing the Alpha’s warmth. "You’re not cold?"
Asher shrugged, it was just dinner at the Black Mafia House, he had tried to go for casual by ditching his coat. "Maybe a little," He replied, but it was clear that he just said that for the sake of it.
Caspian reached out to place a small hand on his forehead, gently tucking his hair out of the way as he did. His frown deepened, "Are you warm?"
Asher’s response was another shrug, "Not really." Even as he gave his answer, a devious light crept into his hazel eyes as he considered playing up his mate’s worries so that they would end up spending the evening in bed.
Caspian pulled away and rubbed the patch of skin that had made contact with Asher. Maybe it was because the weather was much colder, and that was why it felt like his mate was a little hot to the touch.
"Don’t worry about the coat," He said instead, absentminded. "Jael should be here anytime soon..."
He barely got all of his words out before Jael was showing up behind Asher. The Beta’s eyes were hidden behind dark glasses, but the disgruntlement on his face was clear to see.
"Why are you two holding up the line?" He complained right away.
Caspian stepped off the stairs with a smile, "We were waiting for you."
"Well, I’m here now." He kept complaining, heading right for the car.
Even Jael had thrown a jacket on, the black leather jacket unfamiliar on his broad figure.
Caspian’s worried eyes drifted over to Asher again, stealing the passenger’s seat because he knew it would tick his mate off. He was chuckling to himself as he did up the seatbelt, leaving Asher grumbling all alone in the backseat.
As Jael started up the car, Caspian could help but think that he could probably drive them to Davian’s turf, but even if he had gotten his license, the chances of them letting that happen was next to zero.
Just as Jael drove them out the gates, Caspian’s eyes widened, blue eyes sparkling as he looked out the window. "It’s snowing!"
This caught the others’ attention, even Asher who had been sulking in the back seat sat up to get a better look.
Jael slowed the car to a stop outside the gates at Caspian’s urging.
The elated Omega was the first out the car, lifting his face to the gray sky with a smile. "It’s really snowing," He repeated, snowflakes dissipating on contact with his skin and clothes.
Asher got out of the car next, simply to get a better view of his mate enjoying the snow.
Jael sat tight, watching the sparse snowflakes flurry down, his eyes hidden by his sunglasses.
Caspian didn’t keep them waiting on the side of the road for long, but before he could get back into the car, Asher stole him away to the back seat.
Jael already saw that coming, unfazed as he resumed the drive.
The first snow.
It was only a light shower, white particles spiraling down only to dissipate into nothingness.
The car they were in didn’t have a partition but Jael barely noticed, so caught up in his own thoughts that he didn’t hear a word of what was going on in the backseat.
These days, he found that he thought of Lucy less and less. The holidays were approaching, so she would have probably taken some time off to spend it with her younger brother.
Hell, if she had managed to pay off his debt in time, she would have probably left. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Jael always knew that the reason their relationship worked out was because he tried not to interfere, Lucy valued her independence above everything else.
He knew that before they got together, it would have been dumb to try and change her. He didn’t even mind it, he only wished it hadn’t been the driving cause behind her death.
His thoughts didn’t linger on her for very long, the high gates of Mafia King Davian’s mansion soon coming into view.
Snow was still falling as he drove throw the open gates, he no longer kept mints in his car, not because he no longer needed them but because he had gottenn sick of them.
Stepping into the snow was pleasant, just as pleasant as Caspian’s happy laughter as he caught sight of his best friend.
Jael shucked his jacket closer, eager to get out of the snow. He preferred to watch the snow from shelter, preferably in a warm, enclosed space.
