Author’s Note: Couldn’t seem to find the perfect time to put this in, so my apologies if it seems a little random.

Lake rolled out of bed, planting his feet solidly on the ground. Davian had already gotten out of bed, no doubt to get started on breakfast.

Sometimes, Lake caught him in time and kept his mate by his side for a while longer, other times, he wasn’t quick enough.

His hair was a bird’s nest as he padded over to the bathroom to get ready for the day. It was the start of a new week, and the only thing that could keep him bedbound was if the baby started coming right out.

He dressed up in no time, glancing down at his rounded stomach as he stood in front of the floor-length mirror. He would have to go shopping soon, his clothes were starting to fit a little uncomfortably tight.

Frankly, the only reason he hadn’t exactly had to go shopping for pregnancy clothes was because he mostly wore his mate’s clothes at home, and his usual clothes were already loose.

But now, there was no putting it off anymore, the baby would only grow faster as he approached the third trimester - Lake glanced down at his stomach stretching out his silk dress shirt, he wasn’t looking forward to that.

After dressing up, he propped a hand on his waist to support his back as he went off to find Davian, reinvigorated by an idea. They were always able to check the baby’s gender if they wanted, but Lake hadn’t wanted to know yet, it didn’t matter to him regardless.

But he was already in the 26th week, he really needed to start preparing. The baby would be here soon, and the baby would also need clothes.

By the time he got to the kitchen, he was out of breath, and he hadn’t even been running. It made him grimace and stand outside the kitchen door to catch his breath, knowing that if he went in panting, it would only make Davian panic.

He placed his free hand over his belly, patting it absently as he waited for his breathing to settle down. He really should have started exercising much earlier.

It was just Davian in the kitchen, his Alpha turned around on a dime when he stepped in, gray eyes scanning him over.

"That smells divine," Lake praised as he beelined right for him, holding his arm as he leaned over to peer into the bubbling pot.

Davian’s proud expression couldn’t even be hidden by his stoic features, basking in the praise dished out to him. "Breakfast is almost ready, come sit." He guided him to a nearby stool.

Lake darted to the side, "Wait, I wanted to ask you something."

"What?" Davian asked with a furrowed brow.

"Can we stop by Doctor Perez’s to find out the baby’s gender?"

Davian’s eyes widened in genuine surprise. He had taken Lake’s request not to find out the gender of the baby in stride - whatever his mate wanted.

"Alright." He agreed in the next moment.

Lake’s expression softened into exasperated fondness. He had discussed with Davian earliar that they should wait till the baby was born, and now that he had abruptly changed his mind, his mate didn’t even seem to care.

"Are you not going to ask why?"

Davian reluctantly stepped away to keep an eye on breakfast, "We’ll do whatever you want." He said with complete conviction.

Lake couldn’t help his smile, "Well, I’m going to tell you anyway. It’s because I wanted to go shopping for the baby..."

"Shopping for the baby?" Rosie’s excited voice cut into the conversation as she stepped into the kitchen.

Lake turned to her, happy to talk to someone else with opinions. Unless it put him in mortal danger, Davian gave him everything him wanted without hesitation.

It was sweet but how was he supposed to brainstorm with his mate?

"Yes, after we find out the baby’s gender."

There was currently a lull in the High Council’s attacks, there might not be this level of freedom in the coming months.

"Ooh! What do you think about a gender reveal party?" Rosie suggested enthusiastically, going over to quietly try to guide Lake to a stool.

Lake made a face to her suggestion, "I want to stand for a bit more." He turned her down as well.

Rosie graciously stepped back, refocusing on the conversation. "Nothing grand or gaudy. Just like a little dinner with family and friends, and a gender reveal cake?" She quickly elaborated.

It was clear that Lake was seriously considering it, "That actually sounds really nice," He reluctantly admitted. "How about we do it this weekend? Enough time for the preparations."

"I’ll bake the cake," Davian snuck into the conversation after listening on the sidelines for a while.

"It’s supposed to be a surprise for you too, love." Lake interjected.

Davian didn’t protest, and it had a lot to do with the term of endearment his mate had so casually tossed out.

"Katya could bake the cake, I’m sure she would love to." Rosie spoke up.

They could easily have it made by any bakery but Katya would really love to be the one to bake the cake.

"I’ll talk to Caspian... actually wait, maybe I shouldn’t." Lake cut himself off.

He wanted it to be a surprise for everybody, and knowing Caspian, he would want to help out with baking the cake. Frankly, if he was allowed, he would insist on being the one to bake it.

Rosie laughed already figuring out his thought process, "Might be better to keep it a secret from him too."

Lake made a face, knowing it was going to be difficult considering that he planned on inviting Caspian out to go shopping. The more time he spent around his friend, the more at risk his secret would be.

"Just leave it all to me," Rosie patted his shoulder, going over to set the table for breakfast.

Nikolai and Angelo would be coming over any time soon, most times, the dangerous couple joined them for breakfast and dinner, always giving a heads up if they wouldn’t be able to make it.
