Captive Mate BL-Chapter 618: - - -
Shaun said nothing to the gun pointed right at his head when he stepped in, he expected this welcome and the only reason he had been quick to put himself in danger was for Eaton’s sake.
They would probably be better off trying to take the Mafia King by force, and he was well aware of how dangerous Mafia King Asher was. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"It’s an honor to finally meet you in person," Shaun began smoothly.
"Get to the point," Asher bit out, gun held steady.
Shaun remained unflinching despite the barrel nearly shoved right up his nose. "Alpha Eaton has a proposal for you," He dropped all pretenses.
Eaton had pressed upon how cordial he needed to be but Shaun had completely run out of patience.
Asher’s dark expression didn’t change, just behind the High Council member, Jael stood calmly, gun still in his hand.
"Side with the High Council and Haines will be all yours." Shaun said calmly.
There was tense silence for a few long seconds, and the Asher cracked up. The Mafia King laughed hard enough for his eyes to water, wiping his eyes with the hand that held the gun.
"The High Council sure seems to have a lot of time on their hands." Asher muttered, already over the conversation. His mate would be here soon, he wanted to clear up this mess quick.
Shaun didn’t say more, instead, he took out a heavy, silver signet ring. It bore the symbol of a wolf’s head with a gaping maw, it was a very notable symbol. The seal of the High Council.
Asher’s eyes widened a fraction, the ring was so important that it never left the fingers of the High Council’s head. Yet it had been brought to his turf over a silly request.
His surprise was only momentary, "Tell Eaton he can fuck himself with his signet ring, and get off my turf before things get ugly."
Shaun was quick to rise to his feet, the ring was proof that the High Council meant their word, it was up to Mafia King Asher to decide what he wanted to do with that information.
"I’ll be waiting for your decision," He said with poise as he rose to his feet, quick to leave without any further prompting.
Jael didn’t accompany him this time, staying behind in Asher’s office. He said nothing, waiting patiently until his Mafia King did.
His loyalty was to Asher, not to his Mafia House, not to Haines. If his Mafia King wanted to take the High Council’s offer, he would go along with it regardless of his opinions.
Asher’s response was a scowl, shooting a smoking hole through a far wall. "Why the fuck would I want to be the High Council’s lackey?" He muttered, pissed now that he was thinking it over. "Should have shot a hole through that bastard’s lips.
Jael smiled for the first time since he got the call, "If they’re so quick to bring out the High Council’s seal, they’re not going to give up so easily."
"The next person that shows up in my parking lot is getting shot," He said decisively, looking like he would like to call up Shaun Levine just to tell him that.
Jael picked up his ringing phone as Asher kept scowling and cursing, the High Council were being uncharacteristically open-handed. It was almost like they knew something about Asher that no one else did.
He frowned as he got the thought, only to be distracted by the news that Caspian had shown up. He got up to go get him personally, worried that the High Council’s men were still lingering around.
Caspian had a smile on his face as he got out of the car. "You didn’t have to go through the trouble to come pick me up." He half-scolded, holding on a little too tightly to the cutesy basket he had brought with him.
His off-shoulder top had ruffles around the wide stretchy neck, it was pastel yellow with patterned flowers, and it made his hair glow.
Jael could see his bodyguards eyeing the basket like they were trying to figure out a way to take it from him but from the looks of things, Caspian seemed to have been holding onto it the entire car ride here.
He had been about to offer to take the basket but he wisely didn’t, having a gut feeling that Caspian wanted to be the one to carry it.
"I was already outside," He lied glibly, leading the way around to the back entrance.
Asher was all smiles when they showed up, his gun stowed away out of sight.
Hell, Jael always wore his guns but something about Caspian made him want to put them out of sight as well. There was something disarming about the Omega, he would look right at home in a stately mansion, violence kept the furthest possible away from him.
It wasn’t lunch yet so he didn’t linger in Asher’s officer, giving them privacy this time as he wandered to find something to keep himself busy. There was more than enough to do because the men were all to eager to bring complications to him to deal with.

Shaun didn’t keep Eaton waiting, ringing up the other Alpha as soon as he was in the car driving to the airport. He reported everything that had happened word for word.
Mafia King Asher’s response had been expected, if anything his reaction had been pleasant because it wouldn’t have taken much out of the trigger-happy Alpha to put a bullet in him.
Shaun had hoped it wouldn’t come to that, just as they couldn’t send men to directly threaten the Mafia Kings, he had hoped the courtsey would be extended in the other direction.
But then again, they were Mafia Kings, if they followed the rules, there wouldn’t be a war. He knew without being told that Mafia King Asher had turned down the proposal because he had known that he would have to become a puppet of the High Council, not because he cared about stabbing the other Mafia Kings in the back.
