Chapter 97: Difficult To Find

Grandma Franchia spoke. "My boy, can I go with you to the morgue?" she requested, eager to see the corpses of the women.

"No you can’t, please stay here in the house, mother dear. Maxwell and I are enough to check the body in the morgue. Just wait for news," Alpha Nelson said. "You’re too old for this...you might get nauseated seeing the dead bodies in the morgue in different states of decomposition."

Grandma Franchia. "OK fine, I’ll stay here and wait for the news."

After grabbing a quick breakfast, the father and son duo quickly got into the car waiting in the driveway and drove in the direction of the morgue.

Twenty minutes later, they finally arrived at the Eternal Peace Morgue and requested to see the mutilated bodies of the women found on the outskirts of the city.

The morgue attendant led them to the room where the bodies were currently stored. Outside the door, they were given two white scrub suits, face masks and gloves to wear before entering the room.

When they entered the room, there were two bodies covered in white cloth lying on the operating table.

"Sir, I will now remove the cover on body A so you can check if she is the one you are looking for," the morgue attendant said.

"Yes, please," Alpha Maxwell replied, holding his breath while standing beside the table.

The attendant removed the white cloth and the mutilated body of the woman was revealed for them to see.

Alpha Nelson closed his eyes instantly because the woman’s face was disfigured. Looks like her face was repeatedly smashed by a heavy object and both her hands were missing.

Alpha Maxwell was horrified by the absolute cruelty the woman suffered at the hands of her murderer. He hoped she was already dead when this brutal torture was done to her body. He peered closely at her unrecognizable decomposed face and inspected her body. He knew Deborah had a brown circle birthmark in the upper part of her right arm near the armpit.

"What do you want to see, sir?" the attendant asked.

"My wife had a brown circle birthmark on her right arm. I need to see it because this woman’s face is already disfigured. It’s hard to identify her," Alpha Maxwell replied.

"OK. Give me a minute. I will assist you sir," the attendant said. He gently raised the woman’s right arm and they didn’t see any birthmarks at all.

"Thank you. Since there is no birthmark, she is not my missing wife," Alpha Maxwell confirmed positively.

"Are you sure?" the attendant asked.

"Yes. I would like to see the second body next," Alpha Maxwell requested.

"OK." The attendant nodded his head.

They proceeded to the next table. The attendant removed the white cloth and the mutilated body of a woman whose head and both legs were missing elicited a groan of shock from the father and son duo.

"Is this the work of the serial killer on the loose?" Alpha Nelson asked grimly, feeling sorry for the victim.

"Yeah, the pattern was the same with other women who were his victims in the past," the attendant explained. "I will raise her right arm now so we can see if she has a brown birthmark on her right arm."

The attendant raised the woman’s right arm.

Alpha Maxwell looked closely. Although the body was already in decomposition state, the birthmark should still be visible.

He didn’t see the birthmark that he wanted to see. Huge relief washed over him. "I’m positive this is not my wife," he finally said.

"Are you sure, sir?" the attendant asked.

"Yes. I’m 100% sure," Alpha Maxwell replied.

"Alright, your visit is over. You may leave the room," the attendant said politely.

"Thank you," Alpha Maxwell said gratefully.

The father and son duo left the room and returned to the lobby of the morgue to breathe fresh air.

"My heart bled at the way those women were killed. So barbaric and horrific. They were tortured to death. Whoever orchestrated their deaths was a sadistic person. He killed women without mercy," Alpha Maxwell said grimly, trying to erase the horrifying sight of the women’s dismembered bodies lying lifeless on the operating table.

"I agree, son. I hope the serial killer who killed these poor women will be caught soon. His sadistic cruelty repulsed me," Alpha Nelson said, his jaw clenching in anger.

"Those bodies were already dead for several days. My wife was only missing a day ago. She might still be alive as of this moment," Alpha Maxwell said, feeling hopeful.

When they were about to leave the morgue, another car arrived and it was Deborah’s parents’ car.

The couple rushed inside the morgue.

Alpha Roger saw them first. "Did you already see the women?" he asked urgently, bracing himself for the bad news.

Alpha Maxwell nodded his head. "Yes, we do. It was not my missing wife Deborah," he assured them.

The couple sat on the chair as huge relief washed over them.

"Thank you Moon Goddess!" Luna Mary cried in relief. Tears of gladness fell down her face.

Alpha Roger rubbed his wife’s back gently, comforting her.

"Please Moon Goddess, give me back my daughter. I want her back alive!" She said between tears, crying helplessly.

Alpha Nelson and Alpha Maxwell braced themselves as Luna Mary raised her head and shot daggers into her son-in-law’s eyes. Her eyes flashed with animosity.

"Go find my daughter ASAP! Give her back to me! You are a useless husband. My daughter won’t divorce you if you are a good husband to her! You don’t deserve her! I hate you!" Luna Mary snarled angrily.

Alpha Maxwell bowed his head in shame and regret. "I’m so sorry..."

"Wife, please calm down. Let’s go home now," he said, standing up, gently pushing his wife to the door. He looked at the father and son apologetically and mouthed sorry before pushing his wife to the door.

The men watched as the grief-stricken couple moved to the door and left the building.

"It’s all my fault," Alpha Maxwell sighed despondently.

"It’s not entirely your fault, son. I’m the one to blame because I forced you to marry Deborah. If I only knew this would happen, I would not have forced you to marry her. Maybe if the wedding didn’t push through she is still safe as of this moment," Alpha Nelson said remorsefully.

Alpha Maxwell breathes heavily. It’s too late for his father to realize that agreeing to Deborah’s selfish whims has now resulted in a bad ending. But that is life. Regrets always come at the end, never at the start.

"Let’s go back now to our house, Dad, and from there we will discuss a good plan on how to find my wife and bring her back home safely," Alpha Maxwell said.

"OK." Alpha Nelson nodded his head.

The men left the morgue and got back into their vehicle. Alpha Maxwell drives the car, heading home.

The moment they arrived home, the ladies quickly gathered around them and bombarded them with questions.

"What happened, husband?"

"Tell us now, Dad!"

"Did you see the corpses, son?"

"Calm down, girls. We will answer all your questions one by one," Alpha Nelson said with a sigh.

The men lowered themselves on the sofa, ready to answer the women’s questions.

Alpha Nelson looked at his son. "Go ahead, tell them everything. But don’t be too graphic. They might throw up if they tried to visualize what we saw in the morgue."

"OK." Alpha Maxwell cleared his throat. "We saw the decomposing bodies... and it’s not Deborah," he said. His statement was plain and short.

The women released a collective sigh of relief as they released the tension that had tortured them while waiting for the news.

"Thank you Moon Goddess!" Becca said loudly, almost in tears.

"It means Deborah might still be alive somewhere..." Luna Adela said, feeling hopeful.

"Yes, possibly," Alpha Nelson murmured.

Becca open the folder and remove the blurry photo of the guy that entered Deborah’s car. "This is the photo of the guy who kidnapped Deborah. His face is not clear in the photo. He could be wearing a wig, a fake beard, fake teeth and so on. Sadly the only person who could identify him is Deborah."

Alpha Maxwell studied the photo. "You are right, sis. His photo is blurry. Even if I met him on the street but his hair is already short or he was wearing sunglasses to hide his eyes, and wearing a cap on his head, it would be extremely hard to identify him. Unless he has the same hair and the same black attire."

Alpha Nelson stared at the photo for a long time, trying to read the inner workings of the kidnapper’s mind. "This guy might visit public places again to lure new victims. The question is when? And where is the location of his hideout, in the city or in the countryside?"

"And even if he showed himself again in public, would he return to the place where he kidnapped Deborah?" Grandma asked.

"I think he won’t do that anymore or else he will get caught easily," Becca said.

"So where can we find him?" Luna Adela asked the impossible question.

Alpha Maxwell breathed heavily. "I have no idea. Finding that guy is like finding a needle in the middle of the Pacific Ocean," he muttered in distress.

Alpha Nelson stood up. "Continue brainstorming children. I will rest for a few minutes in the bedroom. I have a painful headache that is about to start," he said and immediately left the living room to rest.

Alpha Maxwell also stood up. "I’m also going to rest in my room," he said, clutching the mysterious guy’s photo as he climbed the stairs, heading to the second floor.

Now that the men are gone, the girls look each other in the eyes.

Becca’s eyes gleamed. She rose to her feet. "I will help them find this guy!" she stated bravely.

"No! Don’t try to find this guy on your own. You might end up as his next victim. After work, I want you to return to our house immediately and avoid visiting public places for now. We live in such dangerous times. Women nowadays are being kidnapped and killed all over the country." Luna Adela shuddered in fear, wanting to protect her only daughter from serial murderers hiding in the dark, rapists and human traffickers.

Becca pouted. "I want to help find Deborah!" she insisted stubbornly.

Annoyed, Grandma pulled Becca back to the sofa. "Enough! Don’t be stubborn, child. We are just protecting you from harm."
