Captive By Desire, A Love We Can't Deny-Chapter 94: Nightspot
Alpha Maxwell was sitting on the sofa in the living room when the two women entered the house.
The women settled on the sofa, facing him. ππ«πππ¨ππ―ππ πππ.ππΌπ
"Son, what happened to your wife? Did you have a fight again?" Luna Adela asked.
Alpha Maxwell shakes his head. "No. She just told me that she was going to meet her friends at a party tonight. So to avoid angering her, I gave her permission to go to the party. She told me that she wouldnβt be coming home tonightβshe will sleep at her friendβs house," he explained.
"Ah, I see...I thought you and your wife had a quarrel again. That is why she was acting weird today, telling us that she was divorcing you. Is this true, my boy?" Grandma asked.
"Yeah. She told me about the divorce but I donβt believe her. Iβm sure tomorrow sheβll say she was just joking around," he said calmly.
"You donβt believe her? But she looked serious when she told us about the divorce," Luna Adela insisted.
He shrugged. "Iβm not sure what she really wants. We will know tomorrow after she comes home from the party. Donβt worry too much about it, Mom. My wife is good at scheming, maybe this is just her way of pranking us," he said, not worried at all.
Luna Adela sighed. "Alright, letβs see tomorrow..."
"I will order the maid to prepare a snack for you," he offered.
"No need, my boy. We are going to have dinner soon. Why donβt you join us in the mansion for dinner since your wife is not here?" Grandma suggested.
"Sounds good," he replied with a smile.
The maid came forward and said, "Alpha, before your wife left, she told me to pack her things and put them in the suitcases because she will leave the house tomorrow," she informed him.
Three pairs of eyes landed on the maid.
"Oh, really? Looks like she is serious about divorce this time. Unbelievable!" Grandma gushed, her eyes gleaming while meeting her grandsonβs gaze.
Alpha Maxwell met his grandmotherβs gaze. They communicated in silence.
"Oh, this is not good," Luna Adela commented in dismay. "The wedding barely lasted for two months."
Alpha Maxwell took a deep breath. "If Deborah really wanted a divorce from me then Iβm very much willing to oblige her," he said with a smile.
Luna Adela glared at him. "But son, what will people think if your marriage to Deborah doesnβt even last for two months? They will gossip for sureβwondering why the marriage ended too fast," she said in distress.
He heaved a sigh. "Mom, I donβt care what people say. You know Deborahβs attitude, right? If she wants something done she always gets it. She easily dissolved my marriage to Naomi. The wedding happened according to her wishes. And now she wants a divorce. Do you think I could stop her?"
"But son, make the marriage last for at least 6 months or even one year. You guys donβt have to stay in one house anymore. Just stay married on paper for at least one year before you file for divorce. Maybe you can still fix your marriage," Luna Adela pleaded.
Grandma rolled her eyes. "Dear...what Deborah wanted she got it for sure. You know her, right?" she said, pleased by the sudden turn of events.
Alpha Maxwell saw the worry in his motherβs eyes. "Alright, Mom...I will stay married to Deborah on paper only for six months. But I doubt if you can convince her to delay the divorce," he said with a shrug, not caring what his wife would do next.
"When your father comes home tonight I will tell him about your wifeβs decision," Luna Adela said.
Grandma thinks itβs too early yet for everyone to know about the divorce. "Nah, donβt do it yet, dear. Letβs wait for tomorrow after Deborah comes home. Who knows she was just pranking us today, and tomorrow she will tell us that she had a change of heart. That woman has an erratic mind. She canβt be trusted with her own words," she said with a shake of her head, not fully convinced yet of the authenticity of Deborahβs latest stunt.
Luna Adela took a deep breath. "OK. I wonβt mention anything yet to my husband. Maybe you are right, Grandma, this is just one of Deborahβs diva antics."
The women shifted their attention to baby Zed and doted on him before returning to the mansion.
One hour later, the Burke family can be seen gathering around the dining table in the mansion for dinner.
Alpha Nelson looked at his son. "Why are you here alone? Where is your wife?" he asked.
"She went out to meet some of her friends in the disco bar, Dad," Alpha Maxwell replied.
Alpha Nelsonβs brows snapped together. "What? She went bar-hopping? Such a cheap place to meet oneβs friends! Anyway, letβs eat..." he said, not in the mood to discuss Deborahβs latest questionable act.
The family ate in silence.
After dinner, the family chatted in the living room.
It was already 8:00 in the evening when Alpha Maxwell returned to the bungalow house, cradling baby Zedβs sleeping form in his arms.
He entered Deborahβs room, and put baby Zed on the bed then changed his diaper. Afterwards he put him in the crib.
He stared at the wall for a few minutes thinking about what to do next. Since his wife is not coming home tonight, he might as well bring his son into his room so that he can babysit him for the whole night.
He made baby formula and put it in the fridge. Later, if his son wakes up hungry, he can give him milk right away.
He instructed the maid to close and lock the doors because he wanted to sleep early. He took his son into his room and placed the crib near the bed.
Heβs not sleepy yet so he unlocked his phone and initiated a chat with his sweetie pie.
Alpha Maxwell: Hello sweetie...howβs your day?
Naomi: Fine, how about you? How is your day?
Alpha Maxwell: I just got a shocker today from Deborah.
Naomi: What is it?
Alpha Maxwell: She told me she wanted a divorce and starting tomorrow we are no longer husband and wife.
Naomi: Reallyβ? Is this true? Sounds unbelievable to me.
Alpha Maxwell: Yeah, Iβm not convinced yet that she is truly serious with her intention to divorce me. I will know tomorrow if she is serious.
Naomi: Where is she now?
Alpha Maxwell: She is out of the house partying with her friends right now.
Naomi: I see...let her have some fun. Maybe she was bored staying in the house, taking care of your son.
Alpha Maxwell: Thatβs what I did. I gave her permission to have fun with her friends. She will not come home tonight. She will sleep at her friendβs house and return home tomorrow to pack her stuff and return to her parentsβ house and stay there until the divorce is finalized.
Naomi: Oh, she really said that? I still find it hard to believe.
Alpha Maxwell: Yeah, sounds unbelievable indeed. Until now her statement didnβt register in my head yet. I will only believe her if she really packs her clothes tomorrow and leaves our house for good.
Naomi: Alright, you will know tomorrow what she will do next...donβt forget to share with me the good news.
Alpha Maxwell: Of course, I will let you know right away sweetie pie.
Naomi: I love you!
Alpha Maxwell: I love you more.
The couple chatted until 10:00 in the evening. When Naomi started yawning, feeling sleepy, they finally bid each other goodnight.
Alpha Maxwell was about to put his phone on the bedside table when he decided to send a text message to his wife asking how the party was going.
After sending the message, he went to the bathroom and brushed his teeth to get ready to retire for the night.
He checked his phone to see if his wife had responded to his message. Still no message at all. He placed a call on her number. Her phone rang, but she refused to answer his call.
He eventually got tired of calling her and put his phone on the bedside table. He left the lights on so he could see his son right away if he suddenly woke up in the middle of the night.
Alpha Maxwell drifted into a deep slumber, snoring softly.
At 3:30 in the morning baby Zed stirred in his sleep and began crying.
He woke up, retrieved the formula milk from the fridge, warmed it up a little bit with hot water and then fed it to his son.
While his son drank his milk, he was checking his phone to see if there was a message coming from his wife. He found none.
After his son finished burping on his chest, he put him back in his crib.
One hour later, baby Zed went back to sleep. Alpha Maxwell resumed his sleep as well.
The following day, he woke up at 7:00 in the morning and had breakfast at 7:30.
His wife hasnβt arrived yet. Worried why sheβs not home yet, he called her number again but the phone was already unavailable.
Ah, maybe she will arrive at 9:00 in the morning.
Time flew by.
But still no sign of Deborah.
By 11:30, Alpha Maxwell noticed that his wifeβs phone could no longer be reached.
So he decided to wait a little bit longer before reporting to work in his office.
He called her number again several times, but it was unavailable again, the same annoying message.
The afternoon has finally come...
Deborah still did not reply to his text messages and his phone calls. During this time he was already anxious, deeply worried about why his wife had refused to go home and call him back.
When it was already 4:00 oβclock in the afternoon, Alpha Maxwell felt something was not right.
Panicking he began calling Deborahβs parents, brothers and sisters.
They all answered the same thing... they didnβt receive a text message or call from Deborah yesterday and today.
Anxious, he called Deborahβs close friend Janice, asking when was the last time she saw Deborah at the party last night.
What Janice told him sent a shiver down his spine.
