Cannon Fodder in an Era Drama — I Survive with Acting-Chapter 159: Don’t Blame Me for Being Merciless
When Yang Meiling heard that both Song Qingya and Song Chenglu had gone to the health clinic, and would have to stay there for several days, her heart sank.
She had it all planned out. She wanted to use this opportunity to find Song Chenglu and have a good talk with her.
Ideally, she could get her to start scheming, to do something for her.
’As long as the baby in Song Qingya’s belly is gone, there’s still a chance for things to turn around.’
But now they were gone, and her plan had suddenly fallen through.
"It’s nothing. I was just asking."
She suppressed her feelings and forced a nonchalant smile.
"With them not home, the house is much quieter. It’s actually quite peaceful."
She then put on an act, offering a few pleasantries to Mr. Fei.
"Uncle Fei, have you been well lately? The weather has been so unpredictable; you should make sure to wear an extra layer."
Mr. Fei just nodded and grunted noncommittally, not even bothering to look her in the eye.
Before long, Yang Meiling made an excuse, saying she had things to take care of at home and had to get back.
Mr. Fei couldn’t have been more pleased. He wanted her to leave as soon as possible to avoid starting any gossip.
Yang Meiling had just stepped out of the Fei Family’s gate and hadn’t even found her footing when she ran right into Mrs. Song, who was walking toward her with a grim expression.
Yang Meiling’s heart leaped into her throat.
Mrs. Song planted herself firmly in front of her, not yielding an inch.
"Did what I said last time go in one ear and out the other? You really didn’t take it to heart at all, did you?"
Yang Meiling’s eyes darted away. Not daring to look Mrs. Song in the face, she quickly lowered her head, feigning innocence.
"Aunt Song, what are you talking about? I was just dropping by to see Uncle Fei and Aunt Liu, to have a little chat. I didn’t mean anything else by it."
Mrs. Song wasn’t buying it. She sneered, the corner of her mouth twisting.
She lowered her voice, but every word of her warning was crystal clear, as if squeezed through clenched teeth.
"Stop playing dumb with me! I’m asking you, did you go looking for Lu Lu again? Don’t think I don’t know what you’re plotting!"
"I’m telling you, Yang Meiling, if you don’t cut it out, don’t blame me for not going easy on you! You’ll have hell to pay!"
Choked by her words, Yang Meiling’s temper instantly flared.
"What Song Chenglu does has nothing to do with me! I didn’t force her to do anything! She can go wherever she wants. Do I have any say in the matter?"
Mrs. Song’s face went pale with rage as she stared at her, shaking her head.
"Still talking back? Yang Meiling, you’re shameless! Your family is so well-off, you live a better life than anyone. Aren’t there plenty of men who are good enough for you?"
"Why must you cling so desperately to Ajin? Can’t you just live your own life in peace instead of destroying the tranquility of another family?"
Yang Meiling craned her neck defiantly, her eyes bloodshot, refusing to back down an inch.
"Fei Jin was supposed to be mine! If Song Qingya hadn’t interfered and stolen him from me, I would already be his wife!"
"She’s the one who’s a thief! Why is it that as soon as she comes back, everything good goes to her?"
Listening to her increasingly outrageous words, Mrs. Song was so furious she was speechless. It was all utterly absurd.
"Have you lost your mind? Fei Jin and Song Qingya were engaged long ago. That’s set in stone, and the entire village knows it!"
"Look at the state you’re in now, spouting nonsense like a lunatic. Do you think you’re still worthy of him?"
"Song Qingya is a vixen! She knows how to seduce men! She used her tricks to bewitch Ajin!"
As Yang Meiling spoke, her eyes grew red-rimmed and her fingers trembled uncontrollably. Her voice was shrill and vicious.
"Once she’s gone, and the baby is gone, Ajin will naturally realize who is truly good to him!"
"Then, he will be mine again! No one can take him from me!"
After hearing this, Mrs. Song felt a chill creep up from the depths of her heart.
No wonder Song Chenglu had fallen into her trap. She had laid out her scheme long ago, planning every insidious step.
This woman was rotten to the core, with absolutely no morals to speak of.
Mrs. Song wanted to reason with her, hoping she would stop and no longer torment Lu Lu and Qingya.
She didn’t want to see her two daughters hurt each other, and she certainly didn’t want to see her family fall apart.
Seeing the expression on her face, Yang Meiling laughed triumphantly instead.
"Aunt Song, save your breath," she sneered, her voice sharp. "Song Chenglu can’t wait to have a complete falling out with Song Qingya. There’s no chance for them to reconcile now. It’s useless, no matter what you do to me!"
Mrs. Song’s heart sank upon hearing this.
She knew in her heart that no amount of persuasion would move this person.
Yang Meiling had long been blinded by jealousy and hatred, completely deaf to any reason.
Seeing Mrs. Song standing there in silence, Yang Meiling assumed she had won.
"Aunt Song, just you watch," she said, enunciating each word in a chilling tone. "Watch how those sisters tear each other to shreds! When the time comes, no one will be able to save them!"
With that, she snorted coldly and turned to leave.
Mrs. Song watched her retreating figure, a deep chill settling in her heart as she trembled with rage.
She took a deep breath and shuffled heavily toward the courtyard.
Liu Li was just about to go out grocery shopping.
But when she looked up, she saw Mrs. Song standing in the courtyard, her face deathly pale.
"What are you doing standing here?"
She asked with concern, "You look so pale. Are you not feeling well? Does anything hurt?"
Mrs. Song forced the corners of her mouth into a smile that looked more pained than if she had been crying.
"I’m fine. I was just missing my two girls."
"Qingya and Lu Lu haven’t been home recently, so I’ve been a little worried."
Liu Li heard this and didn’t suspect a thing, thinking she was simply sick with longing. She smiled and replied, "You miss them, huh? Don’t worry, Qingya and Lu Lu went to look for work together. Young people these days need to get out and see the world. You shouldn’t worry too much."
Mrs. Song paused, her expression flickering. She immediately understood that Liu Li was covering for the girls so she wouldn’t worry.
"Yes, they’re grown up now. They have to find their own way."
"Are you going shopping? I happen to be free. How about I go with you? That way you won’t have to carry everything by yourself."
"Oh, really?"
Liu Li’s eyes lit up. "That would be great! It’s always more fun to go with someone. We can talk and pass the time."
Liu Li happily took her hand, her tone warm. "Let’s go, let’s go! We’ll go together! Whatever you want to eat, we’ll pick out something good. We have to make a nice meal today!"
When Yang Meiling got home and shut the door, the house was completely empty. There was no one to talk to.
’Another banquet!’
’They all run off to this party or that gathering, but no one remembers me! No one cares where I am or how I’m doing!’
She lifted her foot and viciously kicked a stool.
"I don’t give a damn about some Captain Qin!"
She screamed into the empty air, "I don’t want status, I don’t want prospects! I want Fei Jin! Only he can give me everything I want!"
"This is all Song Qingya’s fault! She already has everything, but it’s still not enough! Now she’s even pregnant! Why?! How can she have such a good life! I have nothing! She stole everything from me!"
Her eyes turned cold, radiating a vicious aura.
She snatched the telephone from the table.
"Hello, it’s me. I need you to find me a few people. They need to be capable—quick, smart, and most importantly, discreet. Not a single word can get out."
