Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 779 - 780: What Will You Feed Me?
Song Jiaren looked at her, chuckled softly, and walked over to sit beside Gu Anxi. "What’s there to be afraid of?"
Then the two of them began, focusing as intensely as elementary school students.
Zhou Yunchen smiled; both were dear to him. "Let them play," he said.
Jiang Chaoge maintained a very proper demeanor. "Anxi is young, so it’s natural for her to be a bit more playful."
As she spoke, she glanced at Bo Xichen.
Bo Xichen held the wine in his cup, a faint smile on his lips, but he didn’t say anything. Chen Ming, that simpleton, laughed foolishly. "Girls will always be girls."
After speaking, his fervent gaze landed on Song Jiaren’s face, completely undisguised.
What an idiot, Zhou Yunchen silently cursed in his heart. The way he’s acting, even a fool could see there’s something going on between him and my sister. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so blatant about it. But he didn’t say anything.
Meanwhile, Song Jiaren was not about to lose to Gu Anxi. Heh, I’m a veteran gamer, after all! she thought.
But only a minute later, she was shocked.
My equipment is clearly better than Gu Anxi’s, so why... why has the tables turned so completely?
Gu Anxi, knowing what she was thinking, laughed lazily. "I never spend money on games. You’re probably just a rookie who relies on gear."
Song Jiaren was so frustrated she nearly stomped her foot. She tried to focus, but in less than ten minutes, she was defeated.
Gu Anxi put her phone away and smiled faintly. "Admit defeat yet?"
Song Jiaren glared at her, snatched her phone, and stormed out of the private room.
She left just like that, without any regard for face.
Gu Anxi was dumbfounded. Chen Ming, looking disappointed, mumbled, "Anxi, couldn’t you have let her win a little?"
Gu Anxi looked at him and chuckled. "Look at you, so worked up."
Chen Ming immediately looked a little embarrassed.
Bo Xichen glanced at his little darling, who was sitting obediently beside him.
At this moment, Chen Ming got up. "I’ll go check on her."
Gu Anxi rested her head on Bo Xichen’s shoulder and grinned. "She’s not that fragile."
Chen Ming’s face flushed. "She’s in a bad mood; I’ll go check on her."
Jiang Chaoge spoke up, "Chen Ming, it doesn’t seem like Miss Song Jiaren particularly wants to deal with you. Won’t you just be bothering her by going?"
Chen Ming hesitated, remembering all those rejections.
The little darling sneered, "Worried about bothering her when you’re chasing a girl? If that’s the logic, then my dear old brother must also find certain pursuits rather bothersome."
Jiang Chaoge’s expression turned sour. Everyone knew her intentions toward King Jingyao, and she was determined to win him over. Meanwhile, Chen Ming, spurred on by Gu Anxi’s words, brightened up instantly, practically jumped for joy, and immediately bolted downstairs.
Once he had left, Zhou Yunchen looked at Gu Anxi. "You little rascal, you have such a sharp eye."
Gu Anxi propped up her chin and smiled. Because Jiang Chaoge was present, she didn’t say much.
Downstairs, Chen Ming lit a cigarette and walked over to the red sports car, tapping on the window.
Song Jiaren rolled down the window and looked at Chen Ming with some impatience. "What is it now?"
Chen Ming put out his cigarette before saying, "Anxi is still young; why are you getting upset with her? She’s just a playful kid. I often lose to her at the shooting range."
Song Jiaren turned her head away impatiently, then scoffed, "She’s a child, so that makes me old, is that it?"
"That’s not what I meant." Chen Ming maintained a patient demeanor. After a moment of thought, he said, "Actually, most people are ordinary. We have to accept that, accept imperfection."
Song Jiaren looked surprised and turned to look at him.
After a long moment, she finally said, "I didn’t expect you to be capable of saying something sensible."
Chen Ming thought for a moment, then walked around to the passenger side and tried the door, but it was locked. He came back around to her window and said in a very polite, almost pleading tone, "Please unlock the door. I have something to say to you."
Song Jiaren shot him a glare but unlocked the door. After Chen Ming got in, she still looked annoyed. "If you have something to say, say it quickly."
Chen Ming, however, asked something seemingly unrelated: "Did you... really take the pill?"
His question was like adding fuel to the fire. Song Jiaren, furious, retorted, "Should I not take it and wait to get pregnant?"
Chen Ming scratched his head and said sheepishly, "Well, it’s not a guarantee... Maybe it was your safe period? I don’t really understand women’s matters that well. I was just asking."
He added another line, "I really like children."
"Then find a woman, marry her, and you’ll have them," Song Jiaren said indifferently.
Chen Ming was dumbstruck.
Song Jiaren looked him up and down for a good while before saying, "Your income isn’t bad, and you’re not bad-looking. You shouldn’t have trouble finding a wife, right?"
"I don’t want them." Chen Ming coughed lightly, then looked straight at her.
Song Jiaren smiled faintly, then took a cigarette pack from the center console. It actually belonged to Zhou Yunchen; he must have left it there. She used to smoke occasionally, but Zhou Yunchen hadn’t allowed her to since she returned. Right then, she craved one.
After lighting a cigarette, she exhaled a smoke ring and asked softly, "You want to marry me?"
Chen Ming nodded.
Song Jiaren chuckled. "But with what means would you marry me? Your annual salary is, at best, around two million, right? Even with future promotions, there’s a limit. That amount isn’t even enough for my regular upkeep. What makes you think you can support me?"
Chen Ming asked quietly, "Is that really what you think?"
"That’s what I think. Otherwise, why do you suppose I’ve always been fond of Bo Qing?" Song Jiaren smiled faintly. "Besides his looks and talent, there’s his wealth."
Chen Ming was a simple, straightforward man, but he also had a strong sense of pride.
Her words were so blunt that he felt too ashamed to pester her further. But he was still considerate towards women; he murmured an apology, opened the car door, and got out. He didn’t leave immediately, though. Instead, he stood in the night breeze and quietly smoked two cigarettes...
Song Jiaren sat in the car, staring at his retreating figure.
Chen Ming was tall, about 185 cm, and well-built.
He was a decent man; Of course, I know that, she thought. But she truly felt they were not cut from the same cloth. As he stood there smoking, Song Jiaren opened a small compartment. Inside was a heart-shaped box.
In it was the necklace Chen Ming had given her.
After a moment’s thought, she took it, opened the car door, and got out. "Chen Ming."
Chen Ming turned around.
Song Jiaren walked over to him, handed him the box, and said softly, "Here, take this back."
Chen Ming smiled faintly. "How can one take back a gift once it’s been given? Besides, I’m not a woman; there’s no point in me having it."
"You can give it to another girl in the future. It’s quite expensive; don’t let it go to waste." Song Jiaren pressed it into his hand.
Just as she was about to leave, Chen Ming took the cigarette from his lips and said quietly, "This was a heartfelt gift. Can something given with such sentiment be passed on to someone else?"
Song Jiaren turned back, somewhat surprised.
But Chen Ming had already taken the item out of the box. With a flick of his wrist, he tossed it accurately into the small artificial lake in front of them. Gentle ripples spread across the water’s surface...
