Chapter 768: Chapter 769 Bringing the Wolf into the Room! Little Sister...2

Upon hearing Chen Ming’s remarks, Song Jia got so angry she stamped her foot. "Superficial!"

Chen Ming replied in all honesty, "But you are really gorgeous."

Song Jia ignored him, looked down, and started playing with her fingernails. "I don’t like you."

Chen Ming’s pride was slightly bruised. Despite his high social status and being considered an eligible bachelor, he was a self-made man. He often thought he was different from others, perhaps rough around the edges due to his background.

He stared at her, his voice gruff as he asked, "Are you sure you won’t reconsider me?"

Then he rubbed his hands together and continued, "I can cook, do laundry, dote on my wife, and give her all my salary. A few thousand for pocket money each month should suffice for you."

Song Jia looked at him, paused, and then said, "You’re being so earnest, but it sounds like you just need a servant!"

Ignoring him, she walked away with Shen Congwen for breakfast, leaving Chen Ming sitting alone and motionless.

After a while, Zhou Yunchen prodded him, saying in annoyance, "Go and have breakfast. Later, you will go buy medicine for her. Consider this matter settled, and no one should mention it again."

Chen Ming couldn’t help but feel disappointed. He would rather Song Jia still hit and kicked him, as she used to, than have her ignore him and give him the cold shoulder now.

He knew he wasn’t an eloquent speaker, and while his looks were only decent, perhaps slightly above average, he was indeed a good man: faithful and not one to fool around. In his mind, if he had taken advantage of a girl, he had to marry her; otherwise, it would be outrageous. But this girl didn’t want him to take responsibility.

Feeling wronged, he stood up and checked his pocket; his wallet was still there.

He then said, "I’ll go for a morning run and grab the medicine while I’m out."

After walking a few steps, he added, "Actually, there’s no need for medication. If there’s a baby, I’ll raise the child."

Shen Congwen chuckled while Zhou Yunchen was so annoyed he didn’t say a word. Only Song Jia snapped, "So, just because you can’t find a wife, I should carry a baby for ten months for you? You’re delusional!"

Chen Ming hung his head and slowly walked out.

Something weighed heavily on his mind, so he ran exceptionally hard.

He had just experienced such elation, only to be met with this crushing disappointment...

When he returned, medicine in hand, he slowly placed it on the coffee table. "Medicine," he stated.

Song Jia glanced up at him. His sweat-drenched shirt clung to his body, highlighting his tanned skin—it was undeniably manly, but completely different from what she had previously liked.

It wasn’t that she despised him, but she definitely didn’t like him. Besides, last night was an accident; there was no need to get entangled.

She took the medicine and then told Chen Ming in a low voice that he could leave.

Chen Ming stood there, dumbfounded. Shen Congwen prompted Chen Ming to go eat breakfast. Wiping his sweat, Chen Ming said, "No need. I’m going home to take a shower, and then I have to go on duty!"

Before leaving, he looked at Song Jia and said sincerely, "If you ever change your mind, let me know. I don’t have a girlfriend."

"I will never change my mind, and there’s no need for you to keep yourself pure for me," Song Jia said without looking at him.

Chen Ming pressed his lips together tightly and said nothing.

He had his pride. After a moment, he said softly, "I know you don’t like a rough-hewn guy like me; it’s okay. In this matter, I’ve wronged you."

Scratching his head, he admitted, "I was quite drunk last night."

He said a few more words, but Song Jia completely ignored them. Eventually, he left, disheartened.

「About two hours later」

A courier delivered a parcel addressed to Song Jia. Upon opening it, she found a diamond necklace inside. The exquisite piece looked to be worth several hundred thousand.

Zhou Yunchen chuckled. "From Chen Ming? That’s half a year’s salary for him! I never realized the kid could be so romantic."

He was confused though: was it compensation or a gift?

"I don’t care for it." Song Jia casually tossed it onto the coffee table... but after a moment, she picked it up again.

It was hers, after all; it would be a waste not to take it.

Zhou Yunchen laughed and patted the jacket he was holding. "Alright, I’m off to work. Don’t be too upset. Just think of it as your brother bringing someone... I sense you don’t really dislike him, do you? If you’re interested, maybe you two could meet up again sometime."

No sooner had his words left his mouth than a pillow flew towards him. "Who said I wanted to meet up with him! I don’t like him."

Zhou Yunchen just laughed. "That’s not what I meant. I just said ’meet up,’ not ’date.’"
