Chapter 766: Chapter 767 The Older Brother Chickens Out and Pretends to be Drunk!

When King Jingyao said this, Wang Jingchuan went to pour wine for Chen Ming, remarking as he did so, "Now that Mr. Wang has spoken, we can’t let you off."

Chen Ming, an honest man, tried to decline while accepting the inevitable, and drank three rounds.

After three rounds, his mind was muddled and his vision hazy. Wang Jingchuan was about to pour him more when King Jingyao, still smoking, chuckled, "Forget it, Jingchuan. I reckon it’ll be tough for him to even get home today."

Looking around as though considering what to do with the drunken Chen Ming, it was Zhou Yunchen who suggested, "My place is quite spacious—I can take him back with me later."

"Good," King Jingyao smiled. "Yun Chen, you’re a big help. Chen Ming is incredibly sincere and rather set in his ways. He’ll make a good husband in the future."

He then raised a glass of wine, a warm smile on his face. "Xiao Jiang, you’ll regret it if you miss this opportunity."

By neither outright rejecting nor accepting, yet subtly nudging Jiang Chaoge towards Chen Ming, King Jingyao played his hand masterfully. He left Jiang Chaoge suspended, unable to advance or retreat, all while remaining perfectly composed himself.

King Jingyao truly lived up to his reputation, an old hand in the games of love.

After a moment, Jiang Chaoge responded lightly, "Chen Ming and I are just neighbors."

In his drunken stupor, Chen Ming heard this from where he was slumped on the table and chuckled blankly. "That’s right. She’s always preferred refined gentlemen like Professor Bo. I’m a crude man, not good enough for her."

Hearing this, King Jingyao merely chuckled softly. Jiang Chaoge looked rather uncomfortable. Zhou Yunchen then spoke up, "I think Chen Ming’s had too much to drink and is talking nonsense. I’ll take him home."

He turned to Wang Jingchuan. "Give me a hand. This guy practices martial arts—he’s really heavy."

Wang Jingchuan, aware of Zhou Yunchen’s intentions, agreed. "Alright, I’ll help you get him downstairs. Speaking of which, Chen Ming really should start a family. If he had a wife, he wouldn’t get this drunk so easily."

Having said that, Zhou Yunchen shot him a look.

As if he hadn’t been the one pouring Chen Ming drinks just moments ago!

Understanding Zhou Yunchen’s unspoken accusation, Wang Jingchuan gave an awkward smile. "I had no choice—it was Mr. Wang’s wish."

Zhou Yunchen said nothing. Together, they managed to hoist Chen Ming—who stood 1.85 meters tall and weighed 80 kilograms—and struggled to carry his dead weight downstairs, breaking into a sweat by the time they reached the bottom.

With Chen Ming sprawled on the backseat like a dead pig, Zhou Yunchen turned, pulled out two cigarettes, tossed one to Wang Jingchuan, and chuckled, "Is Mr. Wang going to take one for the team?"

With that, he lifted his gaze slightly upwards.

Wang Jingchuan grinned. "He’ll have to play along for a bit, I suppose."

Zhou Yunchen took a leisurely drag from his cigarette and chuckled. "Jiang Chaoge doesn’t actually think she can marry into the Wang Family, does she? Wasn’t the old matriarch against her from day one?"

Wang Jingchuan held his cigarette, exhaling a smoke ring. He spoke slowly, "Some people just don’t have a shred of self-awareness. If they did, they wouldn’t be so brazen. If she were half as clever as General Manager Gu, she wouldn’t think a single project could make Mr. Wang submit. Countless women from distinguished families haven’t moved him, so why would he go for her?"

Although Zhou Yunchen hadn’t interacted much with them before, he’d heard whispers of King Jingyao’s romantic escapades. He nudged Wang Jingchuan’s shoulder. "What, is he planning to remain chaste forever? My sister just got her marriage certificate, and he seemed quite supportive, from what I saw."

Wang Jingchuan’s expression became unreadable for a moment. After a pause, he chuckled, "Perhaps he simply enjoys this kind of desolate beauty in solitude."

Zhou Yunchen choked on his smoke.

Shit.

He’s over forty and still carrying on with such affectations?

Wang Jingchuan leaned closer. "That’s his affliction. Too privileged from a young age, it made him overly fastidious. Take Lin Hua, for example—first-rate talent, yet he barely gives her the time of day. There was some minor flirtation between them before, but it’s all come to nothing now."

Zhou Yunchen stared at him.

Wang Jingchuan patted his shoulder. "Alright, now that we’ve spoken so frankly, consider us on the same side. I’ll be counting on your support in the future."

Mr. Wang’s position would, sooner or later, be Zhou Yunchen’s to inherit.

Zhou Yunchen gave a faint smile but said nothing, opening the car door and getting in.

He sat in the passenger seat. The driver asked, "Should we take Chen Ming home first?"

Zhou Yunchen replied without hesitation, "Forget it. It’s late, and he’s a bachelor; there’s likely no one to look after him at his place. Better he comes to mine."

If Zhou Yunchen had known what would happen later, he would never have gone out for drinks that night, much less taken Chen Ming home with him.

The driver nodded and drove off.

Wang Jingchuan watched the car drive off, then stood in the entryway, smoking a few more cigarettes in the breeze. After checking the time and deeming it sufficient, he returned to the private room. Inside, everything appeared normal. Jiang Chaoge was surprisingly talkative, while Mr. Wang leaned back in his chair, eyes half-closed, looking as if he’d had a bit too much to drink.

Hah, drunk? Mr. Wang was a veteran of countless drinking bouts; how could he get drunk so easily!

Jiang Chaoge didn’t look pleased to see Wang Jingchuan return. King Jingyao, feigning being overcome by the alcohol, lifted an eyelid. "Jingchuan, you’re back. Is Chen Ming settled?"

Wang Jingchuan approached, thoughtfully dabbing King Jingyao’s forehead with a towel. He said gently, "Zhou Yunchen took him home. I trust he’ll be well taken care of."

King Jingyao grasped his hand, sighing. "Chen Ming lives alone. He really does need someone to look after him."

As King Jingyao said this, Wang Jingchuan readily agreed. "Indeed. Shall we head back too?"

He looked towards Jiang Chaoge, asking courteously as if nothing had transpired between them earlier, "Dr. Jiang, do you need a car arranged?"

Jiang Chaoge replied softly, "I have a driver."

She had actually hoped King Jingyao would offer, but he, seemingly drunk, showed no such intention.

She felt it was quite a shame and inwardly blamed Zhou Yunchen and the others for plying Chen Ming with too much alcohol.

Having finally shaken off Jiang Chaoge, King Jingyao leaned back in the rear seat, undid the top two buttons of his shirt, and chuckled. "Jingchuan, women these days are terrifying, aren’t they? They throw themselves at you relentlessly, and you can’t even refuse. That’s why women shouldn’t be too clever; it’s exhausting for men to handle."

Wang Jingchuan, sitting beside him, smiled. "I wouldn’t quite put it that way. It’s more that Dr. Jiang isn’t clever enough."

King Jingyao closed his eyes and sighed lightly. "Let’s not talk about it anymore. Any more of this and I’ll get a headache."

Heh, that one is clever enough, alright—too clever, in fact. Just as much of a headache.

「About an hour later.」

The car pulled into the parking area of Zhou Yunchen’s villa.

The night was deep, and silence enveloped the surroundings, broken only by the soft glow of a single wall lamp.

Zhou Yunchen and the driver managed to get Chen Ming to a guest room on the second floor. By the time they finished, the driver was drenched in sweat. Straightening up, he remarked, "This Chen Ming is incredibly heavy! He’s built like an ox—all solid muscle."

Zhou Yunchen chuckled. "He’s a martial arts practitioner. I’ve heard his arm strength is formidable."
