Chapter 699: Chapter 700 I Will Leave Her!

Professor Bo was simply flabbergasted. He smacked her lightly. "Gu Anxi, you’ve learned some bad habits."

The little darling chuckled, playfully cuddling in his embrace for a while. Bo Xichen was completely captivated. After a long moment, he asked softly, "Why are you acting like this today?"

She clung to his waist, silent for a moment before saying, "Mrs. Chu is against their union."

He patted her head. "So, you’re upset, aren’t you?"

She hummed, speaking softly, "Uncle, Chu Yan can’t possibly stay with the Chu family anymore." Seeing that Mrs. Chu’s attitude was firm, she wanted to take Chu Yan with her, but she had to consider Chu Ci’s stance.

Bo Xichen smiled. "Aren’t you good at finding solutions? If it comes to it, she can stay at our home. It’s not like we don’t have space."

She let out a happy cry. "Uncle, you’re truly wonderful."

"Flatterer," he laughed, getting up. "I’m going to take a shower first."

She hummed softly, obediently waiting for him.

When Uncle Bo came out of the bathroom wearing only a bathrobe, its front slightly open as he sat on the sofa, the little darling knelt before him, carefully applying medicine.

His injuries were almost healed; he just needed to apply some ointment, hoping no scars would remain.

Bo Xichen wasn’t overly concerned, but his little wife seemed quite insistent. He indulged and pampered her earnest efforts.

Just at this tender moment, Old Mr. Bo peeked in from the doorway. "Dinner’s ready."

His eyes then widened in surprise—

Gu Anxi acknowledged with a soft "Oh," and continued applying medicine for Uncle Bo. Bo Xichen turned his head. "We’ll be right there."

Old Mr. Bo grumbled a few words and left, looking somewhat disappointed.

When he had gone, Gu Anxi chuckled lightly. "Old Mr. Bo seems quite lonely."

Bo Xichen smiled. "Didn’t Father and Mother already win you over?"

She laughed, carelessly tossing the medicine aside before hugging him tightly. Bo Xichen patted her. "Alright, time for dinner."

She continued to cling to him, wanting more cuddles. He probably knew she was feeling down, so he coaxed her for a while, then changed his clothes and went to dinner. But he received a phone call mid-meal—

Mrs. Chu had taken an entire bottle of sleeping pills, one hundred in total. She was now at the hospital having her stomach pumped.

The call was from Chu Yan, her voice filled with helplessness.

Gu Anxi immediately put down her bowl. "I’m going to the hospital."

Bo Xichen held her hand. "I’ll drive you."

He had her finish her meal first. Then, he went to the Orchid Room to get a coat before taking her out. Old Mr. Bo had wanted to follow, but picturing the scene at the hospital, he decided against it and kept his mouth shut.

After they left, Mrs. Bo couldn’t help saying, "That Chu Yan child is truly pitiful. One can’t choose their family background."

Yet, blaming Mrs. Chu also felt too cruel. After all, she had endured her own hardships in her youth; one couldn’t entirely condemn her for being hard-hearted.

Bo Nianyao sighed, lit a cigarette, and smoked.

Old Mr. Bo looked from one to the other, feeling like he couldn’t get a word in...

「Meanwhile.」

Bo Xichen drove to the hospital quickly. Luckily, Mrs. Chu was rescued in time and was out of danger. However, everyone in the Chu family was in a somber mood.

Gu Anxi went over, gently pulled Chu Yan close, and softly comforted her with a few words. Then she looked at Chu Ci. "Can we talk alone for a minute?"

Chu Ci, who had been leaning against the wall smoking, put out his cigarette at her words and followed Gu Anxi into a small reception room. There was no one else there, so Gu Anxi spoke directly. "Chu Ci, the situation is that your mother will not agree to you two being together. Either you harden your heart and leave her in your father’s care, or... you let Chu Yan go."

Chu Ci looked pale. He took out another cigarette and slowly began to smoke.

Gu Anxi spoke calmly, "Being with Chu Yan, you should have anticipated this day. However, you probably didn’t expect your mother to resort to such extremes. Now, you only have two choices. You can only pick one of these two women."

Chu Ci looked at her.

Gu Anxi smiled gently. "Chu Ci, if I were you, I would give up on Chu Yan."

Chu Ci’s voice was incredibly hoarse. "I don’t want to give up."

"Then do you want her to face your mother’s suicide attempts over and over again?" Gu Anxi said, a touch of coldness in her voice. "If it reaches an irreversible point, not only will there be pain, but you will also end up hating yourself and Chu Yan."

She turned and left after saying this, leaving Chu Ci sitting alone in the small reception room, in complete silence.

Gu Anxi was right. If his mother died because of this, wouldn’t he hate himself? Then, how could he face Chu Yan?

Outside, as Gu Anxi walked out, Chu Yan looked at her, her eyes moist. She looked utterly pitiful.

Gu Anxi sighed softly. Neither Chu Ci nor Chu Yan were truly in the wrong. They just liked each other and wanted to be together. Mrs. Chu wasn’t wrong either. The only thing to blame was fate...

She went over, hugged Chu Yan, and said softly, "So, you’ve decided?"

Chu Yan was slightly taken aback. After a moment, she lowered her head. "Yes, I’ve thought it over."

Just as she finished speaking, Chu Ci emerged from the reception room, his gaze immediately meeting hers. After a long moment, he hoarsely uttered, "Yan Yan..."

He seemed to want to say something, but Chu Yan shook her head, stopping him.

In the end, Chu Ci said nothing more. Slowly, he walked into the sickroom.

Inside the sickroom, Chu Changhe was with Mrs. Chu. The ordeal had left him looking utterly dejected.

Chu Ci quietly stepped inside and closed the door.

Mrs. Chu was awake. As if knowing who had entered, she stared silently at the ceiling. "Chu Ci, you don’t need to come see me."

Chu Ci sat beside her, gently taking her hands. "Mom, I’m sorry," he whispered.

"You have nothing to apologize to me for," Mrs. Chu responded weakly, her voice faint. "You should apologize to your ’grand love.’"

As she spoke, tears trickled from the corners of her eyes.

When she first learned about Chu Yan’s background, and her son’s feelings for Chu Yan, she hadn’t wanted to keep the girl. But her ’good son’ had firmly told her to treat Chu Yan as his sister. And now? The whole world knew, all except her, the fool.

Thinking of this, Mrs. Chu’s voice became stern. "Chu Ci, you truly are my ’good son.’"

The past pricked at her like a dense cluster of needles; the memory alone was so painful she could barely breathe. After calming herself slightly, she said softly, "If you want to be with her, it will be over my dead body."

Chu Ci shook his head. "That won’t happen anymore."

Chu Changhe was taken aback.

He understood his son. He wasn’t someone who easily backed down or gave up. But now...

Chu Ci clutched Mrs. Chu’s hand. "I won’t be with Chu Yan anymore, Mom. I promise," he whispered.

His heart felt shattered as he said those words. After speaking, he stood up. "Please take care of yourself. I... I’ll send Chu Yan away."

Chu Changhe also stood up, his voice stern. "Chu Ci, where are you sending Yan Yan?"

Chu Ci’s expression was calm. "She’s over twenty now. She can take care of herself."

He looked at Mrs. Chu. "Don’t worry, I won’t secretly meet her again."

Chu Changhe wanted to say more, but Chu Ci had already opened the door and walked out. Once he left, Mrs. Chu burst into tears.

Outside, the atmosphere remained very oppressive.

Chu Ci slowly approached Chu Yan, his voice barely a whisper. "Come back with me."

Chu Yan raised her eyes, looking at him quietly.

Chu Ci managed a faint smile and reached for her hand, but Chu Yan pulled away.

She lowered her head. "Okay."

Chu Ci looked at his empty hand and gave a bitter smile, then tucked his hand into his pocket.

Gu Anxi held onto Chu Yan. "Yan Yan."

Chu Yan shook her head. "Anxi, I’m fine. I’ll contact you later." With that, she followed Chu Ci.

The atmosphere in the hospital corridor was oppressive, and no one uttered another word.

「Downstairs, in the parking lot.」

Chu Yan sat beside Chu Ci and asked softly, "What do you want to say?"

Chu Ci turned his head to look at her but said nothing. He started the car and drove back to the apartment they shared. Once inside, he slowly sat down on the sofa. Chu Yan sat opposite him, offering a faint smile. "I’ll go pack my things."

"Wait a moment," he said softly. "Yan Yan, please wait."

He stood up and gently embraced her.

Chu Yan didn’t move, her face buried against his chest. After a while, she repeated, "I’m going to pack my things."

Chu Ci didn’t release her, merely whispering, "No need to pack. I’ll move out."

This was his private apartment. The surroundings were excellent, and she had lived here for a long time. He wouldn’t make her move out.

Chu Yan closed her eyes. "Alright," she agreed softly.

Chu Ci lowered his head to look at her, but she turned her face away.

"Yan Yan, if you have to hate someone, hate me," he said hoarsely, gently wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes.

Chu Yan shook her head. She didn’t say anything for a long time, only ensuring she kept her distance from him.

Chu Ci quickly packed a few of his things and left, bag in hand.

When he reached the ground floor, he looked up at the lights in the apartment. He imagined her there. She was probably crying...
