Chapter 682: Chapter 683: Uncle, I miss you - 2800 words

Bo Nianyao rubbed his hands again and paced back and forth a few times before saying, "Eat slowly. If it’s not enough, Papa Bo will personally cook you another dish."

"That’s enough, that’s enough!" the little doll cried out, her mouth stuffed full.

Lady Bo scolded her lovingly, "Eat slowly, no one is going to snatch it from you."

Gu Anxi chuckled.

Lady Bo then looked at her husband, and Bo Nianyao understood.

Although their little one was tired, the young couple hadn’t seen each other for many days; they must have a lot to talk about. It wouldn’t be convenient for them to stay.

He coughed lightly. "Alright, your Mama Bo and I will head back first. You take good care of Xichen."

Gu Anxi hummed in acknowledgment. "Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of Uncle."

After Bo Nianyao and his wife left and were seated in the car downstairs, Lady Bo couldn’t help but say, "I heard Anxi flew a fighter jet today. It scared me to death."

Bo Nianyao chuckled. "Me too. That child is really a handful. Xichen needs to give her a good talking-to later."

Lady Bo glanced at her husband. "As if he’d have the heart to. He can’t dote on her enough as it is."

Bo Nianyao disagreed with that. "Doting is one thing, but she still needs discipline. That was far too dangerous."

Lady Bo said nothing. The mere thought sent a chill down both their spines. When they returned home, they lay in bed, silent. After a long while, Bo Nianyao sighed, "Go to sleep, Yun Er. It’s late."

Lady Bo’s eyes were still open. She spoke softly in the darkness, "Nian Yao, do you think Anxi might be taking on too much? Xichen has to go on missions at unpredictable times, year-round, and Anxi has to manage everything, both inside and out. She’s only twenty-one."

Bo Nianyao pillowed his hands behind his head. "It’s up to Xichen. Let him see if there’s someone suitable so he can step back later. It would be good if he helped Mr. Wang with his work in Beicheng, or even just became a regular doctor. He simply can’t keep running around like this anymore."

Lady Bo nodded. "Yes, you should talk to him when the time is right. This precious daughter-in-law of ours didn’t join the Bo Family to be worked like a horse."

Bo Nianyao turned his head, feigning surprise. "What are you saying, my dear? If our little one didn’t have such great abilities, could we be this proud?"

Lady Bo made a "Pfft!" sound and ignored the old rascal.

「Yunxi Hospital.」

After Gu Anxi finished eating, she automatically cleaned up. Looking up, she saw Bo Xichen quietly watching her.

"Uncle, why aren’t you sleeping?" She sidled up to him, carefully hugging one of his arms.

He looked down and said gently, "I thought you might have something to say to me."

The little doll let out a theatrical cry, resting her small face on his shoulder. "Uncle, I missed you." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

He continued to gaze at her silently, only speaking after a moment. "Don’t do that again, understood?"

The little doll knew he was referring to her flying stunt but pretended not to understand, continuing to act cute and hug him.

He repeated himself. She feigned annoyance. "I know, I know! Honestly, Uncle, you’re really becoming an old man, so naggy."

He pinched her soft, tender cheek, his voice slightly hoarse. "Who’s an old man, hmm?"

She yelped in mock pain. "OW, OW! You just got out of surgery, and you’re already bullying me! I want to go home!"

He, however, pulled her closer. "I haven’t slept for over twenty-four hours," he murmured. "Be good."

A pang of pain shot through Gu Anxi’s heart. She fell silent, merely hugging him.

After a long time, he whispered, "Anxi, do you regret it?"

She shook her head.

He seemed to want to ask something else, but she wouldn’t let him, cheekily covering his mouth. "No more talking, patient! Your doctor orders you to sleep now!"

He was torn between amusement and exasperation, but eventually, exhaustion won, and he fell into a deep sleep.

As it turned out, Gu Anxi slept even longer than he did. He woke up at seven in the morning, by which time family members and colleagues had already arrived. The little darling, however, was still sleeping soundly, her body curled to the side with only a wisp of black hair showing from under the blanket, the rest of her buried deep.

Wang Keru’s heart ached for her son-in-law. She shook her head. "This is just too much."

Gu Yuntian, leaning on his cane, laughed. "She learned it from you. If I hadn’t sent her to Beicheng for those tutorial classes, she’d probably be just like you now—playing cards and sleeping in."

Wang Keru was about to flare up, but Bo Xichen leaned against the headboard and smiled. "Actually, that doesn’t sound bad at all."

Gu Yuntian gave him a long look.

Wang Keru immediately felt that her care for her son-in-law hadn’t been in vain. She personally ladled soup and fed it to him. Bo Xichen had initially wanted to refuse, but considering his mother-in-law’s temperament, he accepted gracefully.

Feng Mian was also there, watching the scene with great amusement. He was itching to drag Gu Anxi out from under the covers to see if she’d be embarrassed—sleeping so late the sun was practically on her backside.

Lady Bo and Bo Nianyao also came. Everyone pretended not to see the sleeping child, even Director Hao who came to change the dressing. This was likely because everyone knew Gu Anxi wasn’t in robust health, and they all assumed she would probably sleep until noon.

Feng Mian was getting anxious. He wanted to ask her if Fengxi had played a role in the recent incident, and if Fengxi had remembered anything!

No matter how anxious he was, Gu Anxi didn’t wake up until noon, stretching lazily.

There were at least seven or eight people in the hospital room.

She covered her mouth and yawned, "Morning."

Min Xin’s face darkened. "It’s twelve noon."

Gu Anxi just "Oh"-ed, showing no particular reaction.

Zhou Yu had also arrived. She shot him a reproachful glance. "Anxi has been through a lot."

Min Xin, thoroughly rebuffed, fell silent.

Gu Anxi stretched, then climbed out of bed. After looking around, she spotted her uncle discussing something with King Jingyao, Zhou Yunchen, and a few others. Paying them no mind, she went straight to the small dining area where Lady Bo had prepared some delicious food.

She went over, practically drooling, and sneakily grabbed a piece. Lady Bo slapped her hand away. "You didn’t even wash your hands, you greedy little thing!"

The little doll ate it anyway, saying earnestly, "My hands are very clean! Besides, Uncle is injured!"

Lady Bo was momentarily stunned, then chuckled and scolded, "You naughty child, you’re becoming so mischievous! Where did you learn that from?"

The little doll answered quite honestly, "I learned it from Bo Xichen."

Lady Bo nodded. "That figures. Neither he nor his father are good influences. You should stay away from them in the future so you don’t pick up bad habits."

Her heart went out to their little one, so she secretly prepared a special small dish, Anxi’s favorite, and let her eat it alone first before the other dishes were ready for everyone.

The little doll sat next to Bo Xichen, eagerly helping her uncle with his food. Min Xin watched, amused. "Well, I’ll be. Putting others before herself for once."

King Jingyao grinned. "Don’t give her too much credit. She’s probably already stuffed herself from sneaking food earlier."

Gu Anxi glared at him. "That was also to take care of Uncle!"

"Tsk, tsk, listen to Miss Know-it-all here," King Jingyao teased her. "You only dare to bully us rough old sorts. The moment your uncle says anything, look how meek and mild you become."

The little doll, completely unabashed, replied, "I judge by looks."

Bo Xichen gave her an amused look but said nothing.

King Jingyao said frankly as he ate, "Xichen, I’m only giving you four days to recover. After that, you come out and help me. Min Xin and I are getting old. Min Xin, especially, has been trying to juggle too many things lately; his efficiency is really low."

Min Xin protested, "When have I been juggling too many things? I thought my stance was quite firm."

King Jingyao glanced at him. "Then you’re just getting old."

Min Xin rubbed his nose and said no more, then cast a subtle glance at Zhou Yu, who pretended not to see him.

Gu Anxi watched the two of them and snickered secretly.

Her uncle saw this and gave her hand a little pinch. "No mischief."

King Jingyao, seemingly oblivious to the glances exchanged between those two, continued, "Next, Bo Qing won’t just let this slide. He spent two years developing this projectile; he won’t give up after one setback. Also, Nian Yao, if you need help with anything at home, don’t hesitate to ask."

Bo Nianyao offered a faint smile. "Alright. If there’s a need, Nian Yao will certainly ask. But for now, I believe I can manage."

King Jingyao still had matters to attend to, so after the meal, he left with Wang Jingchuan.

Min Xin had intended to leave with them but hesitated, lingering at the door where he saw Zhou Yu.

Zhou Yu was just about to head back to the villa when she saw Min Xin approaching. Standing in front of her RV, she asked quietly, "Is there something you need?"

Min Xin hadn’t seen her for several days. His voice was low and soft. "Have you been alright recently?"

Before Zhou Yu could answer, he added, "Is the baby giving you any trouble?"

Zhou Yu shook her head. "Everything’s fine."

"Are you sleeping well?"

"Quite well."

Min Xin was suddenly at a loss for words. She was fine, eating well, sleeping well. It seemed he was the only one who wasn’t doing so well...

His eyes held a fervent hope. "Can I give you a ride?"

Zhou Yu shook her head, slightly flustered. "No need, the driver will take me."

Just as Min Xin was struggling for a response, Wang Yuan ran over, drenched in sweat, a distressed look on his face. "Sir, our car broke down! What do we do?"

Min Xin frowned. "How did it break down? I was just about to offer Zhou Yu a ride."

Wang Yuan chimed in, "It probably hasn’t been maintained for a while. What should we do? You have an important meeting soon. With the car broken down, someone of your status can’t possibly take a taxi back, can you?"

Min Xin glanced at the time, his lips pursed.

Zhou Yu, ultimately no match for these old foxes, spoke softly, "Then take my car. We can go to your office building first."

Min Xin feigned surprise, glanced at his watch again, then said decisively, "Let me take you home first. There’s enough time."

He then added tenderly, "You’re pregnant; your body is under strain. It’s not good for you to sit for too long."
