Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 627 - 628: Min Xin, the Fool, Falls into the Trap!
Min Xin was in a terrible mood. Seeing Zhou Yu clinging to King Jingyao’s arm as if they were a real couple, he suddenly felt an intense pang of jealousy.
When their eyes met, Zhou Yu’s gaze was as calm as still water, seemingly unbothered. Her words of blessing sounded sincere.
Min Xin’s hand slowly clenched into a fist. He wore a faint smile. "She’s just a companion, that’s all."
Zhou Yu simply responded with a slight smile.
At this moment, King Jingyao spoke up, "Brother Min is indeed very modest."
He hooked Min Xin’s shoulder, appearing utterly amiable, leaving everyone in the room stunned.
The standards of powerful figures were truly different, they thought. They could steal each other’s wives and still call each other brothers, so chummy it was as if they shared everything, even parents—truly remarkable.
Just then, King Jingyao’s gaze lingered on Song Jia for a few extra moments. The coolly stunning woman merely offered a disinterested smile, as if Gu Anxi’s earlier provocation meant nothing.
The noblewomen present felt a chill; this woman was clearly a vixen reincarnated.
Her ’Old Brother’ spoke, calling over his ’dear little sister,’ Anxi. "Anxi," he said, "you were rude to Miss Jia just now. For your brother’s sake, apologize to her."
Gu Anxi obediently went over and apologized sincerely, "Miss Song, I’m sorry. I was talking nonsense earlier. Please forgive me if I offended you."
Her apology seemed so genuine that the crowd was momentarily confused about her intentions. It took them a moment to figure it out.
Ah, they understood; it seemed Mr. Wang had taken an interest in Miss Song—a vixen reincarnated indeed!
Unwittingly, Song Jia had been set up again by Gu Anxi, labeled a ’vixen’ upon her very debut in Beicheng’s elite circles. However, Miss Song was no pushover; she was proficient in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Furthermore, she was an international film star recently returned from America.
When Wang Yuan, who was with Min Xin, introduced her, a wave of excitement went through the crowd. Song Jia instantly became a sought-after figure.
King Jingyao promptly abandoned Zhou Yu to share a dance with the radiant Miss Song. Mr. Wang’s expression was quite intriguing.
Min Xin, holding a wine glass, stood beside Gu Anxi. "See?" he said. "A man’s heart can change in an instant."
Gu Anxi looked at him strangely. "He’s not my husband. Shouldn’t you be saying that to Sister Zhou?"
Min Xin said coldly, "They’re faking it."
Gu Anxi drew out a long "Ohhh." "Is that so? Still, don’t rule out the possibility of them actually getting married. You should know the lengths my Old Brother will go to protect his position. Don’t provoke him. Your wife and child are in his hands. As for your Miss Song..."
She grinned. "My Old Brother has been quite lonely. This little ’dessert’ you’ve sent over... do you think he’ll partake or not? As for taking responsibility for her, that’s out of the question. Everyone knows my Old Brother is a bit of a philanderer."
Min Xin’s face darkened. "Aren’t you afraid that if he genuinely falls for Song Jia, she’ll replace you?"
Gu Anxi blinked her eyes, which sparkled brightly. "Why should I be afraid? Am I after my Old Brother for a few stalks of wild ginseng?"
Min Xin felt it was impossible to communicate with her any further; he was too furious to speak.
Gu Anxi, smiling, picked up her wine glass and sauntered over to Shen Congwen. The two of them leaned against a piano, chatting idly. It was quite pleasant, especially watching the sulking Gu Mingzhu, which she found quite amusing.
Gu Mingzhu had waited a long time for an opportunity to approach Min Xin. "Uncle Min."
Min Xin glanced at her and said coolly, "What is it?"
He was always aloof, and Gu Mingzhu was used to it. She said softly, "I’m thinking of inviting Miss Song to star in my next film."
Her movie, ’Pain of Youth,’ was selling very well and had a strong chance of winning awards. However, to elevate it further, she needed to cast internationally renowned actresses. Since Song Jia was famous overseas and associated with Min Xin, Gu Mingzhu immediately latched onto the idea.
Min Xin didn’t refuse outright, merely saying calmly, "We’ll have to see what she wants."
Gu Mingzhu visibly relaxed, offering a sweet, docile smile. "My mother is here too."
Min Xin gave a distracted smile, his expression practically screaming: I have no interest in Tang Yuan.
Fortunately, Gu Mingzhu was tactful enough to bite her lip and change the subject. "Gu Anxi was truly out of line just now. Miss Jia showed remarkable composure."
Min Xin glanced at her. "Weren’t you born of the same mother? Why are you so set against her?"
"I’m not!" Gu Mingzhu immediately denied it. "I just think Miss Song was an innocent party."
She carefully probed, trying to discern Min Xin’s feelings about Song Jia, but he remained indifferent, seemingly unconcerned by King Jingyao’s closeness with Song Jia. For a moment, she couldn’t understand it.
Over on the other side, King Jingyao, having finished his performance, returned to Zhou Yu’s side, acting remarkably gentle and considerate. Zhou Yu, for her part, didn’t seem to mind his earlier behavior and returned his smile. The scene was exceptionally harmonious.
Gu Anxi drifted over to Min Xin. "See? When you marry someone you don’t love, everyone makes compromises. If she can compromise with you, she can compromise with others. Really, don’t assume Sister Zhou can’t live without you. If she marries my Old Brother, at least he’ll treat her decently on the surface and won’t constantly anger her. When it comes to gentleness, you can’t compare."
Min Xin huffed, "Don’t try that on me. You think I’ll be scared?"
Gu Anxi chuckled. "You might not be scared, but..."
She smiled. "But right now, my Old Brother has no such intentions. If you anger him, though, I can’t guarantee he won’t turn this act into reality. So, before you try to harm anyone, think carefully about your wife and son, Mr. Min."
Min Xin’s heart skipped a beat. "What does he want?"
Gu Anxi smiled. "There are plenty of ways. Have a drink, take some ’medicine’, or perhaps on a dark and stormy night when the mood strikes... anything can happen."
She looked at him with an expression of pity. "Otherwise, why would he be so kind as to help you look after your wife and child?"
Min Xin gritted his teeth. "What if I give up Zhou Yu?"
"That..." Gu Anxi said softly, a hint of schadenfreude in her voice, "depends on what Sister Zhou thinks."
She tilted her head slightly, and with a lift of her chin, directed Min Xin’s gaze. He saw Zhou Yu standing there.
Her eyes were distant, her face devoid of expression, as if his words hadn’t hurt her at all.
Yet, he knew those words were like salt on the already thin ice of their relationship.
Min Xin instinctively wanted to explain, but Zhou Yu just gave a faint smile. "No need to explain. Really."
She added, "There’s nothing between us that needs explaining."
With that, she turned and left.
Min Xin watched her go, his eyes following her. She was always beautiful; even walking away so resolutely, she looked like a little fairy, distinct from everyone else.
Gu Anxi tutted. "TSK TSK TSK. You’ve angered her now, haven’t you, Mr. Min? You say one thing but mean another. My Old Brother is much better at coaxing women. If he decides to comfort her now out of pity, Sister Zhou might just be moved enough to fall into his arms."
"Think about it: his embrace is warm, my Old Brother isn’t bad-looking, he’s powerful—perfect for comforting a woman. If she cries on his shoulder, real feelings might even develop." Gu Anxi sighed with mock regret. "Look, Old Brother is going to her. It seems your Miss Song’s charm wasn’t quite enough, not very effective, huh?"
Min Xin’s face darkened.
He shoved Gu Anxi aside. "You did this on purpose!"
That was it. She had deliberately led him step by step into saying he would give up Zhou Yu, all perfectly calculated.
This despicable, shameless bastard!
She was cut from the same cloth as King Jingyao, and practically in cahoots with Zhou Yunchen!
Bo Xichen must be blind! The entire Bo Family must have been completely fooled by her!
Min Xin was seething. He strode quickly into the courtyard.
The moonlight flowed like polished silk.
In a small pavilion in the backyard, Zhou Yu stood, King Jingyao approaching from behind to place his hands on her shoulders. Then, just as Gu Anxi had predicted, his shoulders offered a comfortable rest, his embrace warm. Zhou Yu, her face tear-streaked like pear blossoms in the rain, presented a beautiful, sorrowful sight.
Min Xin’s mind exploded. He rushed forward, pulled them apart, and threw a punch at King Jingyao.
Zhou Yu froze.
Gu Anxi gently guided her to a safe spot, watching the two men fight ferociously, utterly speechless.
There was a pregnant woman here too; what if she got hurt?
She rolled her eyes, then let out a piercing scream.
People from the banquet hall rushed over, stopping dead in their tracks at the sight.
The two prominent figures were fighting like a pair of lions, especially Min Xin, whose eyes were bloodshot with rage.
His injuries having only recently healed, he was quickly overpowered and beaten quite badly.
The Secretaries-General of both sides were stunned, especially Wang Jingchuan.
Damn it, Wang Jingchuan thought. Fighting in the office last time was one thing, but brawling like this with so many socialites around? Was this spectacle over a wife and child really something to be proud of?
Both Secretaries-General tried to pull them apart, but to no avail. Gu Anxi chuckled, took a few steps forward, and said in a low voice, "Min Xin, your weakness has been exposed."
Min Xin’s body tensed. Slowly, he lowered his fists.
