Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 605 - 606: Mr. Min Wants to Establish a Magnanimous Image
Of course, Min Xin could not bear it, but he desperately wanted to go see her, even if it made him seem pathetic.
Aside from such public opportunities, any other attempt to meet her would likely be inconvenient and would only put her in danger.
Wang Yuan, the secretary, then added, "Mr. Wang also said he wants to celebrate properly."
His voice was rather subdued as he added, ’A lot of people are invited.’
Min Xin looked at him as Wang Yuan’s voice lowered further. "But actually, it’s good in a way. Now that Mr. Wang has acknowledged the child as his, the lady will be comparatively safer."
Min Xin stared at him for a moment before asking, "So, you think I don’t mind wearing this cuckold’s hat, do you?"
Wang Yuan suppressed a cough, not daring to respond, and just looked at his master.
After some thought, Min Xin finally said, "Alright, go."
Secretary Wang lowered his head even more. Had Mr. Min actually accepted this cuckold’s hat? He wanted to say something, but seeing Min Xin’s expression, he decided to keep his mouth shut... Oh, what a difficult situation for Mr. Min.
Min Xin closed his eyes, no longer in the mood for talking.
He had been a proud man his entire life; this was the biggest compromise he had ever made. As for the future, he hadn’t thought it through yet. Maybe sending Zhou Yu abroad was a good idea.
Having heard his instructions, Wang Yuan gathered the ultrasound report and some nutritional supplements, preparing to head to King Jingyao’s villa. Just as he was about to leave, Min Xin stopped him, "Wait a second."
Wang Yuan was surprised. "What’s wrong?"
Min Xin struggled to sit up. "I’ll go there myself."
The secretary was dumbfounded. "That won’t do! Your body can’t handle it."
"It’s fine. It’s just an external injury; it won’t kill me." Min Xin was already getting out of bed.
Wang Yuan stepped forward to help him, saying hesitantly, "It’s not that I’m trying to stop you from going, but it’s really inconvenient..."
He continued persuasively, "Think about it, the lady and the child both belong to Mr. Wang now, and you..."
Min Xin gritted his teeth. "Just consider it me visiting an old acquaintance!"
He let out a long sigh. "By the way, once King Jingyao makes the announcement, help me release a press statement too. Build up a magnanimous persona for me." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Wang Yuan cautiously asked, "What do you mean by a ’magnanimous persona’?"
Min Xin’s voice was tinged with coldness. "It means not holding any grudges and graciously wishing my ex-wife happiness in her new relationship."
Once again, the secretary’s worldview was shattered. Mr. Min is truly adaptable!
At this moment, Min Xin muttered to himself, "This kind of tactic... it’s Gu Anxi’s style. Hasn’t she always been this shameless?"
Wang Yuan thought, She might be shameless, but why are you stooping to her level?
Min Xin snorted lightly and threw on his coat. "Alright, let’s go."
He looked truly wretched—injured and pale, a far cry from his usual imposing and handsome self.
His secretary’s heart ached for him. He helped his master out, and thankfully, no one noticed them until they were safely in the car, at which point he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Min Xin sat down, a twinge of pain shooting through his shoulder. He let out a heavy breath.
"Are you alright, sir?" his secretary asked with concern.
Min Xin endured the pain and whispered, "I’m fine."
The secretary thoughtfully placed a cushion behind him for support and then took out a book. "This is the parenting manual you asked for."
Min Xin stared at the book in the dim light, somewhat lost in thought.
Even his expression was extremely tender.
The secretary, watching from the side, felt quite gratified. Even though the child is technically Mr. Wang’s, in reality, he belongs to our Mr. Min. Besides, Mr. Min seems to really like children! He said he didn’t want one before, but now he seems to genuinely embrace the idea.
He carefully attended to Mr. Min as the car drove to King Jingyao’s villa. The driver announced, "Sir, we’ve arrived."
Min Xin gave a slight nod and looked at Wang Yuan.
Wang Yuan got out of the car and spoke to the gatekeeper. Knowing it was Min Xin, the gatekeeper wouldn’t dare to stop him. He opened the gate and hurried to announce the arrival.
At that moment, Zhou Yu was resting in the courtyard. On an early summer afternoon, she was dozing on a swing. Her appetite had been poor lately, and the snacks placed before her remained untouched.
This was the scene that greeted Min Xin, and he couldn’t help but swallow hard.
Seeing this, Wang Yuan tactfully withdrew.
Min Xin slowly walked over, his gaze fixed on her greedily. He reached out, as if wanting to touch her, but just then, Zhou Yu woke up. Opening her eyes to see Min Xin, she instinctively shifted away. "What are you doing here?"
She looked around; they were the only two there.
Min Xin noticed the defensiveness in her eyes and smiled bitterly. "Are you that scared of me?"
"No." Zhou Yu lowered her gaze. "I’m just surprised. Weren’t you going to have Wang Yuan deliver these things?"
He stared at her slightly gaunt face and said softly, "I was bored at the hospital, so I came over."
His voice was hoarse. "Is the baby alright? Did you eat lunch?"
Zhou Yu shook her head. "I ate."
In truth, she had barely eaten a few bites. She couldn’t keep anything down and would vomit whatever she ate.
How could Min Xin not know?
He felt a pang of heartache but tried not to show it, managing only a faint smile. "That’s good. By the way, I brought some fruit. I’ll have someone prepare it for you later."
Zhou Yu looked troubled. "Min Xin, you really don’t have to be so nice to me."
He stared at her. "Is it because you don’t need this, or are you afraid I’ll keep pestering you?"
Zhou Yu remained silent, looking away. "Since we’re divorced, there’s really no need for us to be this close. It will cause gossip."
"Are you trying to protect King Jingyao?" His voice was hoarse.
She hummed in acknowledgment and looked at him quietly.
She thought he would get angry, because Min Xin was not known for his good temper. Throughout their twenty-year marriage, he had been quite unapproachable, except for the first year or two after they got married. He would always sulk over trivial matters, making her feel worthless, until her heart grew cold. Eventually, she realized it wasn’t her fault; he simply didn’t love her. Gradually, her love for him faded, and she stopped caring about his philandering. But now... his current behavior seemed like... he wanted to win her back?
Zhou Yu was never one to flatter herself. She could sense that Min Xin’s current focus was on her, but she didn’t understand...
"Min Xin, for years we didn’t love each other; we even detested each other," she said quietly. "Or do you think our divorce was just a game? That I would come back to you if you just snapped your fingers?"
