Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 339 - 340: Encounter with an Old Acquaintance
Bo Xichen spoke gently, "I can pretty much guarantee the operation. However, for the necrotic nerves, I hope we can replace them with new material rather than simply removing them."
Gu Anxi responded, "But there’s no technology for that anywhere in the world yet, is there?"
He hummed in agreement, then suddenly opened a nearby safe. A precision metal tube slowly rose from within.
Gu Anxi’s eyes widened.
It was a tube containing a red, blood-like substance. Inside, there were tiny blood vessels, each as fine as a hair, and they were moving...
The metal-rimmed tube was encased in a glass cover, and a chill emanated from within.
Bo Xichen looked at her. "My latest experiment. I’ve tried it on a rabbit, and it was successful."
Gu Anxi looked at him. "Why a rabbit? Why not Da Hui!"
Bo Xichen chuckled. "During the surgery, I shaved all the rabbit’s fur off."
Gu Anxi stared at him, then muttered quietly, "Uncle, you’re far too vindictive."
He chuckled, then said softly, "I’ll continue my research." He added in a low voice, "Anxi, I won’t perform this surgery unless I’m absolutely certain of success."
She nodded, then looked at him and said quietly, "Uncle, you’re brilliant."
Bo Xichen joked, "So, even our talented young friend has people she looks up to!"
She let out a whoop. "Yes! Aren’t you thrilled?"
"Extremely honored." He chuckled, pushing Gu Yuntian out with her.
Wang Keru saw them come out, her eyes lighting up. "Xichen, how’s Yun Tian?"
Her only hope now was that he would wake up. Even if he were disabled, as long as he could talk and move a little... that would be enough.
Bo Xichen smiled faintly. "He’s quite stable. Don’t worry."
Wang Keru exhaled in relief and stayed with Gu Yuntian.
Bo Xichen and Gu Anxi went to change their clothes, then discussed matters for a long time, completely forgetting about the several carloads of items Mrs. Bo had prepared.
Upon returning to the villa, the servants were unsure how to handle all the items. "Madam, you’re finally back! These things..."
Wang Keru went over to personally arrange them. Some items were put into storage, and fresh food ingredients were sent to the canteen. As for some of the non-essential yet expensive items, she decided to sell them after discussing it with Xichen and Anxi. The money would then be used to help some impoverished children have a good New Year.
The arrangements were made. Since the items were quite valuable, it wasn’t long before many people came, eager to buy them.
Gu Anxi and Bo Xichen spent an entire afternoon dealing with one cartload of goods, exchanging them for over a million.
Wang Keru also withdrew another million from the foundation. With the combined sum, they arranged for it to be distributed to two hundred impoverished families. She didn’t make a personal appearance or seek any spotlight for her actions.
「In the evening」
Gu Anxi and Bo Xichen strolled through the streets of Qingcheng. Gu Anxi sighed. "Looking at Mom now, she’s become so Zen; she’s just short of becoming a vegetarian."
Bo Xichen had his arm around her shoulder as they walked.
Although Qingcheng was a small city, the New Year’s atmosphere was vibrant. Lanterns adorned the main streets. As dusk settled, the lights flickered on, creating a bright and festive scene.
Gu Anxi was walking shoulder to shoulder with him when she suddenly stopped. Bo Xichen asked in a low voice, "What’s wrong?"
She gestured with her chin. Bo Xichen looked and saw Shen Wanqing and Qin Siyuan sitting face-to-face in a roadside café.
Shen Wanqing’s anxiety was palpable. She tried to touch Qin Siyuan, but he pulled his hand away.
"Wanqing, it’s impossible for us," Qin Siyuan said calmly.
Shen Wanqing looked haggard. "Siyuan, I broke up with him... He wasn’t as good as you. Can we start over?"
Shen Wanqing had endured many ups and downs over the past two months; life had been hard for her.
She had thought the Qin family was finished. But to her surprise, Qin Siyuan had quickly revived the Qin family from the brink of disaster. The man she had been with, a rich heir, grew tired of her not long after they got together, and his promise to support her further education vanished into thin air...
Soon, she was kicked out of the grand villa. Fortunately, Qin Siyuan had given her an apartment previously, so she didn’t end up homeless.
When she saw Qin Siyuan again, she seized the chance to beg him to take her back.
After all, they... had been intimate, hadn’t they? If she hadn’t initiated the breakup back then, Qin Siyuan wouldn’t have. And now that she was back...
Hearing her plea, Qin Siyuan’s expression grew even more indifferent. "We made a clean break, Wanqing. Find someone else. We’re not suited for each other."
Shen Wanqing was stunned. "Siyuan, I... I won’t be like that again."
Qin Siyuan spoke softly, "Wanqing, to be honest, men sometimes prefer more independent women—those who know how to protect themselves. That way, unexpected incidents are avoided. Besides, I prefer honesty."
With that, he pulled two one-hundred-yuan bills from his wallet and placed them under his cup. "That’s all. My secretary is waiting for me in the car."
Shen Wanqing blurted out, "That female secretary—you only keep her because she bears a slight resemblance to Gu Anxi, don’t you?"
"That has nothing to do with you, Miss Shen." Young Master Qin smiled, preparing to leave...
Just as Gu Anxi was about to step away, a fragrant breeze swept past. Like a gust of wind, Qin Siling stormed into the café and confronted Shen Wanqing, unleashing a verbal tirade that left Shen Wanqing defenseless. Finally, Qin Siyuan intervened, "Sis, that’s enough. Let’s go."
Still fuming, Qin Siling kicked the corner of the table. "Siyuan, you’re too soft! When our family was in trouble, she ran off with another man. Now that she’s been dumped and sees we’re doing well again, she comes crawling back, all smiles. Does she think it’s that easy?"
Qin Siyuan’s expression remained largely indifferent. "Alright, let’s go. Don’t we need to get to the hospital?"
He led Qin Siling away, but she still couldn’t vent the anger seething inside her...
Exiting the café, Qin Siling spotted Gu Anxi and Bo Xichen standing by the roadside.
Qin Siyuan’s gaze seemed distant. Qin Siling grew curious. "What are you looking at, Siyuan?" 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
She followed his gaze and was surprised to see Gu Anxi.
Qin Siling’s emotions were a tangled mess. She had despised Gu Anxi. When the Qin family faced ruin, she had resolved to support her parents’ family. She sold her jewelry, scraping together tens of millions to help her younger brother. But Siyuan had told her it wasn’t necessary; he had won around three hundred million from a bet. That money came from the Qingtian competition, where Gu Anxi, contestant No. 85, had won first place. Learning this had left Qin Siling with incredibly mixed feelings, and seeing Gu Anxi now only intensified that complexity.
The four of them stood facing each other. Finally, Gu Anxi broke the silence with a faint smile. "Happy New Year, Qin Siyuan."
The corners of Qin Siyuan’s mouth twitched, as if he were struggling to suppress strong emotions.
"Siyuan," Qin Siling reminded him softly, "don’t lose your composure."
Ultimately, Qin Siyuan managed to control himself. He gave a slight wave to Gu Anxi. "Happy New Year, Gu Anxi."
Then, turning to Bo Xichen, he said, "Professor Bo, Happy New Year."
"And to you both," Bo Xichen replied with a smile.
Qin Siyuan seemed to have matured considerably in just two months. He nodded, then walked away with his sister...
