Chapter 27: Revenge [ 1 ]

BANG!

"What?!" Arthur exclaimed, slamming his hands onto the table.

He shot up, shock etched across his face, a mix of fear and disbelief evident as beads of sweat trickled down his forehead.

"Get him back to the mansion, hurry!" he barked into the phone before abruptly hanging up.

Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he felt an icy coldness wash over him, mingling with a simmering rage.

"Oh! Oliver, Oliver, Oliver, you're really pushing my limits," Arthur muttered under his breath, lowering his head in frustration.

Moments later, he raised it again, cold determination flashing in his eyes. "System, I accept the mission," he declared quietly yet with an intensity that echoed through the room.

[Mission accepted. There is no time limit. Completion will earn the Host luxurious rewards.] The system's voice chimed in swiftly.

Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Arthur exited the study and descended the stairs.

In the living room awaited his second uncle Nathaniel, along with Richard, Margaret, and Emily.

They were all there, just four of them, while Ashley and others were absent for now.

Arthur nodded at them before sinking into the sofa as a tense silence enveloped the room.

Grim expressions painted their faces; Arthur's was particularly dark.

He hadn't anticipated that Oliver would start targeting other family members.

The very thing he feared most had come to pass, a reality that sent chills down his spine.

He couldn't bear to lose another family member; he simply couldn't take that risk.

Clenching his fist so tightly that his knuckles turned white, he stewed in anxiety.

Suddenly, the roar of engines pierced through the silence from outside.

All eyes darted toward the door as several figures entered: his first uncle Julian accompanied by four bodyguards.

Everyone let out a heavy sigh of relief, smiles breaking across their faces.

Emily, her eyes still red from tears, exclaimed, "Big brother!"

Without hesitation, she dashed into Julian's arms, hugging him tightly as sobs wracked her body.

"Come on, Emily! You're a grown woman now, stop crying! I didn't get hurt or anything," Julian reassured her, gently patting her back.

"I already lost one brother; I can't bear to lose another!" Emily choked out between sobs.

The room was thick with emotion. The others exchanged glances with Julian; they too had lost a brother and shared the same fear.

When they received news of Julian's assassination attempt, terror gripped them all. They dropped everything and rushed to the mansion.

"Uncle, are you okay?" Arthur finally asked after taking a deep breath. Guilt flickered in his eyes.

"Yeah, Arthur, I'm fine, thanks to the bodyguards you assigned to me. If it weren't for them, I'd be dead right now," Julian replied with a smile.

"We need to put a stop to this! Otherwise, we won't have peace, and our entire family is in danger," Nathaniel declared grimly.

"You're right," Richard chimed in from the side. "We need to dig deeper and find out who's behind this. It's time we take matters into our own hands."

The others nodded in agreement, their expressions reflecting a shared resolve.

Margaret spoke up, her voice trembling with urgency. "This person targeting our family has now set their sights on the remaining members. First it was big brother, then Arthur, and now second brother. If we don't act soon, who will be next? Me? Fourth sister? Fifth sister? Or even all of us?"

A heavy silence fell over the living room as everyone exchanged worried glances.

Anger simmered beneath the surface; they could no longer go about their lives normally without fear looming over them.

"Everyone, don't worry," Arthur said suddenly, his face serious. "I've already figured out who's targeting us. I'll handle it, I promise."

Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked upstairs.

"Arthur..." Emily called after him but was silenced by Julian's gentle shake of his head.

They all sighed heavily, sharing a moment of unspoken concern.

BANG!

Arthur slammed his fist onto the table as he entered the study room again.

His face contorted with rage as he clenched his fists tightly; his eyes burned red with emotion.

He pulled out his phone and dialed a number urgently. "Come to the study room now." He hung up abruptly and sank into a chair, lighting up a cigarette with shaky hands.

The thought that his first uncle had nearly died weighed heavily on him, if not for the bodyguards' quick reaction, it could have been catastrophic.

Guilt washed over him like ice water; if only he had accepted that system mission earlier!

Oliver had begun targeting his family directly, today it was his first uncle who survived... but what about tomorrow or next week?

No one is currently safe while Oliver and the Sterling Family were still breathing.

Arthur felt a wave of dread wash over him as he thought about his first uncle.

If anything were to happen to him, the guilt would haunt him for the rest of his life.

Losing a family member was a fear that gripped him tightly; after all, in his previous life, he had no relatives left after his parents died.

It was only when he joined the Osborn Family that he experienced what it truly meant to have a family again. Now, that precious feeling was under threat.

He had the resources and strength to protect them, yet today, because of his cowardice, someone close had nearly lost their life.

Just then, there was a sharp knock on the door.

Silvester entered the study room with military precision and stood at attention before Arthur's desk, his expression serious as ever.

Arthur took one last drag from his cigarette, exhaling a thick cloud of smoke as he locked eyes with Silvester.

"I have a mission for you," Arthur said in a gravelly voice.

"I want you to exterminate the entire Sterling Family. Don't leave anyone alive, do you understand?" His gaze bore into Silvester's.

"Yes, I understand," Silvester replied solemnly.

"Good. I expect news of their death to be front-page headlines by tomorrow," Arthur stated coldly.

"I promise to complete the mission, Boss," Silvester affirmed with determination in his voice.

"Good. You can go." Arthur waved dismissively as Silvester bowed and quickly exited the study room, leaving Arthur alone in the dim light.

He glanced at his phone; trending across various news platforms was the attempted assassination of his first uncle, a topic sparking heated discussions online.
