Chapter 302: Grandmaster II

Just then, a massive amount of essence exploded from his body. The frost essence hit them like a hammer to the head. The pressure from it was so high that Commander Petel and Svenjar screamed in pain as they were roughly shoved to the ground.

It felt as if tons of metal were being piled around them and inside their bodies. The pressure on them was so high that they felt their heads might explode.

Even the Master Knights were not unaffected. Their backs were hunched, and their teeth gritted as they tried to resist.

But the essence that came out of the Grandmaster Knight wasn’t only for show. Frost began to cover the area, spreading rapidly and freezing everything in its path.

The ground began to creak and pop, and the air became very crisp and frigid.

But the biggest effect was on the other Knights. The cold seeped into their bodies and coiled around their limbs, turning them slow and heavy to move.

Their limbs wouldn’t even obey them, and everything had slowed down around them. Valtor realized with a start that the frost was trying to freeze him into a block of ice!

’...The gap between a Master Knight and a Grandmaster is this big? That’s too much difference!...’

The Grandmaster now hovered in front of them. The man was dressed in a black tattered robe. "I always think this place is filled with bandits and outlaws like the untamed lands. But to think you are actually forming yourself into Clans and such! You are even fighting for lands. It was cute.

"Like watching rodents play. Ah, or children play make-believe. Maybe when you guys are ready, you will join the rest of civilization."

Valtor was busy trying to get his body not to freeze to reply.

The Grandmaster then stared down on them as if he was looking at the animals to buy in the market. His perception fell down on them like a slap to the head, and they felt naked beneath him. He stroked his mustache. "Hum. You lots are good seedlings. It’s like that here, huh?

"Where you put different poisonous worms in a jar and then let them fight. The ones remaining standing will then be the lords and kings of poisonous worms.

"You guys aren’t bad. At the very least, you’ll make good guards. But let me finish my work here. Maybe I’ll put in a good word for you, if I ever remember."

A sludge of frost and ice lifted Svenjar’s half-frozen body up towards the Grandmaster, and he gripped him by the neck, pulling his head out as if he was uprooting a weed.

The neck popped, and the bones snapped. Blood splattered the ground, and all they could do was stare in shock at Svenjar’s head, now in the man’s hand.

The Grandmaster threw the body and the hand down and let out a sigh. "I wonder why the man used his favor to collect this. He could have used it for some special resources for his Clan. Oh well, I’m off now."

And then, true to his word, the man flew away so fast they didn’t see him move. Only the shockwave that he left behind blew them to the ground.

The pressure left them, and they groaned as they stood up.

Pomora stared at the body and then at Valtor. "What just happened?"

Valtor groaned and moved his body fast to remove the cold. "A Grandmaster Knight, that’s what happened," he said grimly when he looked at the body of young Master Svenjar.

Pomora turned to help Commander Petel to her feet, and the shivering Commander looked at the body. Almost as one, the three looked at the Master Knight woman who was staring dumbly at the body.

"Y... Young Master Svenjar?"

"Ah, shit," Valtor said as he realized the implications of what just happened and that it happened just because of it.

The Master Knight woman didn’t say anything more. She simply removed Svenjar’s ring and then stored his body in it. Then she began to walk towards the open portion of the gate.

They watched her go, no one saying anything. When she reached the gate, she suddenly turned to them and smiled. Then she was gone, blurring into the Akatsuki territory.

They stared at where she was and knew what the smile meant.

It was trouble.

Valtor groaned. "This wasn’t at all how I expected this day to go. Just what happened? A Grandmaster? How is that possible? Just how?"

That seemed to jolt everyone back to their senses. Pomora created a water platform and flew to investigate the gate.

Meanwhile, Commander Petel began to shout into her necklace, ordering the army to be ready for trouble and that they should bring her papers so she could prepare a report.

Valtor grimaced. "This is exactly what the Clan Leader was trying to avoid. Just how did we get here? Shit. Shit!"

He shuddered. "This is really not good. At all."

The Grandmaster was in a rocky ground, small stones scattered around him. His back was turned to the person kneeling. "My Lord."

The Grandmaster snorted. "Lord? I am no lord. In fact, your Clan Leader is probably more of a lord than I am. Just call me Grandmaster."

The person he was talking to was an older man as well. He was composed, and his eyes shone a faint purple. "Grandmaster Litos. Have you really completed it?"

The Grandmaster nodded. He looked curiously at the man, rubbing his beard. "Why do you use the small favor we owe your family this way?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Because I know your Clan, no offense, has no thoughts of granting that favor unless it benefits them."

The Grandmaster smiled, but there was only coldness in it. "Do you dare to say you understand the thoughts of my Clan?"

The purple-eyed old man bowed. "I wouldn’t dare. But I know it’s their wish to continue seeing the Hinterlands like we are now."

Grandmaster Litos laughed. "I am the Overseer for the Hinterlands this time. My Clan simply wants to reap more benefits than the other Clans before it’s their time again.

"Now stop pestering me. I shall not interfere again. Only the favor made me move in the first place."
