Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Ending Naomi Sawyer

Serena Sawyer’s fingertips dug into her palm, yet she forced herself to maintain a calm expression.

She watched as Timothy Xavier made several phone calls, instructing his assistant, hiring a private detective, and even contacting his connections in the police department.

She was both angry and scared, her heart tumbling in her chest like an ant on a hot pan.

Seeing Timothy Xavier return to his study, Serena Sawyer also went back to her room, closing the door and windows tightly, and made a phone call.

Declan Ellison, thrilled to receive a call from his beloved, immediately said, "Serena, you finally reached out to me. Are you free to go out today?"

"I need you to do something for me," Serena Sawyer lowered her voice, but it still trembled. "Naomi Sawyer is back. You must find her before Timothy does. Better yet... find someone to get rid of her without a trace."

Declan Ellison paused and said, "How did she come back? You said before she wouldn’t dare return, right?"

Serena Sawyer gritted her teeth, "I don’t know either, but now she’s not only in Veridia but has appeared in front of Timothy Xavier. I wonder if she’s doing it on purpose? But I think she is. She already knew what my mom and I did back then. If Timothy finds her, I’m done for!"

Declan hesitated.

He didn’t want to spend the time and energy finding a woman who had nothing to do with him.

He said, "Serena, if Naomi Sawyer is back with Timothy Xavier, isn’t that a good thing? Zoe won’t be tangled up with him anymore, and you can be free. Then, we can be together openly."

Hearing this, Serena Sawyer gritted her teeth and said, "Declan Ellison, your sister got me into this situation, and you’re still thinking of her? Don’t forget our grand plan. I still haven’t gotten the resources from Timothy’s computer. All those client preferences and secrets are in his computer. Once you have them, won’t the Ellison Group shine?"

Declan Ellison felt his rationality and emotions tearing at each other.

Rationality told him that Timothy Xavier had gained such resources and clients by holding their lifelines and weaknesses, which was how he had led the Xavier Group to stable yearly growth. Only with Serena Sawyer by his side would there be a chance to get those things.

But emotion told him that Serena Sawyer was his woman, and every time he thought of her having to play nice with Timothy Xavier for these external things, he was deeply troubled.

Seeing Declan Ellison hesitate for so long without responding, Serena Sawyer said, "Declan Ellison, do you really not care if I live or die? If Timothy Xavier finds out what my mom and I told Naomi Sawyer, do you think he’d let me walk away unscathed? Do you think you could be with me then? Only when you become stronger and crush Timothy Xavier beneath your feet can we be together openly."

Declan finally made up his mind and said, "Fine, I’ll do as you say. I’ll find a way to locate that woman as soon as possible, but... let’s not get involved with a murder. I can find a way to make her leave Veridia. After all, she’s your sister from the same father."

Serena silently cursed Declan for being gutless, but she had no other choice now.

Declan Ellison was the only one she could trust to do anything for her wholeheartedly.

...

In the mall.

After Timothy Xavier left the jewelry store, Jenna and I followed him closely, our steps quick, hoping to catch sight of Naomi Sawyer.

One thought kept circling in my mind: Timothy’s first love, Naomi Sawyer, really was back. This time it wasn’t by accident that Timothy saw her; it was probably deliberate. If he really got back with her, there’s no way he’d go through with our absurd wedding.

To find out where Timothy and Naomi are, we also wanted to check the surveillance footage.

Jenna, a VIP client at this mall, made a call and quickly got in touch with someone in charge.

But when the surveillance staff told us, "Today’s footage was hacked and is all gone," I felt a cold shiver race up my spine, instantly chilling me to the bone.

How many times has this happened now?

Every time something involved Naomi Sawyer, crucial clues would disappear for some reason, as if an invisible hand was orchestrating everything from behind the scenes.

Jenna was clearly reminded of what I’d told her before.

She instantly grew anxious, raising her voice a few notches to ask, "Where’s Timothy now? He can’t have just vanished into thin air!"

The staff hesitated, uncertain, and said, "President Xavier... President Xavier seems to have left the mall, about ten minutes ago."

We left the surveillance room with nothing. Jenna gritted her teeth and cursed, "That bastard, always leaving you alone. He did it before, and he’s doing it again now! Whenever there’s something happening, you’re always the one left behind!"

Though Jenna never approved of my marriage with Timothy, she saw all the tug-of-war and grievances between us over the years.

Her anger was not for any other reason but out of pain for me, repeatedly being ignored and left behind.

Watching her stand up for me, I felt a mix of bitterness and warmth in my heart.

I comforted her instead, "Don’t be angry. I think this could be a good thing. Now that Timothy has found Naomi Sawyer, maybe... his focus will quickly shift away from me."

Jenna paused for a moment, then frowned, "Are you so sure? What if Naomi Sawyer is shameless like her sister, and is willing to be Timothy’s mistress? What if he continues to retaliate against you and Julian? Don’t forget, he hid Naomi for so long back then. You found Serena back then but couldn’t find Naomi."

I looked out at the bustling street outside the mall, a hint of anxiety fleeting through my mind.

Jenna wasn’t necessarily wrong. I never understood how Timothy’s mind worked.

Much of what he did was beyond my understanding.

Jenna let out a heavy sigh, her voice filled with frustration on my behalf, "I just can’t swallow this! Why does Timothy get to be so fickle? He gets to do whatever he wants, yet still keeps tabs on you; what kind of logic is that!"

She became more agitated the more she spoke, her eyes reddened with anger, "You finally meet someone like Attorney Sinclair who truly cares for you, and yet, Timothy insists on forcing you into marriage. Now, just as Naomi Sawyer appears, he chases after her like a dog with a bone, leaving you here—what does that even mean?"

I felt a slight pang of melancholy, mixed with a sense of detachment as I replied, "There’s no such thing as fairness or reason everywhere. I’m past caring about these things. Right now, I just want to know where Naomi Sawyer is. Once Timothy finds her, I’ll be completely free. Who knows, maybe he’ll be the one begging me for a divorce then."

Jenna’s eyes lit up instantly upon hearing this, "Let’s find Attorney Sinclair! Last time, when you were sold to Burona under such complex conditions, he managed to get you out unscathed—finding one Naomi Sawyer should be a breeze for him!"

This time, without the slightest hesitation, I agreed immediately.

It was better to take initiative than anxiously waiting for "rescue."

I pulled out my phone and quickly dialed Julian Sinclair’s number.

The phone rang for a long time before it was answered, and his low, gentle voice came through the receiver.

The tension within me eased a bit, even my voice lightened as I recounted the entire incident of discovering Naomi at the mall today.

He was silent on the other end of the phone for a moment before slowly speaking, "Alright, I understand. I’ll find a way to investigate."

After a pause, his voice softened a little more, "Rest assured. Even if we can’t find Naomi Sawyer for now, the things you’re worried about definitely won’t happen. Zoe, I’m always behind you."

He never spoke about love or affection, but those words just now were enough to make my nose tingle with emotion.

I gave a heavy "mm" and said, "I know, I’ll take good care of myself. You... take care too."

After hanging up the phone, the warmth of the device lingered in my palm, and the stone hanging in my heart finally mostly settled down.

...

On the other side.

In the silver Bentley Continental, Julian Sinclair’s hand holding the phone unconsciously tightened, his gaze falling on the woman beside him.

Naomi Sawyer had not yet recovered from the shock she experienced earlier.

Because she had just discovered someone was tracking her, she wasn’t sure if it was Timothy Xavier’s people or Ethan Xavier’s people? 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

If she hadn’t encountered Julian Sinclair meeting a client here, who knows what situation she might be facing now?

Naomi Sawyer glanced gravely at the rearview mirror, luckily, the stalker’s traces were no longer there.

She took a deep breath, turned, and moved to push the car door: "Thank you very much today, Attorney Sinclair."

"Wait."

A deep voice suddenly sounded, and Naomi Sawyer’s motion to push the door halted suddenly, the doubt showing in her eyes as she turned back: "Is there anything else, Attorney Sinclair?"

Julian Sinclair’s gaze landed on her tense shoulders, and he spoke word by word: "I’ve known Ethan for many years, even if you don’t agree to my previous conditions and refuse to return to be the bait, I’d still help him. Timothy Xavier’s obsession with you is not recent, if you really go back, it’ll be difficult for you to escape again."

Naomi Sawyer’s heart sank sharply.

She had long known Julian Sinclair to be deeply shrewd, usually men from his kind of family background who reach such positions, do not have any laughable sympathy or empathy.

She didn’t quite believe Julian Sinclair was thinking for her sake.

So, she warily looked at him and asked, "So, Attorney Sinclair, do you have other conditions now?"

She was prepared to face various conditions, but did not expect Julian Sinclair to continue: "After talking with you that day, I thought for a long time. If the cost of saving Zoe is throwing you into the fire pit, she wouldn’t forgive me if she knew in the future."

"..."

Naomi Sawyer gazed at him in a daze, slowly relaxing her brows after a long time, and a relieved smile appeared on her lips.

It turned out Zoe hadn’t chosen the wrong person, this man’s concern at this moment was more reassuring than any promise.

Her sister will be happy in the future.

Julian Sinclair saw her silence, assuming she had tacitly agreed to not return to Timothy Xavier.

After all, having experienced betrayal and being confined in a mental hospital, no one would want to experience it again.

He continued, "Miss Sawyer, I could feel that day you have Ethan in your heart. If Zoe knew you are her biological sister, she would also wish for your happiness."

Naomi Sawyer paused, then asked, "And what about you and Zoe? Are you just going to watch Timothy Xavier harm her like a madman?"

"I’ll help Zoe sue for divorce; the evidence chain is complete. As long as you are willing to testify in court."

Julian Sinclair spoke with certainty, "Once the public knows about Timothy Xavier’s actions, the means he used to trap Zoe with public opinion will naturally be ineffective."

Complex emotions surged in Naomi Sawyer’s heart.

"Attorney Sinclair, I must return to Timothy Xavier. My sister, my mother, and I, the three of us have been harmed by him."

Her voice carried a suppressed sob, yet every word was resolute: "My mother died because of him. Tell me, how can I not settle this score? Merely testifying in court and ruining his reputation is too lenient, it’s simply not enough."

Julian Sinclair only then realized that Naomi Sawyer returned to Timothy Xavier not just for Ethan Xavier.

She wanted to seek justice for her mother, her sister, and her former self.

Julian Sinclair felt a chill spread through his heart; he was not of a benevolent heart, and wouldn’t arbitrarily insert himself into other’s vendettas.

If Naomi Sawyer weren’t Zoe Ellison’s biological sister, he wouldn’t have repeatedly made exceptions for her choices.

But now that her mind was made up, he ultimately had no standing to stop her.

After a long pause, Naomi Sawyer broke the silence first.

Her tone was calm yet undeniably firm, "Attorney Sinclair, I know you mean well, but I have my path to walk. We will proceed as originally planned; for now, I don’t want to recognize Zoe or let Timothy Xavier realize my true intentions."

Julian Sinclair looked at her tense yet straight back, refrained from further persuasion, and just nodded lightly: "Then be careful."

Naomi Sawyer nodded slightly, saying, "Attorney Sinclair, there’s one more thing I’d like to trouble you with. I found someone tracking me earlier, could you help me check the stalker’s information, otherwise I always feel uneasy."

"Alright."

Julian Sinclair agreed, saying, "I will have someone protect you in secret recently, even if you are truly being followed, there is no need to fear danger."

"Thank you."

After expressing her gratitude, Naomi Sawyer opened the car door and got out.

She hailed a cab back to her current residence.

It was also a relatively secluded villa in Veridia owned by Katherine Sheldon.

As soon as she arrived home, she saw Ethan Xavier sitting on the living room sofa with a somber face.

Naomi Sawyer suddenly froze, not yet having figured out why he had such an expression, Ethan Xavier stood up and walked straight towards her, gripping her wrist with a force strong enough to almost crush her bones.

Naomi Sawyer was dragged by him all the way into the bedroom, followed by a "click" as the light sound of the door lock falling echoed especially loudly in the silence.

The Ethan Xavier before her was so unfamiliar it made her uneasy.
