Chapter 338: Our Agreement

—-

"Madeline and Sir Cassian are planning a campfire tonight." Samantha broke the information to Ivan when he stepped into the tent later on. There was a medium-sized towel hanging around his neck, and his hair appeared disheveled and wet, a sign that he had washed his face and hair after complaining that he looked ridiculous with tears in his eyes.

When he regained himself, he refused to make eye contact with her, as if embarrassed, and Samantha couldn’t help but find his reaction cute, as this is the first time she was seeing her husband grow flustered in her presence. The colors on his face returned, and Samantha felt extremely relieved to see him act like his usual self again.

His crimson eyes looked her way from where he stood, and if she wasn’t hallucinating, she could swear she saw his upper cheekbones tint into the softest shade of pink.

"A campfire?" He finally delved into the topic.

"Yes, she wants us to be a part of it." Samantha added thoughtfully as she folded the fabrics lying on her bag.

When she was done, she made her way to Ivan and threw her arms around his neck, whilst earning her a tender smile that nearly elicited a nosebleed. If only she didn’t have such a breathtaking husband, even his vulnerable state was another memorable moment she would never forget, and she felt their bond had grown stronger, knowing she was the second person to see him like that, asides Alistair.

"I... I think a little relaxation is what we all need, and a little distraction with everyone won’t hurt... or what do you think?" She looked at him with no foul intention in mind, but when he kept looking at her with a dreamy stare, she took the towel around his neck and draped it on his head, covering that look that was starting to make her knees weak.

"Are you even listening to me?"

"Not at all." He answered truthfully, taking away the towel from his face, "when I have a wife who is beautiful inside and out, it’s hard to concentrate, but I’ll listen for real this time. What did you say again?"

"Gosh I said..." and just like that, Samantha could hardly remember what she had previously said to him. Her face became red with embarrassment after figuring out his intention. "You did this on purpose!"

Ivan didn’t deny when she pointed an accusatory finger at him, and Samantha tried to clear her thoughts before saying, "I said, spending time with everyone and indulging in a little distraction won’t hurt."

"Hmm... but you are my distraction." Ivan grabbed her waist and pulled her closer to his body, his eyes boring into hers in ways that made her want to melt into a puddle. His gaze lowered to her lips, and that made him bite his own before lifting his eyes to meet her green ones.

"All I need," he grabbed her face gently, "is to be in your arms, to kiss your perfect lips, and look deep into your beautiful eyes. What’s more distracting than that?"

"What?" She said breathlessly.

Samantha swallowed her anticipation, and her eyes closed when his fingers moved away the strands of hair from her face.

"What do you want to do?" He asked, "my little lamb?"

"Anything..." she hesitated, but Samantha lost her breath when he nuzzled his face against the curve of her neck.

"There are so many things I can do to you." He whispered, "be more specific before I make my choice."

Samantha’s heart quickened, "kiss me then."

Ivan’s eyes lit, his smile broadened, and he kissed her passionately on the lips without hesitation, sending electric sparks through her nerves. He lifted her off the ground, her legs wrapping his waist as he fulfilled her needy request.

Every thought in Ivan’s brain had been stripped out and replaced by the woman whose kisses brought healing to his heart. The taste of her mouth, and the heat of her breath made him see a world of colors shimmering within his closed eyes, and whenever he felt he was capable enough to pull away and tell her the three most important words, his brain failed to string any thoughts together.

The heat between them rose, and neither was willing to pull away. Samantha hardly realized when he laid her on the sleeping bag. She moaned in satisfaction into his mouth, and it felt as if they were making up for the times they had to be apart, the times they needed each other, all those longing and sensual dreams they had about one another.

Pulling away so they could both catch their breaths, their eyes were locked in a deep stare, breaths heavy.

"Why did you stop?" Samantha asked, looking unsatisfied, but the vampire tilted his head at her, almost teasingly.

"You wanted a kiss, didn’t you? I was obligated to fulfill your request. You’ll get nothing more, and nothing less." He kissed her cheek before pulling away. That made Samantha sit up with a look of frustration building up in her gaze. Was he really going to end everything like this?

"Wait, you’re leaving?"

"I need to check on Herbert and Caddel." He answered, deliberately ignoring the look of alarm in her eyes. "I left them with a task, and I need to look into the progress. The sooner I deal with the matters here, the quicker it’ll be for us to return to GreenHollow."

Adjusting his outfit, he looked at the displeased woman. "What’s with the look?"

"Nothing." She folded her arms and averted her gaze elsewhere. Ivan hid his smile and shrugged.

"If there’s nothing then I shall take my leave. See you soon, my love." And he left, but not after leaving his warm imprint on her forehead.

"Your Majesty," Lucy carefully approached Duncan in his tent. His eyes moved to the young woman who kept her gaze on the ground, and she said, "well... uhm.. I’m here to seek your permission to be with her Highness for the whole of today... if it’s okay with you of course."

"You mean Samantha?" He inquired, sounding like he had no idea who she was referring to, and Lucy nodded politely.

"I haven’t had the chance to be with her since yesterday, and I..."

"You can go to her." He agreed, looking away from her and turning his attention to the parchment in front of him. "I won’t be needing your services for the meantime, so you can attend to her. Though, you should spend as much of your time as you can with her, cause you won’t be seeing her for a long time."

"Huh? I won’t?" Lucy blinked cluelessly, "I don’t understand."

"You said you wanted to find Samantha, and now that she’s back, you have no other option but to come with me to my Kingdom, as per our agreement." He dropped his quill and turned to look at the flustered Lucy, his beguiling gaze slicing through her own.

"Lucienne Devoir, did you by chance forget our agreement?"
