Bride To His Darkness-Chapter 321: Sudden Interest
Chapter 321: Sudden Interest
Carmela knew she had feigned prowess in front of Marius, but deep inside her soul, she was anxious to stand face to face with the vampire King from the North. She had taken at least three guards with her, just in case her power becomes futile and he tries to act otherwise. For Marius to drop a little warning on her path, she knew better than not to watch her words carefully.
Currently, she was having a blistering headache after that conversation with the human orb. She had let her emotions slip in an attempt to prove a point, she was careless with her statement, and she was grateful that they hadn’t pushed it further, else, she would have been forced to reopen old wounds.
The door to the vault was twisted open by the guard who had fetched her earlier, and with a series of deep breaths, she walked in. The air was thick with the scent of mystic wards, a little mist she had created to keep the vampire in place, whilst her eyes adjusted to the vault’s dimness.
When she ventured further with her guards trailing dutifully behind her, Alistair stepped aside, and Carmela’s hazel eyes beheld the chained vampire King, his imposing figure outlined by a faint, eerie glow coming from the burning torches.
It was quite unbelievable that a mere human orb would have such a captivating taste in men, it felt inexplicably disturbing, and that made Carmela feel more dubious about the lady’s origin.
Frankly speaking, she hadn’t anticipated the arresting handsomeness that greeted her.
His dark, tousled hair framed his face to the length of his neck, a stark contrast to the paleness of his glistening skin, whilst they accentuated the raw allure of his presence. Chains clinked softly as the vampire lifted his head to gaze at her like an intruder, and Carmela found herself momentarily captivated by the intensity of his crimson eyes– they glared with a mix of defiance and allure, holding a depth that stirred something within her.
She understood why Marius had asked if she could handle him. The vault felt all the more suffocating as time passed them by, but it wasn’t due to the lack of air, but it was specifically because of the compelling aura emanating from the vampire in front of her.
She shook off her surprise and immediately composed herself.
"So, the infamous Vampire King," she declared, her tone a blend of determination and curiosity. "I must admit that you look... rather pathetic in chains. Have you come all the way to get your wife back?" She sneered, her voice dripping with disdain as she folded her arms, but the vampire in front of her cocked his head slightly, unable to discern who the hell was in front of him, but after eyeing her outfits, jewelries and the three guards strategically poised behind her, it made sense.
"Ah... I see." His crimson eyes seemed to penetrate her own as he came to the conclusion, "Queen of the South, I assume. What brings you to my abode?"
"Don’t play trivial games with me." She retorted sharply, "you of all people should be aware that you have meddled in my affairs for too long, and your cup has finally been filled. I was curious to meet this one vampire who keeps getting in the way of my plan, and now that we have crossed paths, I’m afraid our encounter will not end well."
As she circled Ivan, she couldn’t help but notice the refined features that seemed to defy the limits of a person’s charm. There was an undeniable elegance in his demeanor, regardless of the sweat and chains, and it was disconcerting, to say the least.
"why do you persist in meddling with forces beyond your understanding?" Her eyes momentarily lingered on his piercing ones as she stated. "The southern coven craves dominance, and your demise will pave way for our ascents. Once past you, it will be easier to access the rest of the borders."
"This is more than dominance, isn’t it?" Ivan clenched his jaw, and a flicker of realization crossed his eyes, "what vendetta do you carry? Where is the child, and where is my wife?!"
"Your wife and the child are safe, for now." She smirked, "but how can you be so worried about a woman who attacked you first? Can’t you see that there’s something more powerful than the love you both share? Marius’s possession over her proves she belongs to him, to this Kingdom, and not in the slightest to you. She attacked you without showing any hesitation, if Marius wanted, he could make her pierce a dagger into your heart."
She placed a finger to his chest and whispered, "then she’ll rip it out."
Ivan’s gaze questioningly dropped to the hand that lingered on his chest. His disheveled shirt, which was missing a few buttons hung loosely on him, revealing a glimpse of the tantalizing skin hidden beneath. Looking back at the woman, his eyes narrowed dubiously as he saw the interest in her eyes, a silent proposition that made him scowl with disgust, and he sneered.
"If I get out of this, I’m ripping your head off first." He threatened calmly, "but keep this in mind; no one is safe when it comes to her. That girl you touched belongs to me, do you know what I do to people who look let alone hurt her? I make them wish for death. Count her scars, cause I fucking promise you, you will get the same treatment from me."
The temperature in the room seemed to increase to a 0 degrees ratio, cause Carmela could feel the iciness from his words seep into her bones. He wasn’t lying, he made that obvious, but one thing Carmela was able to catch was his over-protectiveness for the woman he sought after.
She couldn’t remember the last time she had seen someone genuinely show affection for another, regardless of it coming off as a death sentence to her. The idea of receiving such attention and becoming someone’s number one priority made her frozen heart skip a little.
She wanted this protection.
