Chapter 319: Back To Square One

"...!!!"

Samantha’s eyes snapped wide open, displaying her urgency, and a desperate gasp followed as she involuntarily sat up on the big bed. She coughed uncontrollably, feeling a lump settle uncomfortably in her throat, and as she tried to regain her regular breathing, it felt as if she had been holding her breath all through her unconscious state.

Her eyes diverted to the cup of water that was set on the table beside her bed, whilst she hurriedly reached for the cup of water, her thirst increasing merely from the sight of it. When she extended her hand forward, the clanking sounds of chains followed, and that made her stop, whilst she glanced at her right hand to see that her wrist had been chained to the bed stand.

Samantha’s racing heart was yet to calm, she was still immensely petrified– her ears rang, her head hurt, and the sight of her chained hands ignited it. She wriggled her wrist in an attempt to free it from the chains, but they wouldn’t budge.

"What is–" Her emerald-green eyes instinctively scanned the surroundings she unknowingly found herself in. It was a neat and eerily spacious room, it looked similar to the room she had woken up to in Carmela’s fortress, and that immediately reminded her of her situation before she ended up here. The last thing she had seen before losing consciousness was Marius’s arm being ripped off, and the voice she heard after, her mind couldn’t place them together but she knew there was no other person whose voice would have such an effect on her if it wasn’t Ivan’s.

Asides this, she couldn’t really remember what happened after that.

"Argh!" Her hands immediately found their way to her head when the painful ringing ensued. She squeezed her eyes shut, biting at her lower lip to suppress the pain, and it took some minutes before they finally stopped, and she could hear properly again. She reached for the water in the cup and immediately emptied it, whilst quenching her taste. frёeωebɳovel.com

She looked around, wondering if she had company, or if Ivan was here, but aside from her, there was no one in the chamber. She continued to try her possible best to free her wrist, but her attempts always ended up futile.

"It had to be Ivan, I heard his voice and... those chains, he’s the only one I know who uses them! I wasn’t hallucinating... it has to be Ivan but... but where is he?" Samantha’s eyes reflected her own desperation to prove she hadn’t imagined his presence at all, but how can she find him if she chained to this stupid bed!

In her moment of struggle, the least person she expected to step inside the room was Marius. The sight of him made her freeze in what she was doing, and there was a flicker of fear in her eyes when she recalled the pain he put her through.

She flinched back when he approached her bedside, and she crawled back, keeping her distance despite knowing he could close their proximity at his own will. His obsidian-black eyes watched her cynically, and she could sense the acrimony that lingered within. She detested his presence, the fear she presently felt wasn’t hundred percent coming from her, and for her past self to keep this hatred and fear burning for a man like him till this day, she wondered how badly he must have maltreated her past self.

"Where... where is Ivan?" She asked, her voice trembling despite her attempt to hide the anxiousness that seeped into her bone. Marius tilted his head at the woman who grew more wary of him by the second, and her audacity to still question him about another man made him want to grab her throat. Before he could even try, her pleading voice rang out as she folded herself like a ball.

"Don’t hurt me! Please!" Samantha immediately pleaded while hugging herself. If he made her go through the same torture for the second time, she might really die this time around! She hasn’t fully recovered from the headache yet, it felt like someone was piercing sharp thorns into the back of her head, and she wasn’t ready to go through that again.

"You finally understand who owns you?" Marius stepped closer as he took his seat beside the edge of her bed. His hand reached out as he moved her hand away from her face, and she still had her eyes closed. Her trembling lashes felt wet as he brushed his fingers through them, and he could guess the amount of energy she had used to not flinch away from his side.

"I hate that I had to do this to you," he said without a trace of emotion in his voice, whilst he caressed her wet cheeks lightly, "but you left me with no other choice. All I wanted was for you to come back to me, hmm? But you were being stubborn, so I had to do what I had to do, and I do not regret it."

"What... What did you do to Ivan?....Ahh!!" A soft painful cry left her lips when Marius grabbed her hair, nearly yanking it, and he forced her to gaze into his eyes that gleamed with disgust, as if stating that she hasn’t fully learned her lesson. He was being gentle right now, and she still dares to ask about that vampire????

"Marius! What are you doing?" Came Carmela’s voice at the entrance. She entered the room, and only then did his grip on Samantha’s hair loosen. The relief Samantha experienced afterwards could not be compared to anything, and she was grateful for the intervention of Carmela.

"You’ve done enough damage, we can’t risk having her lose her life or else, we’ll be the ones to incur the weight of her loss." She reminded Marius, but the Demon simply gave her a side-eye look and rose to his feet. Without saying a word, he exited the room, and Carmela watched him leave with a confused gaze, unsure of why he was acting so unlike himself.

Her gaze returned to Samantha who was struggling to push herself up into a sitting position, and she folded her arms, a slight smile curving her lips as she said,

"Did you really think you could escape from here?" Carmela questioned her, a mockery peal of laughter leaving her mouth. "After everything you must feel terrible returning to square one. Where have you been hiding all these while? I have to say I’m impressed that you hid these long without getting caught. What about your beast plant? It isn’t here to save you today?"

"Viney?" Samantha immediately remembered her beast plant. She checked herself, considering where the plant normally stayed but it was nowhere to be found. The knowing smile on Carmela’s lips made Samantha’s eyes snap wide at the realization.

"Where is Viney? What did you do to my plant?" She asked Carmela, but the woman simply chuckled, giving her not a single response. Marius returned a bit later, but he stood at the entrance way, whilst leaning his shoulder on the door frame and watching his Jewel get interrogated by Carmela. He had left earlier cause there was a chance if he didn’t, he would have ended Carmela at the spot for interrupting him.

"Your beast plant will never see you again, and as for your husband, we have other plans set to end him completely. When he dies, his kingdom will officially belong to me, unless of course, he has an heir who is ready to challenge me, but we both know he doesn’t have one yet, and he won’t be having one since he will be dead soon. How exciting it is for me."

"Ivan is here?!" Samantha nearly froze when she heard ’husband’ and her heart began to thump when Carmela’s expression confirmed it.

"You won’t be able to see him, so forget going to him and focus on saving yourself instead. You have the powers of the Orb, that means you can create any kind of disaster you picture. What we want from you is rather simple; you have the ability to ruin this world, and that is what you shall do. We want you to destroy the world asides the southern Kingdom. Only when that is achieved will I be shifted from a Queen to an Empress. Are you going to comply, or should I get rid of everyone who have been dear to you?"
