Chapter 309: Can Viney Eat Him Too?

Samantha took a cautious step back as the guard drew out his gigantic sword. Her heart pounded as Brian swiftly grabbed her wrist so they could run in the opposite direction, but they were forced to stop when another guard emerged from the shadows, blocking their path.

Their armors gleamed in the dim light, and their eyes glinted menacingly as they sized Samantha’s features from head to toe. One of the guards signaled to his partner using his hands, and Samantha understood the prospect of what was about to happen– they were deliberately taken note of her features to confirm if she was the lady Carmela had ordered them to find, and it was already too late coming up with a solution cause they seemed to have hit the realization.

"You never learn, Brian. Always choosing to side against the orders of the Queen." Said a guard as he pointed his blade at the face of Brian, "I could end you right here and the Queen will be grateful that I found a reason to get rid of you on her behalf. If you don’t want to bring trouble to you and your pathetic people, surrender the girl to us, and we might let you walk away with your limbs still intact." He threatened with a gruff voice, but Brian refused to yield to their command, whilst keeping Samantha under his coverage.

"I guess you’ve made up your mind, and to think you had the chance of winning back the Queen’s favor." The air crackled with tension as the guards closed in, their swords poised to strike. Samantha’s mind raced as she turned her back to Brian, whilst searching for an escape route that eluded them like a fleeting dream. Trapped and cornered, their options dwindled like the fading stars above.

"Uhm... is there a chance you can fight?" Asked Brian as he took a stance, and Samantha didn’t have the strength to answer such an obvious question. If she knew how, she certainly wouldn’t be this frightened.

When the two guards lunged at the same time with their swords brandished, Brian was quick to evade the fatal strike and swiftly sent a punch to the guard in front of him. Samantha wisely summoned her vines from under the earth, whilst they trapped the incoming guard’s leg in one quick swoop, leading him to trip and fall. When he made attempts to rise, clearly angered by her actions, several sharp thorns immediately adorned the vines, piercing through his armored leg and coming in contact with the guard’s skin.

Samantha barely knew what she was doing, but she didn’t mind as long as it worked in her favor. She made a promise that she was going to get stronger no matter what, and that is exactly what she was going to do.

A cry of agony escaped the guard’s lips, echoing deeply through his helmet, but to Samantha’s shock, he used his blade to cut through the vines and was up on his staggering feet. When he lunged another attack, which was fiercer than the last, Samantha quickly covered her head with the hood, concealing her appearance and narrowly escaping the touch of his blade. Her sudden disappearance left the guard dazed, as his sword swiped through thin air.

However, Samantha had only evaded his blade before it could touch her, and she was grateful for the cloak that made her invisible to their gazes.

Her eyes moved to Brian who was still standing with the guard, and despite being unarmed, he knew exactly where to strike, whilst he kept sending relentless blows that clearly affected the guard. To her amazement, a whirling vortex that seemed to have been formed from air, suddenly emanated from Brian’s palm like a tornado, and he sent it straight at the guard. The guard, unprepared for the use of magical attack, was immediately struck by the vortex, and that sent him flying only to have his back connected to a tree, whilst the horrendous impact startled Samantha to her wits.

The fight wasn’t over yet, because the second guard had attacked Brian from behind. The hilt of his blade was mercilessly pressed against Brian’s neck, threatening to block his windpipe with unrelenting force, and Brian struggled to get the hilt away. However, he was instantly released, to his evident surprise.

Turning around to see what had happened, he noticed a bigger vine had uprooted from the earth’s surface, and it hurled the guard up in the air.

His eyes drifted to Samantha who had taken off the hood of her cloak, and her eyes were aglow with an otherworldly light. She controlled the vine with her right hand extended forward, and to the guards dismay, the vine slammed him hard to the ground multiple times, and with a quick spin, it flung the guard away, making him slam into his guardmate who was slowly starting to rise up.

Another series of vines uprooted from where they laid, swiftly wrapping them up and keeping them in place. They stopped struggling when Brian and Samantha approached them, and the vines stretched forth to take off their helmet, revealing two men with serpent colored eyes. They didn’t look human, at least not completely, and Samantha didn’t know which clan she’d associate them with.

"You won’t get away with this!" Said one of the guards as he clenched his teeth, a vein popping at the side of his head, "wait till the Queen learns that you’ve been keeping an enemy of the kingdom in your little community. She will burn it down, just as she should have done instead of banishing you from this side of the realm!!"

"There won’t be any need for that, cause you’ll need to see your Queen in order to fulfill your devious intention." Samantha asserted firmly, causing the smile on their inhumane faces to cease. ƒгeewebnovёl_com

"Viney."

She called for her beast plant, and in no time, the ground beneath them quivered with a stomping sound, as if an ancient force was being awakened. The color on the men’s face drained with terror as a massive plant emerged from the corner like a living tower, only to stand behind Samantha. The sight had frightened Brian to the point he stumbled backwards in fear, and his pupils dilated, unable to believe the small, cute plant he saw earlier was the monstrous thing standing before him.

The plant’s petals unfolded like dark, serrated blades, and its immense size casted a shadow over the quivering men. It towered menacingly above them, acting as a true guardian who only yielded to its Master’s calls. The men, once predators, now trembled before the fearsome entity, and their terror-stricken gaze moved to the lady whose eyes were still aglow.

’Master Master, can Viney have them both?’ she heard her pet plant say, as if excited to acquire its meal for tonight, and she hummed.

"Viney has been obedient, so you can have them both." She offered the two guards to her beast plant, and out of nowhere, green tendrils circled the guards legs, pulling them forward.

With a panicked scream leaving their lungs, they were immediately hurled and gobbled up by the plant at the same time.

Brian couldn’t believe his eyes as he gazed at the towering plant.

’Yuck! They’re not even that tasty! My taste buds are ruined!’ her Viney childishly complained, moving its body side to side and causing the ground beneath them to quiver.

Samantha gave it a pat before glancing at the bewildered Brian. Noticing how the size of her plant was literally scaring the daylights out of him, she made it shrink back to its small size, and then it hopped on her palm.

"Did it just... swallow two hefty grown up guards?" Brian asked in a stammering voice, unable to comprehend what he had just seen.

"They were going to expose us if we let them leave." Samantha explained, "I had no other choice but to do this."

’He looks confused, can Viney eat him too so he understands?’ asked her pet plant.

Samantha was about to respond to the coy little thing but stopped herself. It would be better to keep Viney away from Brian before he ends up being a victim.
