Chapter 289: Monstrous Viney

The man’s agonizing scream was immediately silenced as he ended up being swallowed whole by the carnivorous plant, giving him no time to react before making him meet his end. Its emerald green hue caught Samantha’s eyes when she turned to see, and her pupils automatically dilated as she was faced with her no longer small, cute Viney, but a monstrous, scary-sized side of it looming at the foot of her bed.

Her nerves were instantly spooked!

Her little Viney, was now a colossal animated plant, whilst it resembled a monstrous pitcher plant, capable of sending tremors down the spine of anyone who crossed paths with it. Its enormous fang mouth yawned open, petals pulsating with an otherworldly glow. Towering almost to the ceiling, the plant’s sinuous tendrils swayed like serpents, casting an unsettling dance upon the walls. Its green hues seemed to pulse with life, and Samantha had to sit up slowly, her mind still recovering from having seen the plant swallow an alive man whole.

"V... Viney?" She stammered softly, wondering if it was really her pet plant. She was inexplicably caught between fear and fascination, and all those times Viney had told her how it couldn’t reveal it’s true self without purpose, she finally understood why.

’Is Master okay?’ The concerned voice of Viney was immediately transmitted into her head, and as though the tears in her eyes had been waiting to hear her Viney speak, she could no longer keep them in as she got out of bed to stand before her pet plant. If her hands weren’t chained, she would have embraced her dear plant for staying alive. The tears pooling her eyes rolled down her face, and that was all she could bring herself to do.

If Viney hadn’t intervened on time, she was likely to get molested by that man, and then what will become of her? What will she say to Ivan? How she had escaped such a cruel reality thanks to Viney, she would never forget.

Sensing her inescapable tears, the plant’s tiniest tendrils extended towards Samantha’s face, gently wiping away her tears from her closed eyelids– it came as a gentle caress rather than a threat.

’Did Viney wake up too late? Viney is genuinely sorry, Master.’ She heard it speak, sounding apologetic as though it was the cause of her problems, and Samantha managed to smile in-between her tears, whilst she shook her head at the gigantic plant before her. She had been frightened a few seconds ago, but when she confirmed that it was her pet plant, all her fears had vanished, she didn’t even mind that it had eaten a fellow human in front of her. Infact, she was glad it happened.

When she didn’t see or hear from her pet plant, it weakened her soul.

"I was worried about you." Samantha admitted meekly, trying to fight back more tears. "Everyone was suddenly gone and I thought you left as well. I’m confused, I don’t know what to do Viney. I’m scared." More tears escaped her eyes as she had finally found someone she could pour out her emotions to, regardless of it being a plant– Viney gave her more attention than most people ever did.

’If Master is scared Viney will become scared too. Viney shall protect Master until death! Is Master hurt?’

Samantha shook her head, feeling an unusual sense of comfort take over. "Can you get this off me?" She stretched her hand forward, showing it to her pet Viney her hands that had been mercilessly chained by those people.

Instantly, Viney’s tendrils extended with calculated grace, and Samantha could hardly discern how her pet had done it, but a minute after, she heard a ’click!’ sound, and the chains came off.

’what does Master want Viney to do? Viney doesn’t have the agility to face the ones outside, Viney will listen to Master if Master has a plan.’

Samantha immediately found solace in Viney’s presence, and she felt like she could really think now that she knew she had someone with her. Shushing her pet Viney, as if forgetting she was the only one with the ability to understand it, she paced back and forth in the room. Even if her mind was presently muddled, she knew it would only get worse if she stayed here, so the best option was to plan an escape.

"Viney, there’s a boat at the back of the building. If we can get there then we can get out of here! But..." there was a tone of discouragement in her voice, "how to get past the people downstairs..."

’Does Master know the way to the back of the building?’ questioned Viney, and Samantha found it strange having to tilt her head up to look at the monstrous plant, when she could have it resting on her palm. She no longer felt like a master but instead, she felt like an ant standing before an elephant.

"No, I... couldn’t find the exit." She answered.

’Before we think of one, does Master want me to eat the human in my belly?’ asked Viney, ’I suggest eating him, he tried to hurt Master, and Viney feels starved.’

"You mean he’s not... dead?" Samantha blinked in awe, and she heard her pet plant sigh before saying,

’He’s very much alive, unless Master doesn’t want him to be.’ her plant quoted, ’it’s a burden having to carry him, but Viney will feel relieved if Master wants it to eat the human.’

"Eat him." Samantha came to the quick conclusion, and she noticed the slight hesitant reaction from her pet plant. It clearly wasn’t expecting her to agree immediately, in fact it already believed it’d had to do a lot more convincing in order to make its Master grant it this meal, but she agreed.

’Viney can proceed to digestion.’

Samantha’s mouth hung slightly agape at what she just learnt. Not only can her pet plant eat anyone, but it has the ability to keep them alive until she says otherwise. Her eyes shook when it gave her an idea on how to flee from the Palace.

"Viney, how do you stop a whole army from attacking?"

’By targeting the leader?’

"That’s how we’ll leave, by targeting the one in charge." She looked up at her pet plant with hope gleaming in her eyes. She knew it had to be that woman that set her up with this man. Her reasons behind such an act were still unknown to Samantha, but she was sure the woman would come again to analyze the progress.

"Viney, pretend to be a tree until she walks in and I give in the signal."

"Who’s walking in?"

"Her aura will point her out. Now go!" She gestured for her pet plant to hide at the darkest corner, whilst it shrinked a little in order to fully blend into the darkness, unseen.

As some minutes passed by, Samantha sat on the bed.

Her knees were raised up to her chest, whilst she crossed her arms on her knee, resting her head on it for support. As expected, the door opened, and Carmela walked in to find Samantha sitting on the bed as the helpless, confused human orb which she was. Her hazel eyes looked around the room, trying to make out her uncle whom she hoped was dead by now, but her eyebrows creased confusedly as there happened to be no sign of him.

The door wasn’t locked before she came in, did he perhaps step out? Did she not kill him?? Carmela really hoped that wasn’t the case, as this was her first test to truly figure out if the girl possessed any supernatural power.

"Where is the man who was supposed to be with you?" Questioned Carmela, but she got no response aside from the sobs coming from the golden-blonde-haired lady. Not having time for this as she had matters to take care of, she harshly grabbed Samantha’s hair and made her lift her head so she could look at her.

"Do not ignore me, you seem to have your attitude intact despite being manhandled. There are no bruises on you, are you only compliant in bed?" Carmela’s lips formed a lopsided grin, but all of a sudden, her smile waned. Although the difference was little, she had taken it into notice that the girl was never really... crying.

"You..."

"Viney now!" Samantha immediately gave the signal, and due to Carmela’s inability to grasp what the girl had just screamed out, it was already too late for Carmela to react because a vine had snaked her way in swift motion, grabbing her almost immediately. Her panicked scream alerted the guards outside, and when they rushed in with their swords brandished, they froze upon seeing the same lady stand before a towering plant, and their Queen was wrapped and hurled into the air with a vine.

"Shhhh." Samantha immediately warned the guards who were about to call for backup. "You speak, and you lose your Queen. Drop your swords." She ordered, and when the life of their Queen was at stake, they immediately dropped the sword.

"Take two steps back and lead me to the back of the Palace, where I can find a boat."
