Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game-Chapter 526 - 286 Everything goes wrong
"I certainly have my channels for information, too," Charlotte said with a hint of pride, lifting her chin slightly. It seemed as though being above the clouds had relaxed her.
Atlas Hallow’s private jet cabin was spacious. Mia was a bit tired from the long flight back and forth, so Freya Morgon took her to rest in the bedroom, leaving just her and Atlas. He opened a bottle of red wine, coaxing her into drinking two glasses.
Two glasses weren’t enough to get drunk, but the slightly floaty feeling was nice.
"What are you trying to do?" Atlas suddenly became alert. Why would Charlotte inquire about the Hallow Clan’s hot money source? This was very dangerous, and he wanted her to stay away from this battlefield.
"I’m not trying to do anything. But once I understand clearly, wouldn’t it be more convenient if I wanted to do something?" Charlotte placed the wine glass down, lazily leaning against the sofa.
She always felt that this matter wasn’t simple, so she investigated a bit. Oliver Baird had the most comprehensive intelligence network, making it easy to inquire about things. Besides, she had to explain to her shareholders.
Initially, when she began acquiring shares in the Hallow Clan, she prepared a very detailed report for all shareholders. However, she stopped and sold the shares to someone else shortly after starting, explaining to her shareholders that the Hallow Clan was changing ownership, and she judged that its future prospects wouldn’t be good.
But over time, the Hallow Clan had stabilized and even slightly increased, so of course, she had to account for it to the shareholders.
These people provided her with enormous funds because her investments were safe. Now, with unknown hot money pouring in, it proved her decision to withdraw early was correct.
"Don’t get involved in these matters; they’re a man’s battlefield," Atlas finished his drink, his dark eyes falling on Charlotte’s face.
Her porcelain-white face was alluring, captivating, and bringing her into a cruel struggle was truly heart-wrenching. Besides, as a man, how could he let his woman risk herself?
"This kind of battlefield doesn’t differentiate between men and women." She raised her eyes to meet Atlas’s gaze, speaking low without any retreat: "The Hallow Clan suspended trading today, stating in its announcement that due to the comprehensive review workload involved in the major asset restructuring being planned, including assets, business, and finances, it cannot be determined whether the major asset restructuring plan or report will be disclosed by the end of the month. What do you think the Hallow Clan is continuously fundraising for? What will happen to its inflated market value in the end?"
"Leave everything to me to handle." Atlas took Charlotte’s delicate hand into his palm, toying with it. Her hands were lovely like orchids, and he hoped they wouldn’t be stained with too much murderousness from the business battles where unseen blood was spilled.
"Good luck." Charlotte felt a little dizzy, perhaps from the wine, smiled charmingly, and curled up in the corner of the sofa to rest with closed eyes.
Atlas understood that his survival to this point was never due to luck.
Confronted with the enemy, he could only be ruthless—ruthless enough to leave no retreat—otherwise, he would be the one who perished.
The plane landed, and Charlotte woke up, stretching and saw Mia flying into her arms. Mia covered her little belly and said, "I need to poop..."
Throughout the journey, Atlas had prepared too much food for her, probably a bit too stuffed.
Charlotte picked up Mia and went to the restroom, unsure if Atlas was incredibly attentive or if he doted on his daughter. There was a delicate child toilet in the restroom, a small rack with some cartoon storybooks, and a tablet with many cartoons Mia liked.
Charlotte stayed beside Mia, listening to her pinch her little nose and say, "It stinks, it’s stinking little Mia..."
Her belly almost burst from laughter, yet Mia called herself little Mia, which was incredibly adorable.
"Who wants to stink little Mia?" Charlotte teasingly asked, watching Mia seriously say, "It’s the poop, stinking little Mia."
Listening to her, Charlotte felt dizzy, like a tongue twister. Mia had clearly become much more articulate after spending some time domestically. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Being with her Mia, even in the slightly odorous restroom, felt like happiness.
Just as she finished dressing Mia and picked her up to wash her hands, Freya Morgon rushed in, pale-faced.
"Mom, what’s wrong?" Charlotte saw her mother looking panicked, as if something had happened.
"Charlotte, Luna is in trouble..." After saying this, Freya slumped onto the floor, seemingly quite shocked.
"Auntie, Auntie..." Mia was scared by Freya’s tense demeanor, sensitive enough to understand it was about her aunt and immediately cried.
"Mom, what exactly happened?" They had been away for less than five days, yet something had happened?
Wasn’t Charlotte supposed to be in Las Vegas for a match?
"Let’s go outside, and you can tell me slowly." Holding Mia in one arm and trying to help her mother, Atlas approached, taking the tearful, heart-aching little girl from her hands.
Charlotte helped her mother up, feeling that she was genuinely terrified, shaking all over.
"She was caught cheating in gambling in Las Vegas; they cut off three fingers." After saying this, Freya suddenly burst into tears as though the sky had fallen.
How could this happen? Charlotte’s face turned as pale as paper. How could such a thing occur?
"What about now? Can the fingers be reattached? Have her fingers been reattached?" Charlotte forced herself to calm down; her mother had already collapsed, so she couldn’t follow suit.
"I’ve asked friends in Las Vegas to handle it. Charlotte, come with me to Las Vegas right away. I’ll have someone send Mom and Mia back." Atlas knew there was no convincing Charlotte to stay; with Luna in trouble, she was frantic, let alone Luna being her own sister.
"Okay, okay..." Charlotte nodded, and in the emergency, she didn’t notice Atlas had referred to Freya as Mom in his previous sentence.
Thus, without even disembarking the plane, she kissed Mia’s little face to comfort her, then hurried with Atlas to Las Vegas.
Before arriving in Las Vegas, Atlas had already gathered some information. He poured a cup of tea for Charlotte and, after she drank a few sips, relayed Luna’s situation in Las Vegas: "Stay calm. She’s not in mortal danger; she’s in the hospital. Her fingers are reattached, but we’ll have to see if they survive, though this will impact their dexterity..."
"How can this be? Why would this happen, Atlas? She’s doing well and loves Mia dearly. How could this happen? How could she cheat? If she wanted to win, she wouldn’t need to cheat. Our family has rules against winning in casinos; Luna wouldn’t do such a thing..." Charlotte shook her head in disbelief. When Luna managed to transform into her current self, she hadn’t considered winning in casinos before; why would she cheat now?
This family rule was something he’d never heard of; it must be very secretive, and surely there’s a story behind it.
"She was found in the casino with two hidden cards and was with a man. She instructed this man to win quite a bit, indeed without gambling herself," Atlas said briefly. Yet Luna was always at home playing games; when did she get a boyfriend?
"How is that considered cheating if she didn’t gamble?" Charlotte couldn’t comprehend as she frantically picked up her phone to borrow a person from Oliver.
"Calm down first." Atlas took Charlotte’s phone away, placing both hands on her shoulders, speaking with steadiness.
"How can I be calm? For the past few years, she’s been gaming; her fingers are like her life. How can you tell me to be calm?" She had heard Luna was excellent at operation, her fingers agile and beautiful, yet even if reattached, Charlotte could give her lovely rings to cover scars, but future agility would never be the same—what to do then?
Everything felt off. Too many things had happened recently, genuinely unsettling her.
Her best friend, confidant, and sister had consecutively been in trouble.
"Someone wants to draw you to Las Vegas..." Atlas articulated softly, realizing he didn’t want Charlotte involved in the battle, but the lurking demons with sharp fangs were each emerging, attempting to drag her in.
One reason was someone having a vendetta against Charlotte or the Miller Family; another possibility was undermining Atlas through targeting Charlotte.
Charlotte seemed unable to shed tears anymore; the unease, pain, and worry were indescribable...
