Chapter 411: 223 He should have dug a hole and buried himself long ago_4

Because at the time they wanted to escape blame, they pinned everything on Charlotte Miller. Just because it involved Charlotte, Amir didn’t even dare to find a way for his mother to get medical parole and just stayed inside. Her sentence was reduced twice, so she should be able to be released around the same time as Ava Walker.

He wasn’t here to see Kinsley Lee. He was here today to see Ava Walker.

Outside, the spring was bright and beautiful, but inside this prison, it was rather cold and damp.

He sat in the visiting room, holding a cigarette with his long fingers. In the swirling white smoke, he saw Ava Walker walking in.

The dark blue coarse prison uniform with a yellow vest against Ava’s dull face—this definitely wasn’t a good place. After three years here, Ava seemed to have aged thirty years.

When the sentencing was given, Atlas didn’t interfere much; he merely arranged for Ava and her mother to be incarcerated separately in different locations.

Now, Ella Johnson had been transferred to another city, which served as a punishment for Ava.

"Atlas, you really came to see me?" How could anyone come to see her? When Ava heard there was a visitor, she thought she heard wrong, because her mother couldn’t possibly come out even with a sentence reduction.

Who could possibly be coming to see her?

It wasn’t until she smelled that unique scent of Atlas that she realized he truly had come.

No matter how much time passed, and no matter how ruthless he was to her, when Atlas sat there, he was still like a soul-recalling banner to her.

He summoned her heart, her soul, and all her reason, causing her to harm herself and her mother, making them serve time together.

"Long time no see." Atlas exhaled a wisp of white smoke from his thin lips. His deep features were even more alluring under such light.

Ava looked at him foolishly; it was as if she hadn’t seen Atlas for a lifetime.

The female guard pulled Ava down into a chair and, with a smiling face, said to Atlas, "Mr. Hallow, I’ll step out first. Call me if you need anything." Instructions from above indicated that this Mr. Hallow wasn’t bound by regular visiting hours.

Atlas just gave a faint nod, and the female guard left the cramped visiting room.

"Is there something wrong with my mom?" Ava didn’t know why Atlas suddenly came to see her. She abruptly thought it might be her mother’s health or some trouble in the other prison that Atlas came to inform her about.

Thinking further, it seemed unlikely; such matters wouldn’t require Atlas to come personally.

"Why did you guys kill Hailey Hill back then?" Atlas asked, his long fingers holding the half-burnt cigarette, the red ash glowing ominously like a monstrous eye staring at her.

Why did he suddenly ask after all these years?

Ava’s eyes lingered slowly on Atlas’s face, greedily watching this man, the man she’d loved for so many years, not even offering a single polite word upon meeting.

"Wasn’t it already investigated back then? She took the deposit but didn’t deliver the jewelry, she cheated us, she didn’t have any jewelry. That’s why we killed her."

Ava spoke softly; back then no one dared to reveal the truth.

If everything had been confessed back then, it wouldn’t have been as simple as just ten years. If Atlas got ruthless, he wouldn’t have left anyone alive.

"You know, even if you don’t speak, I have ways of making you talk. Do you want to suffer a bit more?" Atlas’s voice was indifferent and cold, completely devoid of humanity.

His gaze fell on Ava’s lips, once full now dry and pale, missing several teeth, her whole cheek somewhat deformed, looking like a failed plastic surgery, rather terrifying.

"What do I have to be afraid of? It’s already bad enough as it is..." Her vacant gaze unable to leave Atlas’s body, this man was the most potent poison, corrosive to the heart and soul, yet she willingly drank it, sweet as candy.

"Sure, you’re not afraid, but have you considered your mother, already close to sixty years old?" Atlas maintained his nonchalant demeanor, but as he spoke, his dark eyes emanated a terrifying murderous intent.

"She’s done so much for you, do you have the heart to let her suffer in prison without relief?" Atlas watched Ava’s face turning ashen pale, like snow on a grave in June.

No matter how tragic, it’s not deserving of sympathy; this was of their own making.

"But Atlas, don’t you have any sentiment for our past?" Ava’s emaciated body shuddered violently. How could he use her mother to threaten her?

"We never had any sentiment." Atlas crushed out the cigarette, leaning closer, speaking softly, "Those were feelings you thought existed, unrelated to me. My patience is limited. If you don’t tell, I’ll go find Ella Johnson. If she knows you’re unwell, she’ll naturally spill everything."

Tears welled up in Ava’s eyes, dropping one by one.

In truth, she hadn’t had a single good day during all these years of imprisonment, even contemplating suicide as perhaps the best relief. Yet, she endured these thoughts, knowing that when her mother was finally released, she’d be old and in need of her care.

Because she’d been locked away for so long, she realized the only one who truly cared for her and treated her well was her mother.

"I can tell you, but can you have my mother and me imprisoned together?" At least this way, she could see her mother every day during labor; she was afraid her mother wouldn’t last until the day of release. This life was truly not for humans.

"Deal." Atlas’s response was crisp; it wasn’t difficult for him.

Sunlight streamed through from the high windows, casting on Ava’s pale and somewhat deformed face. Her lips moved slightly, as if brewing something, and after a long sigh, she began speaking slowly.

Retracing those memories was terribly painful. If she could, she would not have recklessly done those things, perhaps leading a good life with Amir, or taking money after divorce to take her mother abroad.

These were paths she didn’t take; she chose an absolute path that left her neither human nor ghost.

She regretted not realizing sooner...

"I actually met Hailey at the Hallow Clan; she said she was your woman..." Ava closed her eyes intently, the emaciated face of Hailey Hill appearing to her mind.

There were indeed things that happened, and did Charlotte know about them?

Atlas watched as the dry lips recounted the past, dragging him bit by bit into a terrifying inferno...
