Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 79: His Antidote
"Will you accept any punishment I give to you if I prove in the next ten minutes that you took the ring and not me?"
Anne asked, causing Sasha’s eyes to narrow.
What did she think she was doing? Did she truly believe that she could prove herself innocent?
Sasha’s eyes couldn’t help but further curl up in derision.
Fine, it won’t hurt to play her game.
"Sure, do I have anything to be afraid of? You’re the guilty one, and if you have anything to prove that I really am guilty, then I’ll accept whatever punishment you give me."
Go ahead and fool yourself, I’ll play along, she mused internally. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Hearing that, Anne gave a satisfied nod.
She went up to Andrew, who looked expressionless. There was neither rage nor any decipherable expression on his handsome face, just a plain nonchalance as if everything currently happening had nothing to do with him. But something about his aura seemed repelling, showing he would surely not let this matter go. He was just patiently waiting for the culprit who would receive his rage.
Despite the fact that everyone kept a considerable distance away from the man, it was shocking to the staff present and even Donald himself that Anne actually dared to approach Andrew in this moment.
"I need to get something in your room. Am I allowed to go in there again?"
Despite the man’s nonchalant gaze on her, those deep eyes hiding something she couldn’t decipher, she kept her gaze locked with his.
Only the guilty cowered. Though the strange calmness of his aura made her subconsciously feel the urge to keep distance from him, she still clamped down that urge, standing before him with her gaze fixed to his.
He took his sweet time, looking at her as if he were searching for something on her face. Something like a surge of amusement flashed within his eyes for a moment before he nodded coldly.
"Go ahead."
Those two simple words weren’t taken too seriously by others because they assumed he was giving his grandfather’s guest a chance to prove her innocence.
However, they had no idea that he wouldn’t give just anyone the permission to enter his room and touch his things. But she wasn’t just anyone.
She was his antidote.
Besides, apart from this whole theft charade, he had a special lesson to teach that maid who went into his room without permission. But first... he wanted to see what made Anne’s eyes sparkle with confidence. He wanted to see her defend herself.
Donald felt unsettled as he watched Anne climb up the stairs. He ran towards her, stopping her as she was halfway.
"Anne, you don’t have to do this. There’s no need to prove anything. Though I don’t know how the ring got into your bag, I know you wouldn’t do something like that. Let me talk to my brother, I’ll convince him to let it all go."
Donald was ready to convince his brother to punish him instead, as long as he would let the issue go.
Somehow, Donald felt like Anne wouldn’t be able to prove her innocence because nothing was going to wash away the fact that the ring had been in her bag.
Anne couldn’t help but feel a trace of warmth watching how anxious Donald looked.
If she thought about it, Donald didn’t really know who she was. They didn’t know each other that deeply, yet he chose to have the kind of blind faith in her that he would trust she didn’t steal the ring even if it had been in her bag. She felt extremely grateful for that.
Smiling at him softly, she reassured,
"You don’t have to worry. I know what I’m doing."
Donald frowned, still unable to help but feel worried. "But there’s nothing in my brother’s room that’ll help you prove that you didn’t take it. There are cameras in most places in the estate, but not the bedrooms, so we can’t see exactly who took the ring."
Hearing Donald’s words, a smile raised Anne’s lips.
Luckily, she’d seen that thing earlier. Otherwise, she really would be in trouble right now.
Not long after, Anne walked down the stairs again with Donald, who’d followed her up. Everyone noticed she was hugging something to her chest.
Upon a closer look, one could see the classy white vase holding a bunch of magnolias that looked exactly like the ones in the old master’s back garden.
When Andrew seemed to have permitted Anne to go into his room once more, Sasha had felt slightly uneasy.
She knew there was nothing in the room Anne could use to assist herself.
Sasha also knew about the fact that CCTV cameras were not placed in any bedroom within the estate, so there was absolutely no way. But she’d still felt slightly nervous seeing Anne going up with such certainty.
However, seeing her hug a vase as she returned, Sasha rolled her eyes.
What the hell did she think she was going to do with a vase?
Could it be she was actually crazy enough to bring out the vase—an inanimate object—to act as her witness?
This girl truly was dumb. She wasn’t even worth her Mistress being worried. Someone as dense and senseless as her would never be able to secure the position of the first Mrs. Sterling of this generation.
The position of the first Mrs. Sterling was very important, as it was a well-known fact that the person to bring the first next-generation Sterling heir would live like an empress in a dynasty. She would be worshipped by all, including Old Master Sterling.
A woman who could carry such a responsibility would definitely be anyone else but this dumb woman.
"Is the vase going to prove your innocence?" Sasha queried with a condescending look in her eyes. "Please stop wasting everyone’s time."
Sasha gazed at Andrew. "Master, you clearly saw this woman with your ring. She is the thief, and if I hadn’t caught her, she really would have gone and sold away your ring."
Despite the fact that Sasha had spoken to him, the man’s eyes were pinned on the vase she held.
Very faintly, a smile appeared on his rigid face.
