Chapter 74: Come With Me

"Where are you taking me?" she queried and got no reply, only a glimpse of the man’s rigid profile. His fingers were right around her wrist, the warmth of them almost painfully searing. He seemed to squeeze her wrist tightly with the equal amount of rage currently visible on his irresistibly handsome features. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

He didn’t stop dragging her until he pushed her into a room upstairs.

Realizing the fact that he was taking her into a room alone, Anne began to protest. She fought to pull her wrist out of his grip, but his hand merely tightened even more as he shut the door with a loud bang and pressed her back to it. His gaze boring down on her face so intensely, his hot breath falling upon her face as he leaned close to her with a dark threat in his frigidly deep voice.

"What the hell are you doing here with him?"

The rage-filled quiver in his voice could not be missed, something possessive lurking beneath the depths of his tone.

Deep, dark eyes filled with fury were staring down at her. Anne’s bewildered eyes searched his dark ones. She could feel the cold chill that engulfed her at the darkness in his voice, but somehow she didn’t feel afraid of him now.

"And what makes you think I came here with him?" she found herself retorting, despite his scary-looking gaze.

"Don’t answer my question with a damn question!" he growled, suddenly slapping a palm over the door near her head.

She instinctively raised her palms to cover her ears upon the impact that created a loud sound.

He seriously had anger issues, she told herself.

What had she done to anger him now?

Tsk, it was best to just give him the answer he asked for so as not to attract any trouble, because his mere presence itself was pure trouble.

"I came here with your grandfather, not him. He just suddenly showed up and started talking to me." She quickly answered his question honestly if it would get him off her back. She didn’t know what his problem was.

But surprisingly, the deep frown on his face slowly began to dissipate upon hearing her reply, and as if satisfied by her answer, he moved away from where he’d had her cornered, suddenly freeing her.

She saw him walk away to sit after getting his answer from her, ignoring her as if she didn’t exist but not telling her if she could leave or stay.

Anne got the chance to gaze around the room then.

It was huge! Like about the size of five average bedrooms merged into one.

She looked around, towards the wall with a glass cabinet filled to the brim with awards and medals, then to another wall with beautiful paintings hung up.

She studied the painting with sparkly eyes, wishing she could get a closer look.

Then, realizing she continued to stand there without moving even when she was seemingly free to go now, she came back to her senses.

What was she still doing in his room? She didn’t need his permission to leave or stay. She quickly pulled the door open and hurriedly left the room.

Andrew turned to glance at the door when he heard it close with an impassive expression. After a while, he grabbed his laptop and headed for the door as well.

He sighted her running down the stairs, and he casually followed behind silently. She only realized someone was behind her when she entered the living room. She stopped, as if wondering if he followed her because he had something to say to her, but of course he ignored her and walked past her. Making himself comfortable in a seat, he opened his laptop and began to work.

She seemed to realize he hadn’t followed her after all. She took her seat and made herself comfortable opposite him.

Andrew noticed the girl sat herself with distance from him. That didn’t bother him; what he didn’t like to see was his annoying brother hovering around her like a lousy fly.

He’d like to see Gabriel come pester her now with him here.

Silence reigned in the room. The man worked furiously, but his concentration was fixed onto the woman across from him.

He noticed her discomfort, as if she wasn’t used to being in a space like this.

Was she uncomfortable because he was here, or because she was here in a strange place with no one she could talk to?

His hands suddenly stopped, hovering over the keyboards. After a while, he slammed the laptop closed and stood up, unhesitatingly walking away, then stopped and said without turning in her direction,

"Come with me."

Anne was taken aback by him suddenly asking her to follow him. She remained in her seat for quite a while before quickly jumping up to follow him as she noticed he was getting quite far.

What did he want from her now?

Tsk, he never gave any explanations—he’d only make demands as if he owned the whole world.

What if she didn’t want to go with him? She’d still have no choice but to...

He took a turn, and she followed until she realized they were going outside. They arrived at a garden, illuminated by beautiful lights.

There was a lovely shed with the designs of a modern-day pavilion amidst the flowers, surrounded by strings of beautiful lighting.

Did he want her to sit out here with him?

Anne raised her gaze to the man’s rigid profile.

Why?

Could it be he wanted her company?

Was he changing overnight from his grumpy self to an amiable person?

Just when she was waiting for him to lead her to the shed, he suddenly pointed at some flowers with bright pink blooming petals.

She followed his pointing finger to a small bush of magnolias in full bloom.

What did he want to say about them? Did he perhaps know that they were her favorite flowers?

"Pluck some of those. I have an empty vase in my room." His cold voice suddenly sounded, making all her thoughts halt.

So he was going to give her another task again. He was making her work!
