Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 44: An Affair?
During lunch break, Anne left the department to go out to a nearby restaurant where she would be meeting up with Jasmine when a certain yellow-haired person jumped into her point of view just when she was waiting for the elevator.
"Have you thought about my offer?"
Anne was startled when someone suddenly showed up in her face.
She sighed, "What are you doing? You scared me!"
"But, I was standing here waving at you the whole time but you acted like you didn’t see me, so I came over. Could it be that you’re purposely ignoring me because you actually can’t control yourself from falling for me?"
Anne watched the kid ramble on and on in front of her. Before he turned himself to a yellowhead, he actually looked quite like a serious person with his dark hair. However, now that he’d become blonde, he wasn’t different from his loud personality—one would see him from a mile away with that hair. But the truth was she hadn’t even seen him; she was nervous about how Jasmine would react about her having to get pregnant for a stranger.
"What are you talking about? Shouldn’t you be in school or something? Last time I clearly told you to do something with your time, but judging from your hair..." Anne looked at the young boy like a hopeless case and sighed, shaking her head.
At this moment the elevator opened, and a few people came out, leaving her alone when she entered.
"You... you... don’t tell me you still look at me like some kid?" Donald pointed an astonished finger at her.
How could this be?
When he’d shown up blonde, the girls had gone wild for him.
They claimed his charm had increased and some even admitted to wanting to sleep with him. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
He thought she would actually be the same—finally see his charm and see him as a man—but in her eyes he was clearly just... just a kid.
"How else should I see you? Actually, there are some fifteen-year-olds who absolutely wouldn’t go around joblessly like you do. These days even kids have a job, tsk tsk tsk." The elevator closed over her judgment-filled face looking at him, and Donald couldn’t open his mouth to say anything.
He blinked several times before he managed to recover after a long time.
Had she just called him... jobless?
Actually, Anne wasn’t usually sharp-tongued or harsh to strangers. It was just that whenever this boy was around her, he reminded her of her brother. And her big sister instincts hadn’t left her yet.
She would constantly nag her brother, but it wasn’t because she didn’t care about him—it was because she wanted him to be better. She’d been Kristen’s parent, playing the role of his mother and father, so she was used to pushing him into bettering himself.
She seemed to instinctively do the same whenever she saw Donald Sterling.
The young boy was gobsmacked by her words to the point he pulled out his phone and went live on social media.
"Guys, I just received the craziest bashing today. Someone actually called me jobless to my face! Does she even know what I do? My social media presence is already more than a job. I can spend two seconds online and I’ll earn what some people earn in a year. But..." He stood contemplatively while the comments on his screen rushed rapidly.
Many were raving about his current look. Most were girls, screaming crazily in the comments.
[OMG! Blonde Don is so handsome!!! I could eat him up through the screen!]
[Who dared to call our Don jobless? Is she blind? Just for standing there and looking handsome, I would gladly pay him all my life savings.]
[My virtual hubby is so handsome!]
[Virtual hubby your ass! Do you even think you’re worthy of him?]
While the comments continued to pour in, Donald continued to replay the earlier scene in his head.
[Wait, is Don’s face turning red?]
Someone pointed out in the comments.
Donald chuckled to himself and spoke to the camera.
"Guys, I have a theory. Do you all think this girl has fallen in love with me? She’s always lecturing me—now that I think about it, she’s definitely trying to make me become better. Even though I make a lot of money on the internet, I should really listen to her and get a job like my brothers. I can’t have her worrying about me."
Hearing Donald’s words, the comments turned in a completely different direction.
[No! Don, don’t let your heart be swayed by some girl. You have us.] The commenter added a teary face emoji to their text.
[Who could this girl be? It seems our Don might actually like her.]
[No way! He’s ours forever!]
...
Anne entered the restaurant and looked around for Jasmine. It wasn’t so hard to sight her among the throngs of people.
Jasmine raised her head; upon sighting Anne, her face lit up and she waved enthusiastically.
Anne smiled back and approached the table, but stopped short upon noticing that Jasmine wasn’t alone.
The conversation they would be having was certainly one that required them to have a talk alone—why was there someone else at the table?
"Anne, you’re here. Hurry, sit!"
The person sitting with Jasmine was a fairly good-looking young man. His eyes crinkled with kindness when he smiled at her.
"Anne, I’ve heard so much about you. It’s so nice to finally meet you." The young man began speaking to her familiarly immediately after she was seated.
Anne smiled awkwardly before looking to Jasmine questioningly.
"Anne, this is Jeffrey. A friend of mine. Jeff, this is Anne, as you’ve guessed."
Anne shook the man’s hand and greeted him politely.
When she shot a discreet glare at Jasmine, the latter, who was trying to act invisible while the guy called Jeff was chatting her up and asking her several questions, finally interrupted.
"Jeff, Anne and I will just go to the restroom real quick. Could you order for us in the meantime?"
Jeff eagerly replied, "Of course. What would you like to have, Anne?"
Something about the way he kept looking at her and addressing his questions to her made Anne feel something fishy in the air. But she replied to him nevertheless and followed along as Jasmine dragged her to the restroom.
"Before you start questioning me, know that what I just did is for your own good!" Jasmine quickly defended herself immediately they entered the restroom.
"What are you talking about, Jass? We agreed to have lunch together to talk about something, right?"
"Yes, that was the initial plan, but..." Jasmine strolled towards the mirrors over the sink, applying some gloss to her lips.
"What you said last night got me so worried about you. Imagine, my best friend, touch-starved enough she decided to have a haphazard affair with some man."
"I’m having an affair?" Anne asked, taken aback by the sudden assumption Jasmine made.
"Don’t even deny it. You wouldn’t have admitted it to me if I hadn’t caught you red-handed last night. You went to sleep with some guy, and don’t even get me started on the dangers of that." Jasmine sighed, shaking her head.
"You were obviously seeking some action, and since you didn’t have a boyfriend, you tried a good old no-strings-attached. Let me tell you, that is just a waste of time. Look at you, you’re beautiful, elegant, desirable. Can’t you see how Jeff was literally falling over himself, drooling at the sight of you? He’s going to jump at the chance of becoming your boyfriend, so without wasting any time, I set you up on a blind date. You can thank me later."
Anne froze for a whole minute, unsure if she were to laugh or cry.
