Chapter 300: Future

She sat down, then looked up at him patting the space beside her.

"Annelise..." Andrew began, his voice hoarse and breaking slightly but Anne reassured him,

"It’s going to be fine, trust me Andrew."

When he sat beside her, Anne wrapped her hands around his arm and rested her head on his shoulder, stroking his arm supportively.

"It’s familiar, isn’t it?" She asked softly, Andrew sat frozen, only nodding after a long time.

Anne let him sit in the familiar painful environment for a long time before she started to talk to him about so many things, anything that came to her mind.

"Andrew, do you think we’re going to have a boy or a girl?"

"Do you have name ideas for our child yet?"

"Which name do you like more, Ariana or Charlotte for a girl?"

He answered her basically at first, his voice slowly recovering from how husky it had been.

"I don’t mind either."

"We’ll choose names you like most."

"Ariana."

Were his casual replies, but slowly he eased into the conversation because her questions and words were painting a beautiful picture of their future.

"If we have a daughter, I want her to look, talk and act like you." He said a while later making her laugh. The thought of seeing a tiny version of Anne filled him with a lot of anticipation deep inside.

"Wouldn’t it be weird if our daughter is exactly like me in every way?" The way he phrased it, made Anne think he wanted a little clone of herself instead.

"No, she would be lovely." His Anne was lovely in every way, and a daughter like her would be too.

"Well, if we have a daughter, I want her to have a little bit of you and a little bit of me. That’s usually how it works." Anne said.

"A little bit of you and me." He repeated as if liking the thought as he moved to wrap his arms around her shoulders pulling her even closer.

To the outside world, they would see a dazzlingly handsome man holding a very beautiful woman in his arms. They looked like the ideal couple that stole people’s hearts and made them sigh in admiration or envy.

"Will we have more kids in the future Andrew?"

"Yes, more kids to make our family bigger."

Anne chuckled into his chest, she hadn’t expected him to be the kind of man to want a big family, but she didn’t know that he was picturing a house full of kids as cute, as soft, warm and lovable as her and it tempted him to want more.

They sat on that bench, talking about the most ordinary topics, occasionally she would laugh, occasionally he would laugh, never thinking he would find himself sitting on this specific bench and feeling like a man who had the whole world, the whole fucking world in his arms.

At some point while she was still talking, he seized her lips in a burning kiss.

Anne didn’t expect him to suddenly kiss her, but it was extremely sweet nonetheless. His kisses translated so much longing, a fierce need.

When their lips separated he whispered softly.

"I love you...so fucking much."

And he kissed her again, with a more powerful intensity.

When they got back to the manor sometime later, a small celebration was waiting for him.

He hadn’t thought that Anne had prepared something else for him, but because this little celebration had been Anne’s idea, he absolutely didn’t hate it.

Unlike the normal grand banquets elder Sterling would usually throw, this one was a warm and intimate gathering of his family.

Elder Sterling came forward to warmly wish him a happy birthday, and the older man came forward to embrace him.

In the past, Andrew would push away from what he would have called unnecessary emotional display, but this time he held still.

This person was the one who had been there when no one else was, the truth was even if he hid away his emotions, his grandfather was someone he truly cared for and appreciated for everything he had done for him.

Andrew hugged him back and pulled back after a while to see his grandfather wiping tears discreetly.

Seeing this as a chance, Donald jumped forward as well with open arms, and Andrew didn’t move as the youth also took advantage of his openness today to hug him.

Gabriel kept a respectable distance, it was just as well because the last thing Andrew would want to do was be anywhere near him, precisely he wanted to drive a fist into his face, but his Anne had gone through all this trouble to do this for him, so he wouldn’t ruin it for her.

He caught a glimpse of her across the room and smiled to himself. Someone came to stand next to him, and even without looking to see who it was, Andrew spoke subconsciously more to himself than the person.

"My Annelise, she’s wonderful isn’t she?" He said this with a voice full of pride, tenderness and love.

She was just the purest person he had ever met. And even till now he had no explanations for how perfectly she fit with him. He just knew she was made for him, only for him.

The person next to him sighed,

"Bro, your wife is great but it’ll make other people jealous if you show her off like that." It was only when the person spoke that he realized it was Donald next to him.

"You wouldn’t understand Don, go eat some cake or something." Andrew uttered dismissively making Donald’s eyes go round.

"Whoa! I’ve never heard you say something like that, ever!" Donald exclaimed dramatically.

On the side, not too far away, someone had Andrew’s face in a camera frame on their phone clicking a picture.

Gabriel glanced down at the picture he just took, and back up at his two brothers, a complicated look on his face.

He sent the picture as a text to someone, before typing some words.

-See that? He only looks at one person like that. I don’t know what I was thinking back then, this is my family, he is my family, if she makes him happy, truly happy, I’ll never ruin that. I’ll have divorce papers by the time you return from your vacation, let’s put an end to this childish game.-

Gabriel sent the message to Clara and settled his gaze back to Andrew and Donald, there was a familial and warm air between the both of them. Even Andrew who used to be as stiff as a wall smiled, really smiled at something Donald said. For a moment, he took a few steps as if to approach them, however he stopped, realizing it was never his place to be among the two of them.

When had he ever been the brother they needed? He had no place with them.

With a slow regretful look in his eyes he turned back and left.

Anne was nervously looking at the time when she felt an arm embrace her from behind, she smelled her husband even before seeing him.

"Why have you been standing so far away from me? I missed you." He muttered by her ear.

"It was just for a few minutes Andrew." Anne replied, but she struggled to put enough humor to her tone because she knew what would happen in a few minutes might throw away any happy atmosphere.

She didn’t want to ruin today for Andrew, but that woman didn’t have the time...

"Even if it was just a few seconds, I still miss you. Stay by my side okay?" Andrew asked but Anne gave no reply, he let go to turn her around, that was when he noticed her expression.

"Hey, what’s wrong?" His voice had gone really soft as he lifted her face so she would look at him.

"Andrew, you trust me don’t you?" As she asked this, she noticed how he didn’t hesitate as he quickly answered.

"Of course I do, now what’s bothering you?"

"And you also know that I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you right?"

He nodded, "I know. What is it Annelise, you look pale."

His fingers caressed her face as he watched her questioningly, as if eager to take away whatever made her worried.

"I..."

Anne’s words were cut off when murmurs interrupted from behind, Anne looked over his shoulder to see that person and her expression paled even more.

Andrew only turned around when he noticed Anne looking at something behind him, looking even more uneasy.

But when he saw, his whole body went rigid. Going as still as someone who had stopped breathing.
