Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 260: The So Called Husband
Anne rushed into the bathroom with her heart pounding as if it would burst out of her chest. She placed her hand against her chest, feeling the heavy thumping on her palm.
"Run now Peaches, or I’ll forget everything the doctor said." He had whispered to her ear like a tempting demon as he released her and she fled into the bathroom. In that moment, Anne had felt like a rabbit about to be devoured by a tiger.
She had only run as he told her to because he had momentarily scared her, it was a heat of the moment thing and she had actually run away to hide, a few minutes later, Anne calmed her mind and peeked out of the bathroom, but the bed itself was completely empty. Andrew must have left too.
For the next few hours, Anne spent all the time chatting with Kristen. Several times he would bring up the topic of her husband but she would find an excuse to cover it up. She felt it wasn’t the right time yet to let Kristen meet Andrew, she knew her brother well, he would oke around till he found something wrong with her relationship, it was best to keep the two separate for now.
Kristen at first didn’t seem to believe her excuses, but he eventually let it go once Anne began to excitedly tell him about her job at the company. Seeing Anne happy was a certain way to keep Kristen distracted, he loved seeing her being genuinely happy and passionate about things, just like how she used to be so passionate about art in the past.
Anne, being aware that she could lift his mood by giving the impression that her own mood was lifted did exactly that.
Kristen was worried that he had missed out on so much of his life, but she had gone on to assure him that there was already so much waiting for him out there. They spent the next hour vividly envisioning what he would do when he would go back out into the world.
His dream had always been to work with Nexar, a famous tech company that created so many revolutionary technological innovations. She assured him that he could still pursue that dream, only a year and some months had been cut off from his life, he could still start over.
Eventually, Anne managed to assure him and he was in a lighter mood again.
"It doesn’t matter to me if you have another man in your life now, I’ll still fulfill my promise to you once I’m all better." He said with certainty.
Anne smiled at his words, before teasingly saying, "What do you mean another man, you’re just a boy."
He glared at her playfully but didn’t say anything. Sh had seen him as a boy ever since he was six and she would continue to see him as a boy till he was seventy. He took several seconds before he asked,
"Be honest with me, does that man take care of you?"
Anne rolled her eyes at him, "And for the hundredth time Kristen, that man is your brother in law. And yes, he does take care of me."
"I won’t call him brother in law, I don’t trust him with you yet. And if it’s really true that he does take care of you, then why are you all skin and bones? Look at your arm..." He lifted her hand, "These hands are way too fragile you probably won’t even be able to kill a mosquito if you put your whole energy into it.
Anne snatched her arm out of his hold, he was gripping her wrist between two fingers as if she were really that fragile and powerless.
"Hey, you know I’ve always been like this. I have a really good metabolism, I’ll remain the same even if I ate a whole truck of food every single day."
Anne knew he was just trying to find things to criticize her said husband about. Who knew brothers took their sisters getting married this seriously, he wouldn’t completely drop the topic even if she countlessly brushed it off.
"Yeah right, tell yourself that."
"Tsk, you can be so uptight sometimes."
"I’m not being uptight, I’m being careful. Your husband is suspicious to me, and you know it might have been a year, but to me the accident feels like it just happened yesterday and I woke up today only to see that so many things have changed. You got married and you’ve changed a little too."
"I’ve changed, how have I changed?" Anne still decided to keep it playful even though she knew Kristen was getting serious again.
"You look...a bit different, just a little bit prettier, don’t get too excited it’s just a little bit."
Anne laughed shaking her head at him before seriously saying,
"I know everything will feel strange right now, but all the things that feel different, you’ll slowly get used to them."
He smiled warmly in a reassuring way, he didn’t want her getting worried about him so he changed the topic making it playful again,
"I could get used to you being prettier, just not your husband. You’re still so young, don’t know why you were in such a rush to get married."
They continued to chat for a while till lunch time and because Kristen always had his meal in bed, Anne had her meal in his room as well. Time slipped by and she didn’t realize she had spent hours in his room, so Anne left for a moment only to be informed by one of the guards that Andrew instructed them to tell her that he was called for an emergency family dinner and the Sterling estate so they would have to leave in a few hours so they could return to Verizon on time.
Her time with Kristen was cut short and since he was still under observation, he couldn’t travel yet so she would have to leave him again for a bit.
Anne stayed with him the whole time before one of the guards came to call her when the helicopter was said to have arrived, she hugged Kristen goodbye to which he showed no surprise saying he knew she would need to leave sooner or later since she had a stable job now.
After a little exchange, Anne left Kristen’s room, she was given a set of protective clothes against the cold which she changed into after which she was taken outside, she had expected to see Andrew waiting for her outside but he wasn’t there, instead she was led into the car and to her surprise, the driver started the car without waiting for Andrew’s arrival.
"Wait, we’re leaving already? Andrew isn’t here yet." She exclaimed when the car had suddenly started driving down the mountains.
"Master will come, he told us to take you to the helicopter."
Anne frowned slightly wondering what kept him busy.
"Did he stay back for something important?" Anne asked.
"I’m unaware ma’am."
Anne nodded, then decided to sit back quietly.
She didn’t know that back inside the mansion, Andrew was currently walking into Kristen’s bedroom.
Kristen had been feeling a little sad when he heard his sister was leaving, though he hadn’t shown her that he was feeling down about the thought of her leaving, he kept his sadness to himself and now allowed himself to feel them.
He hated that he had been a big obstruction in her life, hated that she had sacrificed too much for him, from now on, he wouldn’t let his sister ever make sacrifices for him again.
She kept smiling and laughing in front of him, trying to cover something up and hide something from him, and something in him told him that whatever she was hiding had to do with her suddenly getting married. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Right at this moment, the door to his room opened from the outside and a tall, intimidating looking man strode in.
Kristen looked up at the man’s dominating figure, something about this man oozed danger. He wasn’t like the people he had seen in this mansion before, he looked like he lorded over it all.
This person... could he be Anne’s so called husband?
