Chapter 232: Saw You With Her

When Andrew walked into the manor, shuffling sounds and the light still on in the kitchen had halted his steps.

The household staff wouldn’t be in the kitchen at this time, they adhered to the rules in the manor far too much for that, the only person it could be was...her.

Andrew instantly changed his route, tracing his steps towards the kitchen. An enticing aroma drifted through the air as he came to the entrance of the kitchen, sighting the familiar figure sitting on a stool by the kitchen island.

As she looked up to meet his eyes when he entered, he suddenly felt his breath catch in his throat.

There was something strange in his heart at this moment. It grew and fluttered like soft feathers grazing and tickling his chest.

Seeing her made this sudden feeling of completeness trickle into him.

She was there, in his life, awakening his heart even without doing anything.

He took her image in as if he wanted to fully memorize her into his mind. Her long wavy chestnut brown hair fell in smooth gentle waves down her shoulders catching the light with a natural sheen. Her fair, luminous skin coupled with a soft subtle blush on her cheeks, her eyes were deep warm brown, large and expressive, framed by long lashes and perfectly shaped brows. Her lips, naturally pink slightly parted holding an attractive sheen that kept his gaze glued to them for a long time. He felt like he already had every feature of her face memorized, and everytime he looked at her she was more beautiful than the last.

In his life he had never wanted to share anything with anyone in his life before, if something hurt him he would hold it in, keep it to himself, but seeing her he suddenly wanted to share the things he felt with her...only with her.

Andrew walked into the kitchen with slower more relaxed steps.

"Why are you still awake." He suddenly seemed to realize something and glanced down at his watch, "It’s so damn late, you should be sleeping by now."

Anne’s expression remained the same, she looked neither surprised to see him there nor happy, so he knew she hadn’t been waiting up for him. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

"I was hungry so I got up to cook something." She replied in a voice that lacked any emotion and Andrew let his gaze settle on the bowl of hot spicy chicken drumsticks in front of her.

"You shouldn’t have spicy food at night." He warned standing near the kitchen island as his hands settled in his pockets.

"I know, but I’ll eat it anyway." Strangely, Andrew sensed a tone of defiance and something else in her voice. She avoided his gaze and there was a frown on her face the whole time.

He looked at her face for a while trying to decipher her expression, in the end his mind was unable to settle on if she looked angry because she was feeling hungry like she said or if there was something else lurking beneath the surface.

In her mind, Anne was pleading with Andrew to just go away and leave her alone.

If she looked at him, she remembered the woman she saw him with earlier and frankly with the nature of their relationship, she had no right to feel bad or angry or even want to question him about it, it frustrated her and made her feel annoyed and angry at the same time and she felt like a part of her wanted to just lash out for no reason.

But their relationship was just like this, it carried rules and feelings weren’t supposed to be involved. Who was she to expect loyalty from him when their marriage didn’t bind him to her exclusively and he still had the right to want someone else.

Anne wanted to...

Her thoughts were halted abruptly as she felt his warm fingers suddenly raise her chin making her look up at him.

"Did something upset you?"

Anne stiffened at his question, her head tilted upwards forced to look up into his handsome face.

Her heart suddenly softened as she gazed into his eyes, but the ache rose again and she looked away pulling her chin away from his finger that propped it up.

"No." She lowered her head and grabbed a drumsticks digging her teeth into the flesh to take a bite.

Eating something she was craving should have eased her, but she suddenly felt a strange kind of anger welling up in her chest.

What did he just ask? Did something upset her?

Of course she was upset but what made it even worse was the fact that she couldn’t even talk about it!

She bit harder into the chicken, the sudden burst of flavors made a rush of delight fill her, but that still didn’t ease her anger.

Was she angry at him or at herself?

She should be angrier at herself for letting her heart ignore the words of the contract when she had so blatantly told herself that she wouldn’t ever allow herself to ever fall in that situation, now she was paying for it.

Stupid! Stupid!! Truly stupid!!!

She suddenly felt a hand swipe her lips and her eyes snapped up to meet Andrew’s. He had pulled a stool over and sat across from her wiping off sauce from her lips, she stared at him in a daze for a bit before cutting it off and looking away.

"Don’t eat so quickly, you might choke."

Anne suddenly felt miserable on the inside. Her heart was truly a traitor as if it couldn’t see the pain that would hit it if it continued like this.

She was just admonishing herself internally for falling for him, but her heart didn’t hesitate to flip and start beating faster the minute he touched her and spoke to her in that irresistible voice of his.

Why was her heart being like this?

She suddenly wiped her mouth off with the back of her hand wanting to get rid of the warmth of his touch so her heart wouldn’t keep clinging to the feeling of it.

At that moment he suddenly gripped her wrist, when she looked up his eyes were searchingly looking at her as if trying to point something out.

"Something’s wrong, do you feel sick?" As he asked this, his hand immediately moved to cup her forehead feeling her temperature, "You don’t feel warm." He muttered more to himself than her, "Did someone say something to you today?"

In this moment with him looking at her like this, Anne almost found herself blurting out what was on her mind.

I saw you with her. She wanted to say.

When I saw you, it felt like my heart was being ripped out because I know I have no place in your life but my heart wants that and I can’t control it.

However those words she wanted to say were forcefully kept in as she forced a small smile just to keep him from further suspecting she wasn’t feeling alright.

"Nothing’s wrong, and no one said anything, I just had a long day."

His brows furrowed sightly as if he’d heard a hint of falseness in her tone.

He continued to study her face as if seeking for the truth in them.

"Then what’s wrong?"

She felt her heart constrict with a tight longing just by the way he looked at her and the question he asked.

Why did he keep doing this? Why did he keep talking to her so warmly as if she meant something when they both knew that she didn’t?

Her mind knew it but her heart constantly continued to fall for it so much so that she...she wanted to let her tears fall freely and let her tongue speak the truth of her feelings to him.

’That is your greatest mistake, the contract clearly states you’re forbidden from falling in love. I’m afraid the contract is over...’

She imagine him saying this to her in her head and it made her chest physically hurt.

Honestly with him asking her like this she wanted to say it, but what would saying her mind mean...? It would mean him drawing an uncrossable line in their relationship from now on, it would mean him distancing himself from her to avoid her feelings. It could also mean a chance, that he might tell her that she mattered to him, but could she truly take this chance and let him know how she felt about him?

Could she really risk him looking at her with disdain like he’d once looked at that woman and telling her she had broken the contract terms?

In the end she drew her wrist out of his grip, standing up from where she was seated while putting on a composed look on her face.

"I’m just feeling tired, I just need to get some sleep. Have a goodnight." As she said this she made to walk away, keeping her own pain to herself but she was suddenly stopped by a hard grip holding her back.

She paused in her steps but refused to turn around and look at him, she was afraid her tears would fall and the emotions she was keeping inside would show if she did, that caused her to miss the quiet look of longing that appeared in his eyes as he seemed to grip her hand tighter in his.

"I want to tell you something."

Anne was suddenly alerted by his words. What did he want to talk to her about?

Though that curiosity arose, Anne felt a strange premonition that caused her to gently pull her hand away and he let her go, looking down at his empty hand where he’d just been holding her with a slight look of disappointment.

Would he tell her that he’d found someone else? Would he tell her that after their marriage was over, there was someone else who would take her place in his life? Actually that was wrong, did she ever have a place in his life?

The only place she carried was that of the surrogate carrying his child.

"It’s late, I can’t talk right now." Anne said dismissively before rushing away and out of the kitchen.

If she were to be fully honest she was scared, she was absolutely frightened...there was a possessiveness in her heart that she didn’t know how or when it began, she just knew that she wanted him to care about her in the very same way she cared about him, but what made seeing him with that woman hurt was the realization that he wasn’t hers, he never was and he never might be.

Anne ran up the stairs and went straight to her room, she opened the door went in and turned to shut the door when it was suddenly stopped by an outside force.

She hadn’t even realized that he’d been following right behind her until she wanted to shut the door and he stopped it with his palm. Eyes glowering at her with hints of displeasure.

He pushed the door open making her step backwards and entered her room.

"Did you think I would just let you leave when you looked like you absolutely despise the sight of me being anywhere around you?" He uttered with a rigidness to his tone as he stalked towards her but Anne didn’t move back remaining glued to the same spot as he closed the distance between them.

He couldn’t stand it, the way her eyes looked at him earlier he couldn’t stand it one bit. And he suddenly started feeling like every bond he’d shared with her lately had flown out the window in an instant and he didn’t like it.

Her eyes were evasive, and she was pulling away from him in a way that made invisible chains tighten around his heart as if it wanted to drain every blood out of him leaving him completely empty, he couldn’t stand it.

"I don’t know how many damn times you want me to tell you that you’re mine so why the hell do you always run from me?" He ground out harshly, his hand reaching forward to pull her closer by the shoulders with an abrupt force that she couldn’t resist and crushing her against his chest just like he’d longed to do since he returned to the manor.

His arms were circled around her body and suddenly being caught in his warm embrace after her heart had been in pain and scared a while ago, Anne didn’t know how to react.g
