Chapter 230: He Must Like You

Anne was taken aback, momentarily speechless. Once she composed herself, she asked, "What made you think I was his girlfriend?"

"Director Sterling acts different around you than with others, whenever you’re in his office it’s always a different vibe, I like going in and giving him the toughest news of the day immediately after you leave his office because he’s always in a good mood then, so I figured there must be a reason for that. He must be like that with you because he has feelings for you."

When Cynthia spoke, Anne’s body tensed up and her eyes widened in surprise, a trace of color showing on her face.

Even after several hours had passed and she had already gone back to the department to continue planning for the company imaging project which might be pushed back a little due to the talks of a newly appointed CEO who wasn’t who the company had originally planned, she still remained steadfast on her work, however multiple times she would be internally distracted by those words that rang in her mind.

’He must be like that with you because he has feelings for you...’

At the time, Cynthia had continued to ramble on and on but Anne wasn’t paying enough attention to understand what she was saying,

’I mean, I never thought director Sterling would like someone someday, well maybe I did and I admit I kinda had a crush on him when I started working with him but it immediately died out because director Sterling just never seemed to care about anyone, but you...he looks at you differently and anyone can tell he likes you.

Do you know, manager Hastings has a huge crush on him too, I can tell these things when I look once, she always used to come to his office and acted as if she was best of friends with director Sterling, she’s a nice person but director Sterling just doesn’t like her, I used to think if director Sterling would ever like someone, she would be the top candidate but I was dead wrong, if you aren’t truly his girlfriend, then he definitely likes you, but don’t take my word for it, I wouldn’t want to plant ideas that aren’t real, so tell me, are you really his girlfriend?’

Right now Anne couldn’t fully remember how exactly she had answered that question, she had probably answered negatively because in her daze she must have just subconsciously told the truth.

She indeed wasn’t his girlfriend, but did he really...?

"Manager Thompson?" Someone knocked on her office door and Anne quickly raised her head calling out for the person to come in.

Ashley smiled at her as she walked in, "There’s just been another assignment, we have been instructed to collaborate with the corporate events team to organize a public banquet for tomorrow night because the new CEO will be officially announced to the whole world. I came to discuss the themes with you and ask when to schedule the meeting with the manger of the corporate events team."

"Alright come sit, we’ll discuss that slowly." Anne wasn’t annoyed that she was given even more workload along with the project Clara and her team withdrew from, creative addition to her work like organizing a banquet was actually quite fun and refreshing to her even though it would be stressful. Grateful for the distraction that would take her mind off dwelling on things too much, Anne and Ashley discussed the upcoming event and set up a meeting with the manger of the corporate events team for eight PM later that night at a restaurant near the company because the other party said they wouldn’t be available for the meeting during work hours.

That evening Anne and Ashley headed to the restaurant around the time every one was heading home.

The restaurant was called Seven Days, it had a beautiful exterior and being in a high end location like the business district in Verizon, it had a professional yet warm appeal that offered a sophisticated appeal for all the workers who wanted to have a business meeting in what would feel like an official setting yet sharing a warm meal.

As Anne and Ashley stepped out of the company car, several cars could be seen parked in the expansive parking spot, Anne’s eyes had merely just glanced around casually, she didn’t expect to sight a familiar car.

A deep black Mustang, there could by so many of such cars, but what made this one stand out was it’s customized license plate that had the letters AS upon them.

It was Andrew’s car.

Anne quickly found her eyes running around searchingly.

Andrew was here?

"Are you looking for someone?" Ashley asked when she noticed how distracted Anne seemed.

Anne shook her head smilingly as she followed Ashley inside but her eyes subconsciously glanced back towards the car once more.

The restaurant’s interior had warm lights and a somewhat romantic atmosphere, they blended professionalism and romance really well for those who would like to come on a date or meetings.

They sat at their reserved table and several minutes later, the manager of the corporate events team walked in. She was a tall and strict looking woman who seemed to be in her early thirties, they shook hands making official introductions before they sat back down to commence the purpose of the meeting.

An hour passed in the discussion and the meeting was finally wrapped up. Anne and Ashley said their good-byes to the woman and they both also left the restaurant.

The company car that had brought them to the restaurant was a simple white car with no brand name but had an SE logo on it. Anne let out a long sigh after sitting in the car, her eyes staring out the window in a daze.

Maybe Andrew was having a meeting with someone inside the restaurant because his car was still there, perhaps it was because she was thinking about him, but someone of the exact same build as him walked out of the restaurant doors at that very moment.

Anne let her eyes linger thoughtlessly on the person for a moment, wide build, tall frame and elegantly styled deep black hair with very fair skin tone that... 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

No, it was him.

Anne quickly sat up looking in his direction and the company car started at this very moment.

He stopped, and a woman with long blonde hair and a perfectly enviable figure stepped out of the restaurant behind him, she looked up at him with a wide smile that one would only describe as enchanting. The air around him wasn’t as evasive as it usually was when he was around other people, he seemed relaxed and conversed with the woman amiably, their mouths moving in conversation but their words couldn’t be deciphered as the company car drove farther and farther away and the image of the two people faded from Anne’s view.

Anne finally sat back straight in her seat, her light brown eyes looking lost.

She couldn’t say why, but a deep firm sadness suddenly took root in her chest, choking her, tightening till she closed her eyes to try to soothe the pain.

Andrew Sterling liking her, or perhaps having some feelings for her...was she even worthy of him looking in her direction if he had the choice to pick from all the wonderful women in his high class world.

Anne wasn’t usually envious of other women or felt inferior, but in this moment she felt truly small and it hurt because it made her realize that dreaming he might feel something for her was wishful thinking.
