Chapter 145: It Was All Me!

’Very impressive anne.’ Clara thought suppressing the rising anger swelling inside her.

She had tried to make this whole thing happen carefully in a way that Anne wouldn’t be able to back herself up or wriggle out of the situation. Clara was never used to putting too much effort in dealing with people herself, this time however she’d gone as far as threatening Brian to get him to go to HR to report Anne. Then she had nudged Rebecca a little without destroying her pure image in the latter’s eyes, it was all so Anne would be fired from the company for good.

It seemed even this quick well thought out plan could be thwarted by Anne.

But Clara wouldn’t let that happen, because Anne had already crossed the line of cordiality from her.

People were usually of two kinds in Clara’s life. The kind of people she would take as friends but beneath that they would be so in awe of her, respect her so much that they would do whatever she wanted them to do.

Or the kind of people she genuinely wanted to have around, people in power that could build her up and scale her higher.

If someone couldn’t be one or the other in her life, then she would do her absolute best to shove them far away from being anywhere around her.

The steps to making Anne one of her minions had begun from the moment Anne had started working at the company, she had taken her as a friend, making her believe they were equals, but it had all gone wrong when Anne turned out to be smarter than Clara had given her credit for.

She actually targeted the Sterlings, and it wasn’t a new thing because there had been others before her, but those ones hadn’t been able to succeed in their plans, Anne however was different and people like Anne were very dangerous for Clara to keep around.

Rebecca stupidly looked intimidated and scared by Anne’s threat of sending her to the police if she didn’t reveal who put her up to doing what she just did.

And like typical Rebecca, she actually glanced fearfully towards Clara as If contemplating if she should betray her or not.

Anne seemed to follow her gaze and their gazes collided.

Clara didn’t bother putting up a front for Anne anymore, she met Anne’s gaze with the genuine amount of disdain she felt towards her right from the start.

Anne was just a small fry in her eyes, Clara wasn’t only from a wealthy family, but they had power and connections in the city. Even if Anne came to figure out that Clara was her enemy, what power did she have to fight her?

It would be in Anne’s best interests to accept defeat and calmly walk away, because Clara had no intentions of sparing her at all.

"Go on Rebecca, say it out loud for everyone to hear." Anne spoke never breaking her gaze from Clara’s. "Tell everyone who made you come here to frame me."

Rebecca gulped fearfully as she looked at Clara.

No matter how kind and sweet Clara appeared to be, Rebecca knew somewhere inside she could be very ruthless, it was the ruthlessness that made Rebecca genuinely fear her.

She was at a loss.

She couldn’t betray Clara to save her own skin, not because she wasn’t selfish enough to do it but because she was scared of Clara’s retaliation, at the same time if she continued with Clara’s plan to ruin Anne and get her fired, Anne would retaliate as well by reporting her and Randy to the police.

Rebecca couldn’t continue with what she was doing.

She’d always known she wasn’t the smartest person, even the job she currently had, she wouldn’t be working here if it wasn’t for Clara.

What should she do?

"Say it Rebecca, who made you do this?" Anne prompted and Rebecca seemed to have suddenly snapped.

"It was all me!" She yelled out loudly in frustration as if she could no longer take in the pressure.

Anne’s surprised eyes suddenly whipped back to Rebecca.

Anne clearly knew that Rebecca would be pressured when she used that video to press her into submission, but the kind of confession Anne expected wasn’t the one Rebecca gave.

Rebecca raised her chin up high as if accepting whatever consequences would come of her taking the blame.

"I’ve never liked you Anne, so I conspired with Brian to put this on you just to get you fired." Rebecca’s voice shook as she spoke.

Anne couldn’t believe she would take the fall for Clara.

She now realized how big of a master manipulator Clara was.

She fooled people into believing she was a sweet and pure person, comparable to an angel. She was nothing like that, behind the mask of purity was a she-devil who used people, pushed them around for her own selfish motives and reaped the benefits while never taking a single blame for something she’d done.

This kind of person... Anne could almost not believe someone like her existed. But the truth was bare in front of her eyes and Anne would never lie to herself or put a mask to hide the reality of someone’s true character once she’d figured them out.

Anne knew she couldn’t just accuse Clara without any single thing to back up that accusation, she had relied on Rebecca to do it and free herself. Rebecca wasn’t the bad guy here, she was just being played by someone very skilled in that field.

"Are you absolutely certain you did this on your own Rebecca? If someone put you up to it, say it." Anne urge her again.

Clara should be exposed to everyone for the faker she truly was.

"I already told you I did it, right? Now delete that video and don’t you dare threaten me with it again."

Brian seeing the situation come to this point began to sweat. He hadn’t wanted to be here if it weren’t for...

He looked to Clara and the latter gave him a sharp glance moving her head in a motion that indicated he scram otherwise he would get involved in the mess Rebecca was making.

Clara wanted to slap sense into Rebecca’s face. How was she so easy to break?

If she wasn’t so damn stupid, she would easily wriggle out of Anne’s little trap.

Just as Brian was trying to make his swift escape, someone arrived at the department.

A stern looking middle aged man.

David Hales, the manager of HR.

The man stopped at the entrance upon seeing Stella standing there, he immediately beamed fawningly.

"Miss Langton, you’re here?"

Stella’s red painted lips lifted in a smile.

"I find this particular department in the company quite interesting, a juicy little situation seems to be going on here, so I waited to take a look." Stella’s voice was deep and mature, but it carried a quiet sultry air of a woman very confident in herself.

Mr Hales’ face turned red in embarrassment.

He had already been informed of what to expect coming to this department. It was a little case of misconduct and disrespect between their staff which he was here to resolve by dismissing the woman who started it. He didn’t want the new executive in the company to be turned off and change her opinion of their company because of this whole mess when they’ve always maintained a perfect and clean reputation for the longest time.

"I’m sure Mr Hales, and from watching I think I can assist you in telling who the guilty party in this whole thing is."

"Certainly Miss Langton, your opinion would be highly appreciated." Mr Hales was more than happy to impress an executive so he fawningly agreed.

Stella raised a perfectly manicured finger to point at Rebecca.

"That one, if the likes of her continues working here, the reputation of this company will be mistaken by the outside world."

Stella’s interference was just to aid the lovely brown haired girl.

She had noticed how Anne seemed to insist someone put Rebecca to it. Now at the risk of losing her job, Rebecca would certainly point out the person who made her do this.
