Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 128: In Love Or Not
Anne had gone on to spend a long time creating a romantic sounding story between her and the masked person, she actually mixed the truth in there somewhere. Two truths and a lie, two truths and a lie and a believable story was formed.
Anne felt extremely guilty for lying to her friend, the feeling suffocated her but she knew she had no choice. In the past, Anne and Jasmine would tell each other everything, but in order not to hurt the other person, sometimes one of them would tell a lie. Just like Jasmine had pulled away from their friendship back then just so Anne wouldn’t be a part of the messiness about to occur in her life.
Anne was doing the exact same thing now, shielding her friend from feeling heartache for her, shielding her friend from trying to save her because there was no running from this.
Swallowing the guilt, Anne made sure to put as much light in her eyes as she could, maintain as big of a smile as she could because one little crack and Jasmine would figure out everything.
Jasmine’s expression showed clearly throughout the course of the story Anne was telling her. Confusion, slight relief, a bit skeptical and then relief again.
Love!
Her Anne had fallen in love?
No one knew better than Jasmine that love was one of the things Anne wanted the most in the world.
The thought that she’d finally found it gave Jasmine a lot of relief, but then... marriage?
It was too soon, too fast. It made her feel a bit skeptical.
Even though Anne had explained that her...fiance, which Jasmine didn’t see a ring anywhere on Anne’s finger but she ignored that part, didn’t want their child to be born out of wedlock, he wanted them to have a complete family.
The man Jasmine pictured through Anne’s description sounded too good to be true, so Jasmine made one request.
She wanted to meet him.
As Anne’s one and only best friend it was her job to protect her and make sure she didn’t fall into something that would end up hurting her. Some men these days couldn’t be trusted.
Jasmine wanted to be truly certain that Anne was indeed in love and that the man...whoever he was loved her back, only then would she be at peace.
Now the next day standing at the entrance of this restaurant, Jasmine’s doubts seemed to suddenly melt away.
The man was handsome but that hadn’t been the only thing that made Jasmine stop in her tracks, it was that gaze...
It was a kind of enchanted gaze, a kind one would only see on the face of a man whose heart and soul beats only for that person, the one person they can’t tear their gaze away from.
No man looks at a woman like that unless she was someone who stole his heart.
So what Anne said had been true... she’d fallen in love.
As they strode over to the table, the man stood at his full intimidating height making Jasmine glance up at him. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Every part of the man screamed dominance, as if it would be hard to breathe around him.
He pulled out a chair for Anne, then went to sit in his chair.
The so called couple didn’t seem to interact enough to match the kind of love story Jasmine knew Anne was crazy about, the kind of love story Anne told her about.
He hadn’t kissed or hugged her, that was a detail Jasmine didn’t miss but then again maybe he was shy...
Looking at the man again Jasmine instantly realized that wouldn’t be the case, the man looked everything but a shy type of person, instead he looked like a man who would out outrightly snatch what he wants whenever he wants it.
Maybe he just wasn’t the kissing or hugging type but that was impossible, especially for someone who was in love.
A man in love would eagerly kiss his woman and hold her close, but the look in the man’s eyes earlier, it couldn’t be mistaken, that was because a gaze like that couldn’t be faked.
Jasmine’s eyes narrowed suspiciously. Even before anyone said anything she began to feel like something was absolutely fishy about this couple. She just wanted her friend to be happy, and if she found one wrong thing about this relationship she absolutely wouldn’t let Anne stay even if she had to kidnap her friend and apologize later, she would definitely do it.
Jasmine discreetly glanced at her friend, a deep red color painted her cheeks and it wasn’t the light dust of makeup she’d applied. A slightly warm smile showed on Jasmine’s face.
Silly Anne, was she blushing under his gaze? It looked cute to see and it actually made Jasmine relax a tiny fraction of her suspicion but the intimidating man sitting at the table with them still had a presence that made it difficult for one to fully relax around him.
What if her friend was being strung along?
Jasmine knew how naive Anne could be sometimes, what if this man didn’t truly fall in love with her and just wanted to keep her for the baby?
Anne would end up having to live a miserable married life and that was surely not something Anne wanted, she wanted love and romance and Jasmine couldn’t even bear the thought of her friend enduring a painful loveless marriage, even worse a one sided love with her spouse, so Jasmine set determinedly to find out before this night was over if this man truly loved Anne of not.
Jasmine sent a discreet glance over to the man. His eyes hadn’t settled once on Jasmine since they came here, his gaze was fixed on Anne which made Jasmine give him one browny point, but then again Anne was beautiful, what man wouldn’t be lost in a daze seeing her looking like this?
Jasmine wouldn’t let her friend settle for a man who merely fancied her physically, romance was the biggest requirement, and so far the man hadn’t shown a thing to tick off that box.
As if feeling her gaze on him, the man’s eyes finally broke way from Anne lightly shifting over to her.
Subconsciously, Jasmine felt as if her breathing source had been cut off under the man’s unmistakable strict look.
It was as if the warmth had melted immediately his gaze moved away from Anne replaced by a chilly glacier.
