Chapter 242: Chapter 242: Ferrero Rocher

Spencer smirked and said with a weird kind of confidence, "They will. Trust me."

Aurora stared at him, stunned. "How can you be so sure?"

Spencer shrugged. "It’s just... something between me and your parents."

Aurora squinted at him suspiciously. "Weird. But okay. Even if they do let you stay, there’s still one big problem."

"What?"

"My brothers," she said flatly.

Spencer froze.

Yep. She was right.

Her brothers were like grizzly bears when it came to her. Big. Loud. Protective. And scary.

Spencer groaned and dropped his face into the side of her neck.

She gasped a little, his warm breath brushing her skin.

He stayed like that, his voice muffled against her. "This is so wrong," he mumbled. "Why is it so hard to stay away from you? I just... I want you here. With me. Just for a little longer."

Aurora’s heart twisted. She could feel how much he meant it. He wasn’t just being clingy. He was scared. He didn’t want to be alone again.

She looked down at his head, still buried in her neck, and let out a soft sigh.

"Okay," she whispered. "I’ll stay."

Spencer lifted his head so fast he almost bumped her chin. "Really?"

Aurora nodded. "Yeah. But just for a bit. And only until—"

Ding dong.

They both froze.

The doorbell rang again.

Aurora’s eyes widened before she remembered something and relaxed. Spencer’s arms tensed around her.

Spencer turned his head toward the door, eyes narrowing. "Who would be here at this time?" he asked.

He was about to stand up and check, but Aurora gently grabbed his arm. "Wait," she said. "It’s okay. I’ll go see."

Spencer frowned, shaking his head. "No way. What if it’s not safe?"

Aurora smiled a little. "Don’t worry. I’m the one who ordered something. It’s probably that."

Spencer blinked. "You ordered something?"

She nodded. "Yeah. Just wait, okay?"

Spencer still looked unsure, but he moved out of the way. Aurora walked quickly to the door, unlocked it, and opened it just a crack.

Outside stood a delivery man holding a brown box with a sticker on top. Aurora smiled politely, took the package, thanked him, and quickly closed and locked the door again.

She came back inside, hugging the box to her chest.

Spencer raised an eyebrow. "What is that?"

Aurora walked over and handed the box to him. "Open it."

Spencer looked at the box, still confused. He slowly opened the flaps and froze.

Inside was a box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates.

He stared at it for a few seconds, then looked up at her with a strange expression in his eyes. It wasn’t happy, not really. It looked soft... and a little sad.

"Why’d you give me this?" he asked quietly, almost like he was scared to know.

Aurora smiled. "I found out you like Ferrero Rocher. So I got them for you."

Spencer blinked. He looked back down at the shiny gold box, and a lump formed in his throat.

He did like Ferrero Rocher.

But what Aurora didn’t know... was that he liked it because of Aurora.

[Flashback — a few years ago]

The air was heavy and quiet.

Spencer, ten or so, sat on the wooden stairs outside his house. His head was resting in his hands. His shoulders were slouched. His face looked pale and kind of lifeless.

It was easy to tell—he was in a bad mood.

He didn’t even flinch when he heard the front gate open and close. Light footsteps padded across the path.

"Spencer?" a small voice called.

He didn’t answer.

The girl got closer.

Aurora peeked around the corner. Her red hair bounced as she moved. She spotted Spencer sitting there and walked over carefully.

"What’s wrong?" she asked gently, sitting beside him.

Spencer kept looking down at the steps. "I don’t want to stay in this house," he mumbled. "Everything sucks. I feel... really sad."

Aurora blinked. Her eyebrows scrunched. Then, with a tiny grin, she said, "Wanna elope with me?"

Spencer chuckled weakly. "I can’t. Not yet. I don’t even have money."

Aurora pouted. "Man... that stinks."

She sat there for a second, then perked up. "Okay! Then I’ll cheer you up!"

She began making the lamest jokes.

"Why did the cat sit on the computer? Because it wanted to keep an eye on the mouse!"

No smile.

"Why don’t eggs tell jokes? ’Cause they’d crack each other up!"

Still nothing.

Aurora sighed. Then she thought of something.

Whenever she was sad, her dad always gave her chocolate. Maybe... maybe that would work for Spencer too?

She glanced at him again. He came from a rich family. He probably ate all kinds of fancy sweets. Just any chocolate wouldn’t work.

Then she remembered something important.

At home, in her drawer, was a shiny golden ball of Ferrero Rocher. Her parents had given it to her last week as a special treat. She hadn’t eaten it yet.

Her eyes lit up.

"I’ll be back in a few minutes, okay?" she said quickly, standing up.

Spencer looked up, confused. "Wait, where—?" freёweɓnovel_com

But Aurora was already jogging away. Her red hair swayed behind her like a flag. Spencer watched her disappear around the corner. He didn’t say anything.

For a second, he thought maybe... maybe she left because of how gloomy he looked. Maybe he was too much.

His throat tightened. He almost wanted to cry. But he held it in and stared at the ground.

Ten minutes later—

"Ack... finally..."

Aurora came running back, cheeks flushed and panting a little. She held something shiny in her hands.

Spencer looked up in surprise.

"You came back," he whispered.

Aurora walked up and handed him the small gold-wrapped box.

Spencer took it, blinking in confusion. "What’s this?"

Aurora grinned. "It’s for you. I brought it to make you feel better."

Spencer stared. "For me?"

"Yep! It’s Ferrero Rocher. The fanciest chocolate I know! I figured, you’ve probably had all kinds of rich people chocolates, but this one’s special."

Spencer slowly peeled back the wrapper.

He had Ferrero Rocher at home. It wasn’t rare for him. It was just one of many types in his house.

But seeing Aurora give it to him... seeing how red her face was, how out of breath she was from running to get it...

It made his chest feel tight.

He took a bite. The crunchy shell cracked softly, and the creamy filling melted in his mouth.

It tasted better than it ever had.

He looked at Aurora. "Want a bite?"

Aurora blinked. "Me? No, I gave it to you."

"Come on. You gotta try it. It’s really good."

She hesitated.

Then, very carefully, she leaned forward and took a bite from the side he hadn’t touched.

Her eyes lit up. "Whoa. That’s... that’s the best chocolate I’ve ever had!"

Spencer smiled.

Not because of the chocolate.

But because she was there.

Because someone actually cared.

And that was the day Ferrero Rocher became his favorite.

Not because it was fancy.

But because Aurora gave it to him when he needed it most.

Sometimes what humans crave is memories, so they link it with an object and the object becomes their favorite.

Back in the present—

Spencer held the golden box of Ferrero Rocher in both hands, staring at it like it was made of glass. Then, very softly, he whispered, "Thank you."

Aurora’s eyes lit up. She almost smiled too big. "You’re welcome!" she said quickly, like she’d been waiting her whole life to hear those words from him. In her head, she was already thinking, Finally! Olivia gave good advice for once.

Spencer kept looking at the chocolates. His eyes looked a little shiny. "I’ll save it for when I’m sad," he mumbled.

Aurora blinked. "Huh? Why? It’s just Ferrero Rocher. It’s not that rare. You can get it in any store."

Then her eyes narrowed like she was trying to solve a mystery. "Wait... Do you not have money?"

Before Spencer could even open his mouth, she gasped and pulled out her phone.

"Say no more," she declared dramatically.

Ping!

Spencer’s phone vibrated.

He looked at it. His mouth dropped open.

$1,000,000 had just been transferred to his account.

"What the—Aurora!" Spencer stared at her, completely speechless.

Aurora tilted her head proudly. "Spend it however you like. Buy all the Ferrero Rocher in the world if you want. Heck, buy a whole chocolate store."

Spencer blinked again, completely stunned. He had just been feeling all soft and emotional two minutes ago—and now... she gave him a million dollars.

He ran his hand down his face.

"This girl..." he muttered under his breath, "Why can’t she just let me have a moment?!"

Still, a small smile tugged at his lips.

He looked at her, shaking his head like he couldn’t believe her. "You know what? Since you sent me so much money, I think I owe you something."

Aurora raised an eyebrow. "Oh?" she said playfully. "I do want some services."

Spencer smirked. "Let me make you something to eat. You rushed here. I bet you didn’t eat dinner."
