Chapter 228: Chapter 228: Lucas To Rescue
Adriana, on the other hand, felt her heart sinking as she listened to him.
"No," she finally said, shaking her head, her voice wavering but firm. "I don’t want to be with you, Henry."
Her words cut through the atmosphere like a blade, and the crowd seemed to collectively gasp in disbelief.
One voice from the crowd suddenly rose above the others, harsh and accusing. "Ungrateful!" they shouted. "She’s so ungrateful! Henry’s giving her a second chance, and she won’t even take it? What’s wrong with her?"
Others joined in, their voices growing louder, as if the judgment had a life of its own. "She’s just like cow dung," someone else sneered. "Would rather choose dirt than gold."
Adriana’s stomach twisted, the words stinging like a slap to the face.
"Shut up! You are all spouting nonsense! I..."
"Look at her!" a girl shouted, pointing at Adriana. "She’s turning down someone who cares about her. She’s just too proud to admit she made a mistake."
Before she could even react, a couple of people in the crowd moved forward, their hands grabbing her arms, holding her in place.
"Henry, just kiss her and claim her!" one of them urged, their voice full of excitement.
"Show everyone you’re not just her boyfriend, but her man."
Henry looked hesitant for a moment, but the pressure from the crowd made him firm. He turned to Adriana, his face softening again.
"No one else will accept you, Adriana," he murmured, almost tenderly.
"I’m the only one who’s willing to forgive you, to accept you. You’ve hurt me, but I’m ready to move past that. Just give me a chance."
Adriana’s heart pounded in her chest. She could feel the hands on her, holding her still, and the crowd’s judgmental stares.
Henry moved closer, his face almost inches from hers, his lips parted as if he were about to kiss her.
The moment he moved toward her, something inside Adriana snapped.
Her mind, already fragile from the emotional onslaught, erupted in a storm of panic. Her hands shook violently, and her chest constricted as if she couldn’t breathe.
The haunting memories of her past flooded back with brutal intensity, and she felt a surge of desperation to escape.
"No!" she shouted, her voice cracking.
"Please, Henry, don’t!" Her body jerked back, but the people holding her didn’t let go.
"Let me go! Please, let me go!" she begged, her voice growing frantic.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she struggled, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
"Please, no," she sobbed, pushing against the hands that held her down. "I can’t... I can’t do this! Please, stop!"
Before Henry could take another step toward Adriana, the sound of a sharp slap echoed through the air, followed by a grunt as Henry was suddenly shoved violently to the side.
His body staggered back, and he fell to the ground with an audible thud.
The crowd went silent, stunned by the sudden interruption. All eyes turned to the figure who had appeared out of nowhere.
Adriana’s heart skipped a beat as her gaze locked onto him. He was a stranger, but there was something about him that made her breath catch in her throat.
His presence was commanding, the kind of raw power that made the air feel heavier, almost as if the world around them held its breath.
He was tall, his features sharp and striking, his dark eyes were intense, focused only on Henry for the moment.
"How dare you touch someone I want to protect you, b*stard." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Henry slowly picked himself up from the ground, his eyes wide with disbelief, his pride wounded.
"Who the hell are you?" he barked, his voice laced with irritation and confusion.
He looked from Adriana to the mysterious man who had appeared out of nowhere, feeling a strange sense of fear creeping up his spine.
The man’s gaze shifted to the people who had been holding Adriana.
Without a word, his lips parted slightly, and he growled—low and menacing, like a beast ready to strike.
"Leave her," he demanded, his voice cutting through the tension like a blade. "Now."
The crowd seemed to freeze, some of them visibly flinching from the raw anger in his voice.
Adriana watched as the people who had been gripping her arms let go one by one, almost as if they were compelled to obey his command.
The fear in their eyes was palpable, and they hesitated before backing away, their eyes shifting nervously from him to Adriana.
Adriana, feeling the grip on her loosen, stumbled slightly as her legs gave way, her vision blurring with the chaos in her mind.
She felt like the ground was shifting beneath her feet, her body trembling from the anxiety that was choking her.
Before she could fall, the man’s strong arms caught her, pulling her close to his chest.
"Hey, you’re okay," he murmured, his voice now gentler, though still firm. "I’ve got you. You’re safe now."
Adriana’s heart was racing, and she froze in his embrace.
The panic that had been building up inside her exploded in a flash of terror, and she jerked back, her eyes wide with fear.
"No!" she cried out, her voice shaking uncontrollably.
"Please, don’t touch me!" She pushed away from him with trembling hands, her breath coming in short, ragged gasps.
The man paused, his brow furrowing slightly at her response, but he didn’t push. Instead, he held his ground, his hands raised in a gesture of calm.
"I’m not going to hurt you," he said softly, his voice steady despite the situation. "I just want to help. Please, let me."
Just as he was about to bend down and check on her, a gust of wind flashed past him and landed right besided Adriana,
"Ari? Are you okay?"
Adriana on the other hand was too taken aback. However compared to the man who had rescued she didn’t resist the hand of man who held her now.
After all, it was her brother Lucas.
Lucas hugged Adriana and patted her head,
"Shh. Its okay. I am here. Don’t panic. Ari. Calm down. I am here!"
Adriana immeidately hugged Lucas and buried her face his chest, she sobbed and muttered,
"Don’t want... them to touch... please... Lucas... send them away."
"I will. I will." Lucas assured her, his tone was filled with warmth. To others he looked like a man with limitless paitence.
However the moment he turned to look at crowd, his eyes became colder than ice.
"Who the f*ck are you guys?"
His angry roar, made the crowd flinch for a moment, while the man whohad rescued Adriana before narrowed his eyes.
"Do you even know what type of experience she has went through? Those are people in the photos are her molestor, you damn idiots."
The crowd stood in stunned silence as Lucas’s words hit them like a thunderclap.
"Impossible!" one of them gasped, shaking their head. "That can’t be true. You’re lying!"
"Yeah, I’ve never seen her in any kind of situation like that!" another voice shouted in confusion.
But Lucas didn’t flinch. He wasn’t backing down. His expression darkened, and his voice became a low, menacing growl as he addressed the crowd.
"You want proof?" he snapped. "I’ve got the report right here. You want me to show it to you? The police report? I’m sure it’ll make all your doubts disappear."
His words rang out with such authority that the crowd hesitated, unsure of how to respond. The fact that he mentioned an official police report made it clear that he wasn’t just bluffing.
Henry seeing that everything was getting out of hand decided to step in.
"This is ridiculous!" he said in a soft voice. "Lucas, you don’t need to lie just to protect your sister. She’s been exposed—there’s no need to go this far to cover it up!"
The words hit like a slap in the face. Lucas’s entire body stiffened at the accusation.
His jaw tightened, and the fire in his eyes ignited. For a moment, he looked like he was about to explode.
His hands clenched into fists, and his breathing quickened as the rage built inside him.
"I’m not lying," Lucas growled, his voice low but threatening.
"And you’d better watch your mouth, Henry. You don’t know the half of it." His eyes locked onto Henry with a glare that could freeze fire.
But just as Henry was about to say something else, a sharp crack echoed through the tense air.
Before anyone could react, the mysterious man who had intervened earlier, Adriana’s savior, moved with lightning speed. In one smooth motion, he stepped forward and delivered a punch that landed squarely on Henry’s jaw.
The sound of the punch reverberated, and Henry stumbled backward, his face contorting in shock and pain.
He gripped his jaw, stumbling to regain his balance as his eyes widened with disbelief.
"You don’t know a thing about what’s going on here," the man said coldly, his voice as hard as stone. "And you have no right to belittle her."
