Chapter 187: New Battle Clone?

"Did you tap into its heartbeat?" He asked.

"Yes..." JJ said, "It’s heartbeat is kinda annoying... how can you stand listening to that bt-bt-bt sound all the time?"

"You’ll get used to it," He chuckled, "The first time I heard Gutty’s heartbeat, it nearly made me go insane. I felt like my head was exploding, but... you’re doing well. There are like fifty animals around you, in the containers, and you don’t seem overwhelmed."

"No, those heartbeats don’t bother me," JJ added, "It’s this creature... this Compy is what’s bothering me."

"Well, you’re basically gripping its heart with your powers," He added, "You’re supposed to hear it better."

Jimmy then continued guiding JJ through the rest of the process. It was a unique experience. The more he spoke to him, the less weirded out he felt about this cloning business. He was basically talking to a clone of himself, but bit by bit, he stopped seeing JJ as his own clone, and saw him as an entirely different human being.

JJ had full control of the clone’s body, and sure, he had adapted portions of Jimmy’s personality, but that was where the similarities ended. JJ was essentially like an old spirit who had been given a second chance at life.

"Mush its brain," He guided, "Don’t worry about making mistakes, we have an endless supply of Compies."

"I’m mushing it... I’m mushing..." JJ mumbled, with his eyes closed, picturing the Compy clone’s brain. "What am I supposed to do with it? Do you need it to bite, or?" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"It already knows how to do that," He said, "Wait, actually, it needs to follow some very specific rules, so I’ll guide you step by step. We can’t have our clones go rogue."

In about ten minutes, JJ managed to shape the clone’s brain to Jimmy’s liking. He made it loyal to the tribe, to the people, and it was basically ’programmed’ to protect the tribesfolk even at the expense of its own life. This was the most important rule of all.

Secondly, it could not fight with other tamed dinosaurs, be it pets or clones. It could not attack clones of different species either.

"We can’t have them tear each other apart," Jimmy added.

Apart from its absolute loyalty towards Jimmy, its master, the clone was also taught to remember the attack command. Be it on the flatlands or rocky mountains, the clapping of Jimmy’s hands, followed by a rigorous point towards the enemy, was supposed to tell the Compy clone to attack on command. Without this addition to its new brain, the clone, or the following clones would be useless.

"Okay, looks like you got the hang of it." He patted JJ’s back, and then freed the clone after pushing a couple of buttons. "Are you ready for your next clone? This one shouldn’t take you as long to tame."

"Yup," JJ nodded, "Keep them coming. I can help you as long as I get to keep half of my mana."

Jimmy filled the container with liquid, and materialized another clone for him. It was nice to have an assistant in the lab who could actually help, or tame clones just like he did. Mika was great at keeping him company, for example, but other than yelling at the clones now and again, she wasn’t of much help.

"God damn... I know it’s unethical, but in case of an emergency, I wouldn’t mind cloning myself a few more times." He expressed, "Imagine how many clones I can pop out of here if I had twenty Jimmy’s doing the taming."

"You’d make hundreds of clones," JJ added, "But you’ll also have twenty Jimmy’s who’d be just as convinced as you that they’re the one true Jimmy. It’s messy, you know that."

"I do..." He sighed, "My idea was to lobotomize them all, and dematerialize them afterwards, but as I said, that’s unethical."

"It is," JJ nodded.

Anyway, after he led the first, five-foot tall, jacked up Compy clone to the tunnel past the automatic door, he got back to work.

It would be pointless for him to wait his turn at container twenty-one, where the Compy DNA was, since JJ was already taming his next clone, so he browsed the rest of the containers, looking for a badass creature to tame.

He felt queasy about subjecting potentially intelligent aliens to his cloning efforts, but he needed to get creative. The last army that set foot in the grasslands tore through his clones far quicker than he wanted them to, so he needed an edge, a species that would overwhelm his enemies in the next battle, and hopefully, demoralize any other tribe Chief in the future who would still want to invade the grasslands.

"They wanted my head..." He mumbled, "Gotta show them how big of a mistake that was."

Other than the alien apes that he was definitely going to clone later on, Jimmy had the opportunity to tame a third species, because today he had some mana to spare. He wanted to make it count.

"A snake... hmm..." He mumbled, looking at container number fifteen.

The snake he was looking at was alien without a doubt. More of an alien Boa, really. It was curled up in the container, so its exact size wasn’t easy to estimate, but it had to be at least twenty feet long!

"I like that," He smiled, "I like it a lot."

After he tapped into its heartbeat and scanned the rest of its body, he discovered that even in its home planet, it was considered a river snake. Thanks to its size, it could hold its breath underwater for a full hour, which gave him a great idea.

"They’re definitely not quick on their feet enough to bring into battle, not good enough to massacre a bunch of meat-heads like I wanted to... they don’t have feet at all, but what if I drop them in the river? The river heads towards the west hills anyway." He plotted, "I can terrorize those stupid motherfuckers from within... should keep them busy for a while. Five of these fuckers could eat twenty-thirty people at least, far before they set foot on the grasslands."
