Chapter 47 -47: Checking for Omissions and Filling Gaps

“Washbasin, squat toilet, bathtub, stove…

Tsk…

There’s even a fireplace.”

Ronan stood in the center of the room, surveying his new home, curiously sticking his head into the dusty, cobweb-filled fireplace to take a closer look.

“Winter is coming soon; it will come in handy then.”

Ronan sat down at the only table in the room, casually picking up the old copper kettle on it and giving it a shake before putting it back down.

All in all, Ronan was quite satisfied with his “new home.”

The room wasn’t big, but it was more spacious than the treehouse he used to live in, and although the furniture was old, it had everything that was needed.

An important point was that there was a toilet in the house, so he would never have to empty the urine bucket again.

Finding such a livable house on Water Drop Street, known as the “Slums” of the town, wasn’t easy.

This house was among the best in the surrounding area, and of course, the rent was nearly half as much as that of the average house.

The glass oil lamp emitted a dim, yellow light as Ronan sat at the table, propping his chin with one hand, the other hand tapping on the table surface without intent as if he was a bored man zoning out, unsure of what to do with himself.

Suddenly, the sound of his fingers tapping stopped, and Ronan’s eyes refocused as he murmured softly: “Hoddam Wizard College…”

He couldn’t tell if it was the regret of the original body having dropped out of Hoddam or his own past life experience of being a student for over a decade that gave him an inexplicable obsession with “enrolling in school.”

As a result, when he learned during the day that the college had stopped enrolling…

he almost lost his composure.

But now, looking back, his main purpose for wanting to further his studies at the academy was merely to inherit the key to becoming an Official Wizard.

Putting that aside…

it’s not like he must enter the college right away.

“The primary task at the Apprentice level is to accumulate spiritual power; I’m still a long way from qualifying to attack the realm of an Official Wizard.

Whether I can enter now doesn’t really matter…

With all this dissatisfaction and agitation…”

Ronan straightened up, staring at the glass oil lamp before him and talking to himself: “I might as well think more about how to survive better in this crisis of the Black Witch invasion; when I reach Level 8, Level 9 Wizard Apprentice, things might take a new turn…”

Thinking this, Ronan couldn’t help but reflect on his previous battles.

These battles for rescue and escape seemed smooth and impressive, but in reality, they revealed serious issues.

The main one was—

“A serious lack of control skills!”

Ronan frowned.

He had almost no Control Skills, and his several victories over the Black Robes relied on the sheer kill power of Energy Missile and the element of surprise in his timing.

If faced with stationary output opponents, Ronan’s battle tactics might still be effective.

However, facing nimble and alert enemies capable of moving unpredictably, like Two-headed Demon Lizards, the weakness of lacking effective control measures would be immediately exposed—the Energy Missiles would miss several times in a row, and in the end, the Two-headed Demon Lizard got away…

“Any well-built combat system requires control skills as an indispensable part—”

“To effectively restrain the opponent’s actions is the only way to ensure the hit rate of Energy Missile—”

“And the Spells that have a similar effect…”

Ronan thought about it, perhaps only the magic of the ice and lightning elements suited him.

The former usually carries effects like freezing and slowing, while the latter inherently has paralyzing and stiffening effects.

Such spells are relatively common in Hoddam Wizarding Land and are easier to obtain.

“Maybe it’s time to take a stroll in the market, and see…

if I can buy another suitable piece of protective magic item.”

During the battle with the Advanced Apprentice in a black robe, Ronan felt for the first time the importance of protective magic items.

Had it not been for the magic ring with dual [Protection] runes he carried, which he activated in a critical moment, he would have likely fallen in hatred during the first round of being surrounded by the Black Robed Wizard’s Corpse Explosion Spell and the Sword and Shield Skeleton Servants, not to mention the subsequent promotion to [Energy Missile] Master Level and unlocking the series of events in the Extraordinary Magic Realm.

“Such life-saving items can never be too abundant…

especially in the current situation…”

Ronan rubbed his chin, even considering whether he should specialize in a Zero Rank Defense Magic.

But then he thought again and decided against it, as there really weren’t many people who learned defense spells at the Apprentice level because Zero Rank defensive spells are generally fragile, unable to withstand a couple of hits from spells of the same level before needing renewal.

Rather than passively taking hits and consuming the already limited spiritual power, it would be more direct to think about how to kill the opponent faster and end the battle.

“Offense, control, defense…

and then there are recovery and buff aspects.”

In battles between Wizards, in-situ recovery is quite important.

Especially during the Wizard Apprentice stage when spiritual power is already scarce.

“Spiritual Recovery Potion, Healing Potion, Detoxification Potion, Stamina Potion…”

Ronan thought of a bunch of potions that might come in handy, all based on summaries from several battles.

As for in-situ buff methods, the only thing Ronan could think of for now was the Body Refining Method he practiced regularly.

Having strong physical fitness is beneficial, significantly increasing fault tolerance in battle, and Ronan felt that at least at the Apprentice stage, this was true.

Many Wizards look down on Body Forging, unwilling to waste time on it, feeling that it would be better to meditate or do witchcraft research with that effort.

Or they feel that Body Forging does not fit the noble and exalted status of a Wizard, and that it is an activity only suited for the banal Knights who serve as followers of Wizards.

He, however, had no such pretensions or concerns.

“Money, money!” fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

In the end, Ronan found that no matter which aspect of planning, one couldn’t avoid a key thing—Magic Stones!

Potions require Magic Stones, buying spells requires Magic Stones, obtaining magical tools requires Magic Stones…

even Body Forging requires Magic Stones to purchase Magic Beast Meat for cultivation!

If you have Magic Stones, all is good; without them…

then all plans are but empty talk.

“Take it slow…

what’s meant to be will eventually be…”

Ronan comforted himself, reached out to brighten the oil lamp before him, and then took out three Waist Storage Bags.

The fastest way to get wealthy at the moment was to open these three “safes.”

….

Dawn breaks, a sleepless night.

Ronan yawned as he pushed open the door and stepped out of the house, casually patting his Magic Robe to activate the engraved [Clean] rune.

The stale odor from being cooped up in the cabin all night vanished without a trace, leaving him feeling fresh and cool.

However, after a few battles, this originally brand-new robe was now somewhat tattered, with several cuts here and there, and Ronan was reluctant to replace it.

“Do Wizards hate Body Forging and close combat because it’s too damaging to their Magic Robes?”

Ronan whimsically thought to himself, chanting a spell under his breath and casually throwing out an [Ice Ball Skill] onto the ground in front of him.
